(October 26, 1970-August 24, 2001)
Dear Peter,
These past years without you
Are the hardest we've ever known
We treasure every thought of you,
And keep them as our own.
Although we cannot see you
You are with us night and day,
For the love that was between us
Death cannot take away.
The next time we will see you
Will be at Heaven's Doors
You'll be there to greet us
And we will cry no more.
We'll put our arms around you
And kiss your smiling face
Then the pieces of our broken hearts
Will fall back into place.
People tell us we have memories
But they don't understand
How can we hug a memory
Or hold a memory's hand.
If tears could build a stairway
And memories a lane
We'd walk right up to Heaven
And bring you home again.
We hold you close within our hearts,
To walk with us throughout our lives,
Love you, miss you. Until we meet again. Love, your wife Ewa,
son Michael, Mom and Dad, your sister Barb, John, Paul and Stephen.

Black bear mauls doctor to death
Canadian Press
Missinaibi Lake Provincial Park -- Police and wildlife officials
were hunting a wounded black bear yesterday after a woman was
mauled to death and her husband hurt as he tried to stop the
animal dragging his wife into northern Ontario bush.
Campers have been ordered out of the back country of Missinaibi
Lake Provincial Park, about 80 kilometres north of Chapleau,
as conservation officers equipped with a helicopter and a dog
team scour the area.
Natural
Resources officials said Marc
JORDAN of Cambridge was
armed with only a Swiss Army knife as he fought to keep the predatory
animal from dragging his fatally mauled wife, Jacqueline
PERRY,
into the brush.
"He fought back as hard as he could with the weapon he had at
hand," Jolanta
KOWALSKI of the Ministry of Natural Resources
said. "But the bear was relentless in wanting to take her into
the bush."
JORDAN, 30, suffered cuts while slashing the bear at least five
times, police said. The computer specialist was flown to a Sudbury
hospital, where he was expected to require surgery. He was listed
in serious but stable condition.
PERRY, 30, was a family doctor at a Cambridge hospital. Staff
at Grandview Medical Centre were devastated on hearing of Tuesday's
attack, said lead physician, Jeff
MAIN.
JORDAN and
PERRY were on a two-week holiday, camping and kayaking
alone at a remote campsite when a black bear hunting for food
attacked, said Ontario Provincial Police Const. Karen
FARAND/PHARAND.
In the frantic attempt to save his wife, the injured
JORDAN carried
her to their kayak and began to paddle to the nearest campsite,
FARAND/PHARAND said.
He yelled for help and a 54-year-old man and his 30-year-old
son from Pennsylvania, camping at a site, heard him.
JORDAN put his wife into their boat, which carried them all off
in search of help.
About a kilometre away, they spotted and flagged down another
boat, which carried a doctor from North Carolina and an off-duty
police officer.
The▼ doctor tried to treat
PERRY while the boat continued to the
park's main office, about 10 kilometres away. But by then,
PERRY
had died.
"I've lived here all my life and this is a first for me," said
FARAND/PHARAND.
"I can't even imagine what
(PERRY and
JORDAN) went through."
FARAND/PHARAND said the area is home to many black bears and has had
more than its usual share of bear sightings this year because
it hasn't been a good season for blueberries.
Keith SCOTT, a bear expert with the Ministry of Natural Resources,
said such attacks are "very rare."
"There's only been four fatalities in Ontario through black bears
dating back to about 1978," he said.
"In this particular case, it's early in the investigation, but
it appears to be a predatory-type bear. These bears have learned
to and often prey on humans."
The attack is just the latest in what has been a busy season
for bear attacks across Canada.
A Manitoba man fended off a black bear in early September, just
one week after a black bear killed another man in the province.
There have also been four grizzly attacks in Alberta since June,
including a fatal one on a female jogger near Canmore. A woman
in British Columbia was also mauled in May.

Cambridge doctor fatally mauled by bear
Husband tries to fend off animal with knife
Community mourns 'wonderful' physician
By Liz MONTEIRO and Brian
CALDWELL, Torstar News Service, Kitchener-Waterloo
Record
Cambridge -- Armed with only a Swiss Army knife, Cambridge resident
Mark JORDAN fended off a predatory bear yesterday, but not before
the animal fatally mauled his wife, Dr. Jacqueline
PERRY.
"He fought back as hard as he could with the weapon he had at
hand," Jolanta
KOWALSKI of the Ministry of Natural Resources
said yesterday.
"But the bear was relentless in wanting to take her into the
bush."
The couple were on a two-week holiday in Missinaibi Lake Provincial
Park, 80 kilometres north of Chapleau, Ontario
PERRY, 30, was a family physician at the Grandview Medical Centre
on Hespeler Rd. in Cambridge, and
JORDAN, 30, is a computer specialist.
The couple married nearly four years ago and didn't have any
children.
Staff at the medical centre were devastated yesterday, and patients
were calling in disbelief, said the centre's lead physician,
Dr. Jeff MAIN.
"Jacqueline represented vitality and youthfulness," he said.
"It's like losing a child. She was the youngest partner here."
PERRY and
JORDAN were alone at the remote campsite yesterday
afternoon when a black bear hunting for food attacked, said Const.
Karen FARAND/PHARAND of the Superior East Ontario Provincial Police detachment.
The▲ bear went after
PERRY, and
JORDAN tried to distract it by
screaming.
Then,▲ as the animal dragged
PERRY into the bush,
JORDAN slashed
it at least five times with the Swiss Army knife. The bear finally
fled, and conservation officers were searching for it yesterday.
In the frantic attempt to save his wife, the injured
JORDAN carried
her to their kayak and began to paddle to the nearest campsite,
FARAND/PHARAND said. He yelled for help and a 54-year-old father and
his 30-year-old son from Pennsylvania, who were camping at a
site, heard him and got into their pontoon boat.
JORDAN put his wife into the boat, which carried them all off
in search of help. About a kilometre away, they spotted and flagged
down another boat, which carried a doctor from North Carolina
and an off-duty police officer.
The▲ doctor tried to treat
PERRY while the boat continued on to
the park's main office, about 10 kilometres away.
PERRY died of her injuries.
JORDAN was flown to St. Joseph's
Hospital in Sudbury, where he was in stable but serious condition
yesterday.
This is just the fourth time since 1978 that a black bear has
stalked and killed anyone in Ontario. The most recent attack
took place in 1992.
"It's very rare and we would prefer to keep it that way,"
KOWALSKI
said. "This is just one of those horrible aberrations."
FARAND/PHARAND said the father and son who came to the aid of the couple
had been frightened by the bear about 45 minutes before the fatal
attack.
The men were hiking when the bear approached them. They shouted
and made as much noise before the bear scampered,
FARAND/PHARAND said.
The pair returned to their campsite and were packing up when
they heard
JORDAN yell for help.
JORDAN's mother, Rosalind
JORDAN of Mississauga, who is at her
son's bedside in Sudbury, said her daughter-in-law was vivacious,
caring and compassionate with her patients and her family.
"She was a bright spark, a bright star," she said. "She knew
what she wanted. This just seems so wrong."
PERRY graduated from the University of Toronto's faculty of medicine
in 2001. She started at Grandview last November and became a
partner at the centre in July. She also worked part time as an
emergency room doctor at Brantford General Hospital.
"The community has lost a wonderful physician, and staff and
doctors have lost a great colleague and friend," said Jeff
POLL,
Grandview's administrator.
