The former Jessie STANFORD, wife of the late Clifford ROPPEL, mother of Ed and his wife, Donna, and Keith and his wife, Jean, all of the former Bruce Twp., Linda and her husband, Allen JAYNES of Kipling, Saskatchewan and Joyce and her husband, Don SMITH, of Port Elgin. "Grandma Jessie" to Matthew SMITH, Laurie-Anne SIROIS, Patrick ROPPEL, Christopher ROPPEL, Mark ROPPEL, Jon JAYNES, Jennifer MIDDLEKAMP and Ryan Roppel GUY. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Ruby ROPPEL and a daughter-in-law, Ann GUY. Clara, peacefully at the Willowgrove Nursing Home, Ancaster on Thursday, January 13, 2005, in her 85th year. Clara DHONDT, formerly of Saint Thomas, beloved wife of the late Daniel (June 3, 2002) and dearest mother of Annie and her husband Bob GUY of Ancaster, Christine and her husband Wayne SPRINGMAN of Cambridge, Josephine and her husband Joe DALRYMPLE of Midale, Saskatchewan and the late Denise DHONDT (Dec. 17, 2002.) Lovingly remembered by eleven grandchildren: Greg, Mike, Mark, Daniel, Geoffrey, David, Patrick, Jeanette, Tonia, Ann Marie and Amy and three great-grandchildren. Clara was born in Belgium on February 1, 1920 and came to Canada in 1957. She was a member of Holy Angels' Church. Resting at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin Street, Saint Thomas until Monday morning and then to Holy Angels' Churchm where Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10: 00 a.m. Interment to follow in Holy Angels' Cemetery. Cherished Opa of Willi, Luise, and Erin Guy of Kentville, Nova Scotia and Matthew, Benjamin and Emily LERCH of London. Dear brother of Hilda BRUCKER (Adolph) and Mina BAUER (Adolph) all of Akron, Ohio. Also survived by 3 sisters-in-law in Germany and several nieces and nephews in the U.S.A. and Germany. MUIRHEAD, Amelia “Ivy” (formerly AYRES, née STARLING)
Amelia “Ivy” MUIRHEAD passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 17, 2005 in Caressant Care nursing home in Woodstock, Ontario, at the age of 99. Amelia was the widow of Gavin Stuart MUIRHEAD and Wilfrid Maxwell AYRES. Amelia (née STARLING) was born in 1906 in Cheveley, England. Lovingly called “Nanny” by those close to her, Amelia worked as a governess for the family of an English country gentleman and then for a prominent family in Denmark. Her service afforded her a unique opportunity to travel throughout Europe. She married her first husband Wilfrid AYRES in Cheveley in 1929 before immigrating to Canada in 1930 on the Empress of Scotland. The young couple settled in Montreal, Quebec where they raised two daughters and a son. Wilfrid passed away in 1965 following a battle with lung cancer. Amelia volunteered her time as president of the Cancer Society at Saint Mark's Church in St. Laurent, Quebec. She married her second husband Gavin MUIRHEAD in 1968 in St. Laurent and then moved with him to Woodstock in 1977. Amelia soon became an active member of Old St. Paul's Anglican Church and was involved in numerous church endeavours. She was accomplished in many arts and crafts and was especially adept at crochet and knitting. Her garden afforded her countless hours of enjoyment and she enjoyed walks and new learning experiences. Amelia remained active for many years after Gavin passed on in 1985 but when her own health started to fail she moved into a retirement residence before settling into the Caressant Care nursing home.
