Born in Cork, Ireland on January 21, 1923, he earned a B.A. Degree
in Philosophy in 1944 from University College Cork. He received
his first Master's Degree from the Catholic University in Washington,
D.C. and later, did further post-graduate work at Boston College.
It was there he earned his second Master's of Arts Degree in
1952. He was ordained as Society of Missionaries to Africa priest
on June 8, 1948 at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception
in Washington, D.C. As a member of Mensa and a lifetime scholar
he deligently pursued his studies and at the age of 82 he received
his Doctorate Degree in Medieval Latin. Fr. Tom's first assignment
was to the Soceity's Queen of Apostles seminary in Dedham, Massachusetts.
He had a number of assignments in Augusta, Georgia, and Los Angeles,
California until he was elected to the Society of Missionaries
to Africa Provincial Coucil serving in Tenafly, New Jersey. He
then was assigned to the Bahamas until his arrival in London.
Upon arrival in the London Diocese, Fr. Tom ministered at St.
Michael's Parish, London as Associate Pastor until 1978. Fr.
Tom was officially incardinated into the Diocese of London on
January 19, 1978 and was appointed Chaplain to the Department
of Veteran's Affairs and remained at that post until his retirement.
After a rather short retirement, he left Canada and became the
Associate Pastor at Saint Anne's Catholic Church in Pensacola,
Florida in 1996. He remained at that position until his untimely
death on March 19, 2005.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeremiah and Margaret
O'FLAHERTY and siblings, Patricia, Declan and Delma. He is survived
by his brother, Bill and his sister, Betty (Sr. Dympna), both
residing in Ireland. He will be sadly missed by his many nieces,
nephews, cousins and Friends in Ireland and North America. He
was a man who lived his life day by day with devotion to his
religion, family and service to his fellow man and will be greatly
missed. A Memorial Service will be held n Monday, May 16th, 2005
at 7: 00 p.m. at St. Michael's Parish, London with the Most Reverend

freedom fighter for Lithuania ("Savanoris"), a proud Canadian,
an accomplished sportsman, and a dedicated sports leader. Friends
may call at the Turner and Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St.
W., at Windermere, east of the Jane subway, from 2-4 and 7-9
p.m. Friday. The Funeral Mass will be held at Lithuanian Martyrs
Church, 494 Isabella Ave., Mississauga, on Saturday, January
15, 2005 at 11 a.m. with interment at Saint John's Lithuanian Cemetery.
