Our mother, Phay passed away peacefully at the New Mount Sinai Hospital on Saturday, November 26th in her 94th year. Dear mother of John CARR (Monica,) Elizabeth KEDDIE (David) and Joanne LOSOS (Joseph), predeceased by her beloved husband Ernest P. (Ernie) and her parents, Margaret and Harvey NIXON. Beloved grandmother of Drew (Noosha), Michelle, Craig, Derek (Anne), Nicole (Paul), Jennifer (Henry), Nancy and Brian, great-grandmother of Natasha and Max, Brian and Owen. She will be fondly remembered by all for her kind and resilient spirit, her creativity and her ability to enjoy people, life and life's wonderful moments. A family service was held at the Humphrey Funeral Home - A.W. Miles Chapel on Thursday, December 8th followed by interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, beside her brother Richard NIXON. The CARR family is thankful to all of the staff at Briton House Retirement Centre for their compassionate care and assistance over the last two years and for the enduring love and companionship of family and Friends. Passed away at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie, after a lengthy battle with leukemia on Sunday, November 20, 2005, in his 50th year. Beloved husband of Kim FERRIER of Innisfil. Devoted father of Douglas and Hailey, both at home. Dear brother of Lesley and Carol. Keith is predeceased by his mother Cynthia KEDDIE and by his Nan TIZZARD. Keith will be greatly missed by his many Friends and family. A private family service will be held at a later date. Loving mom of Linda KIRCHNER and her husband Gerd of Nova Scotia, Wendy NICHOLS, Donna MARTIN, Mary MOXLEY and Don all of Saint Thomas, Betty ABLENAS and her husband Rick, Robert KEDDY and Wayne KEDDY all of London. Dear sister of George, Bryden, Joan, and Basil all of Nova Scotia. Also survived by her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Predeceased by her parents Lydia and Lynville HERMAN and by her sisters and brother, Elsie TALL, Marguerite SMITH and Royden HERMAN. Beloved husband of Sheri (née BLICK.) Survived by sister Susan KEDDY of Hong Kong and brother-in-law of Jim KEDDY (deceased.) Beloved son of Reverend Jack OZARD, and Dorothy (JONES) OZARD, both of Burlington, Ontario, Canada. William was a self-employed consultant. SHIER, R. Philip
Aged seventy-nine, lawyer, lover of many Friends and of life in general, died at his home in Vancouver on November 3rd, 2005 after struggling with cancer for eight months. Predeceased by his sister, Stephanie OUTTRIM. Survived by his sons Mark, (Barbara and grand_son Chris) and John (Margaret and granddaughters Fuchsia and Chelsea) and by Patricia KRAMER and granddaughter Rowen also by his brother Richard (wife Lenora) and brother-in-law Frank OUTTRIM and five cousins, five nephews and nieces and ten great nephews and great nieces. He will be greatly missed by the Friends who helped him through his last illness and especially by his beloved friend of many years, Marjorie (Jo) KEDDY. The family especially wishes to thank Dr. Duncan Miller, Lea Bennix, R.N., and the home care and nursing staff from the Home Hospice Program for their excellent care during Philip's last illness.
Born in Vancouver, Phil graduated from U.B.C. Law School in 1954 and articled to the late Jack Bourne, Q.C. He was called to the Bar in May 1955 and after working in the oil industry in Alberta returned to British Columbia to practice law in Dawson Creek and later in Vancouver where he established his reputation as a respected labour lawyer representing both Management and Union clients. He was often involved in industrial relations for some of the Province's leading economic industries.
He held a variety of professional offices including, President of the Vancouver Bar Association, Chairman of the Canadian Law Information Council, Executive Director of the Arbitrators Association of British Columbia and Secretary/Treasurer of the University of British Columbia Law Alumni Association. In retirement he served as a Canadian observer in critical elections in Albania and Bosnia.
He was a gregarious man with a remarkable gift for fun and Friendships. He was a proud and active member of the Terminal City Club and the Arbutus Club in Vancouver. In his career and in retirement he enjoyed life thoroughly, reading eclectically, travelling often and nurturing his many Friendships. He was a lover of Jazz music, good parties and had a prodigious memory for anecdotes and humour with which he regaled his Friends.
No service by Phil's request, but a celebration of his life will be held on Monday, November 14th from 4: 45 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. (tributes starting at 5: 30 p.m.), President's Ball Room, Second Floor, Terminal City Club, 837 West Hastings Street.
Donations may be made in his memory and sent to the Philip Shier Memorial Fund, 13911 - 22A Avenue, Surrey, British Columbia V4A 9V4. The Fund will benefit deserving law students.

After a courageous battle with cancer, Leon Joseph KEDZIERSKI, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 24, 2005 in the arms of his beloved wife and best friend Dee (Dorothea) with his loving daughters Andrea and Leann by his side. Leon is predeceased by his father Joseph, April 23, 1990, his mother Maria, June 30, 2002 and his infant brother, 1940 in Poland. Leon is survived by his in-laws Fred and Marion DEWBURY, 2 brothers-in-law, 3 sisters-in-law and their spouses. Leon is an uncle to several nieces and nephews, a Godfather to 4 Goddaughters and "Mr. Leon" to many children cared for in his home. The family will receive Friends and relatives at Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel, 1997 Dundas Street East (at Wavell), London for visitation on Wednesday, July 27, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of Leon's life will be held at 8 p.m. A private family burial will be held Thursday, July 28, 2005 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Saint Elizabeth Health Care or the Canadian Cancer Society would be gratefully appreciated.
