Unable to have children of her own, Bonnie Joanne (B.J.) HUBBARD cared for so many foster kids that it took a funeral -- her own for some of them to finally meet each other.
Ms. HUBBARD, who would have turned 58 on Wednesday, was born in 1947 and moved several times around Ontario as she grew up. After settling with her second husband in Bramalea, she soon sought an outlet for her desire to raise a family.
Her husband, David, says Ms. HUBBARD's first marriage had broken up after she learned that she was unable to have children. Because she still wanted to be a mother, and because both she and Mr. HUBBARD had suffered abuse as children, they decided to take in needy youths. Over the years, they took responsibility for "18, maybe 20" foster children, Mr. HUBBARD says.
"My mother, a single mom, couldn't really afford to take care of me, and Bonnie took me in," says Mark PARLIAMENT, 37, who became Ms. HUBBARD's charge when he was 6 and was the first of many foster children who passed through the HUBBARDs' home. He spent the early part of his adolescence trying to re-establish his relationship with his birth mother but ultimately went back to live with the HUBBARDs until he was grown.
Ms. HUBBARD died on March 3 at her home outside Keswick, Ontario, after struggling with kidney failure and heart problems. New additions to the HUBBARD family kept turning up until the last day of her life, Mr. PARLIAMENT says. Most of them showed up at her funeral too.

Jessie MUNRO, a resident of Milton and formerly of Kagawong, died at Milton on Monday, March 7, 2005 at the age of 77 years.
She was born in Campbell Township, daughter of the late Frank and Mary Jane (TURNBULL) HUBBERT.
Jessie and her husband Dave, who predeceased November 8, 2001, had attended the Salvation Army before moving to Manitoulin, then attended the Mindemoya Missionary Church. Jessie loved to read, and she had a great talent for writing. In all she wrote 5 books about the history of Manitoulin, as well as tracing the family tree. She also enjoyed gardening, painting, but mostly liked to spoil her grandchildren. Jessie was predeceased
by her beloved husband George David MUNRO. Loved and loving mother of Mark MUNRO of Arthur, Jane and Doug DAVISON of Georgetown, Robert of Arthur, Jessie and Jonathan WOOD of Milton, Ruth and Jonas STUTZMAN of Campbellville, Sandy and Janine MUNRO of Streetsville and Don and Sharon MUNRO of Aberfoyle. 3 teens killed in crash

Huntsville -- Two familes are mourning the loss of their only children after three teenagers -- two of them sisters -- died when their car slid on black ice and smashed into another vehicle on a cottage-country highway.
"These families lost their only children; it's unbelievably tragic," Huntsville High School principal Bruce REAIN said yesterday. Reain said all three girls excelled at school and were involved in a wide range of activities, including soccer and other sports, and the school choir.
Dorina HUBBERT, 19, and her 16-year-old sister Sabrina, along with Stephanie FISHER, an only child, died when their eastbound 2003 red Dodge Neon crossed the median on Highway 60 just before noon Tuesday.
The vehicle hit a westbound Ford Explorer driven by William BEDARD, 64. BEDARD and his 59-year-old wife Janis, both from Dwight, were treated and released at Huntsville District Memorial Hospital.
Ontario Provincial Police Const. Harry RAWLUK said an initial investigation showed that speed was likely a factor in the crash.
"Witnesses: saw the Neon fishtail and enter the westbound lane," RAWLUK said yesterday from a wrecking yard where the two vehicles were towed.
RAWLUK said the HUBBERT girls' father was notified as he was boarding a flight to Germany Tuesday afternoon. A master baker who toured the world as a consultant, Heinz HUBBERT had recently sold Henrietta Fine Bakery in Dwight, a popular destination for cottagers.
The HUBBERT sisters worked at the bakery during the summer, current owner Geoffrey HARRISS said.

Harold was born in Birdton, New Brunswick on April 20, 1921, the son of the late Charles "Earl" and Alice (BREWER) STAFFORD. After graduating from teacher's college, he entered into the Air Force, served as a sargeant and was stationed in Saint Thomas for 3 years. He was a graduate of the University of New Brunswick, Bachelor of Science and the University of New Brunswick Law School and attended the London School of Economics on a Lord Beaverbrook Scholarship. He started practicing law in 1953 in Brantford and then Saint Thomas in 1955. He was appointed to Queens Council in 1969. He was a Federal Member of Parliament for Elgin County from 1965 to 1972 and was Chairman of the Ontario Caucus. He was a member of Branch 41 of the Royal Canadian Legion, St. David's Masonic Lodge #302 Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons, the Hi-Ro Shrine, the Oddfellows and former member of Saint Thomas Kiwanis Club. Visitation and the funeral will both take place at the John T. Donohue Funeral Home at 362 Waterloo Street in London. Jerry/Gerald (L.F.) born Glace Bay, Nova Scotia June 9, 1936 - died Nanaimo, British Columbia May 12, 2005 at N.R.G.H. after a short, but courageous battle with cancer. Survived by his beloved wife and best friend Joan, son William (Gale) McINTYRE, daughters Kathleen and Christy McINTYRE, brothers Frank (Linda) HUBLEY, Gordon (Sharon) HUBLEY, sister Cheryl (John) KOZEY, sisters-in-law Carol (George) HOY and Judy BOURDAGE, 8 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, his Aunt Beauty, many cousins and dear Friends. Predeceased by his mother and step-father Sarah and Fred HUBLEY, and his father Lauchlin MacKAY. At Jerry's request, there will be no service. Joan asks that this man simply be remembered for his great ability to listen, his laughter and love of life, friend to many, and as he wished, leaves us and this world quietly.