She leaves behind her son John AYRES and his wife Eliane Leclerc AYRES and two daughters Brenda MAVER (née AYRES) and Sheila WALKER (née AYRES) and daughter-in-law Elaine AYRES (née FAHRNER:) grandchildren Robin AYRES, Rand AYRES, Ken MAVER, Kathryn BROWNE (née MAVER), Robert WALKER, Tobin WALKER and Joanne TATRO (née WALKER); great grandchildren Robert MAVER, Michael MAVER, Andrew BROWNE, Sean BROWNE, Jaime WALKER, Kevin WALKER, and Keliann WALKER. She is survived by her sister-in-law Vi MUIRHEAD, daughter-in-law Alice BRAY (née MUIRHEAD,) step son-in-law Harold “Al” LOCKHART: step grandchildren Bruce LOCKHART, Joan COX (née LOCKHART,) Julie GRANT (née LOCKHART), Lynne WHEADON (née LOCKHART), Keith BRAY and Gail BRAY- GUY; numerous step greatgrandchildren and two step greatgreat-grandchildren. Brother-in-laws Clyde MUIRHEAD, Gordon MUIRHEAD and sister-in-laws Marge MUIRHEAD and Marguerite LOCKHART (née MUIRHEAD) predecease her. Amelia leaves behind her cousin Eileen HALLIDAY now residing in Port Washington, U.S.A., and sister-in-law Lily HOOD in England. Surviving nephews and nieces from England and Scotland are Richard STARLING, Sylvia Williams SWANN (née STARLING), David STARLING, Michael STARLING, Roy ANDERSON, Robin HOWE, Trevor HOWE, Sylvia HOOD, as well as many great and great-great nephews and nieces. Funeral service will be held on Monday, August 22 at 11 a.m. at the Smith-LeRoy Funeral Home, 69 Wellington St. N., Woodstock. A reception will follow the service. Peacefully, at his home, on Monday, November 21st, 2005, Mark STRINGLE of Dorchester, passed away at the age of 51. Cherished husband and best friend of Christine. Loving father of Derek. Much loved son of Myrtle and the late Jack STRINGLE, and son-in-law of Gail MUSCIA, and Bernard and Julia BURNS. Dear brother of Julie and her husband Mike DEJAGER whose love and on-going support was constant throughout. Dear brother of the late Marguerite STRINGLE, Jacqueline SPRINGER (Jack REDMAN), Gary STRINGLE (Polly). Mark will also be missed by family members Ryan and Michelle DEJAGER, Lorie LELIEVER, Karen LEBLANC, Kim FORSTER, and Lee STRINGLE, Tracy, Kelly, Ellen, Scott and Jadyn BURNS, Daryl GRANT, Cimon, Ariane and Thierry GUY, Lorraine, Mike and Marsha WALSH. Friends will also miss Mark and all that he brought to their lives. Mark touched and influenced many. He lived life to the fullest and strived to be all things to everyone. Passed away quietly on Friday, December 2, 2005 at Oakville Trafalgar Hospital after a short illness, in her 76th year. Loving wife, mother and grandmother. Marion was a spiritual person with a warm heart and cheerful disposition. She will be sadly missed. Marion was born and raised in Halifax. Her love of music led her to study at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto where she met her husband Russell. They married and settled in Oakville where they ran a family-owned toy store together and raised a family. Lovingly remembered by her husband Russell, daughter Colleen, son Bruce and his wife Marilyn, and son Robert and his wife Tanit. Cherished by her grandchildren Charlotte, Noel, Liam and Graeme and her nephews and nieces. Predeceased by her brothers John and Rick FOSTER and she leaves behind her sister Margaret GUY and sister-in-law Margaret FOSTER. Predeceased by her husband Marvin (1968), sons Ted and Ken, and a daughter Donna, and sisters Irene, Lillian, Marjorie, Bess, and Jean. SAWCHUCK, Frank John Theodore
Passed away peacefully, on Saturday, December 10, 2005, at Centenary Hospital, in his 88th year. Veteran of World War 2. Beloved husband of Shirley (née BROADHEAD.) Dearest father of Gayle GUYMER (Phil,) and the late Terry. Will be sadly missed by daughter-in-law Lorna and Steve. Much loved Bubby of Stacy GUYMER, Kim EISENER (Scott,) Michelle GEORGIEVSKI (Jamie), Michael and Mark. Dearest great-grandfather of Zachary GUYMER- JACOBS and Graedon EISENER. Dear brother of Mary STEVENSON (Alex) and Joe SAWCHUCK (Francis.) Predeceased by his parents Pauline and William, brothers John, Nick, Charlie, Walter and sisters Olive and Anne. Special thanks to the caring staff at the Altamont Nursing Home and the staff at Centenary Hospital. Friends may call at Oshawa Funeral Service "Thornton Chapel," 847 King Street West (905-721-1234), for visitation on Wednesday, December 14th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Thursday, December 15th at 11: 00 a.m. Cremation.
