NOVAK
(deceased 2003) and Ella
NOVAK (deceased 1993.) An excellent
scholar, she attended Sir Adam Beck Collegiate and the University
of Western Ontario graduating with an Honours Bachelor of Arts
in Music. A promising career as a violinist was cut short when
she developed rheumatoid arthritis in her early twenties. Ever
resilient and adventurous, she emigrated to Dusseldorf, Germany
in 1975 to teach English and learn German. A hardworking perfectionist,
she eventually ended up working at 3M in Hilden where, since
1988, she used her talent for languages and her organizational
skills.
In January 2004, she was diagnosed with lung cancer. In her typical
stubborn way, she grabbed the tiger by the tail. She immediately
quit smoking, educated herself about the disease, and then devoted
one hundred percent of her time fighting her disease. She stayed
well until August 2005.
With the help of family, Friends and palliative care personnel,
Sylvia was able to remain in her home until the last five days
of her life. She passed away quietly in a hospice attended by
Zorka and hospice staff.
A memorial service will be held in Hilden on November 27, 2005.
Private family interment of ashes will take place in Canada at
a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society
will be greatly appreciated by her family.

NOVAK,

George▲
Martin,▲ Ph.D., Dipl. Math., B.Sc.
It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing
in his 80th year of Dr. George Martin
NOVAK, beloved husband,
father and Opa. George died suddenly and peacefully in Intensive
Care at Centenary Health Centre on Tuesday, March 15, 2005 with
his entire family by his side. He will be missed by his wife
of 50 years, Rosemarie, his two children Alex (Sharon) and Hellen
(Alan) CANAVAN, and his grandchildren Jessica, Jason, Jeffrey
and Sarah. He is also survived by his sister Marcuka and brother
Jarozlav, both living in Germany. George was born on October
25, 1924 in Prague, Czechoslovakia. Following World War 2, George
moved to Germany. It was in Cologne where George met and married
his beloved Rosemarie and received his Ph.D. in mathematics.
Some things that made George particularly proud include: being
crowned Prince of Mardi Gras in 1974/75 with Rosemarie as his
Princess; his role as President of the Club Old Severin; watching
both of his children graduate from university; the birth of his
4 grandchildren; family vacations in Holland, Florida and Niagara
Falls, to name only a few; tinkering around in his workshop which,
among other things, allowed him to hold various patents in his
name. In the last year of this life George spent much of his
time sitting at his computer restoring old family photos. The
wonders of digital photography provided George with a whole new
means by which to catalogue his family history. He also enjoyed
a weekend in Niagara Falls with Rosemarie, many family celebrations
and dinners, and time spent working on the last of his many inventions,
this time with his good friend Dr. Murray
WILSON. He will be
sadly missed by family and Friends. A funeral service will be
held at the Scarborough Funeral Centre, 2966 Eglinton Avenue

March 19th at 11 a.m. with visitation two hours prior. In lieu
