Passed away, surrounded by his loving family, at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital, Burlington on Thursday, August 25, 2005 at the age of 71. Beloved companion of Valerie VLACHOS. Loving father of Howard (Jill), Jeff (Jan) and Jamie (Leslie). Cherished Gramps of Corey, Andrea, Emma, Jess and Ryan. Dear brother of Jean RAE of Kitchener, Bill (Marjorie), David (Beverley), Lindsay (Julie), and Barbara ELMHIRST. Predeceased by his sister Nancy GOMBERT. Step-brother of Betty CROSS (Bob) and Don SHEPPARD. Sam is survived by a loving group of cousins, nieces and nephews. Sam was an avid sports enthusiast, who participated by playing fastball and coaching youth baseball in the Burlington Community. For many years Sam was the owner of Nelson Door and Hardware in Burlington. Man missing since February 16 found dead

A father and son out for an afternoon walk in Morningside Park made a grim discovery yesterday afternoon: the body of a 57-year-old man who wandered away from a Scarborough nursing home nearly a month ago.
John GOMES, who suffered from schizophrenia and required medication, was last seen leaving the Seven Oaks Nursing Home in Scarborough on February 16, wearing only a T-shirt, cotton pants, running shoes and a three-quarter-length jacket.
The nursing home, which houses 250 residents, is located on Neilson Rd. near Morningside Ave. and Ellesmere Rd., right beside the park where GOMES' body was discovered yesterday.
No foul play is suspected in the death, and an autopsy was scheduled for today to determine the exact cause.
Det. Tim BATES said GOMES' family repeatedly expressed their gratitude to the public, media and police for their help in trying to locate GOMES after he went missing.

On April 30th, 2005, at age 87, our dearest Mom passed away peacefully. Her soul went to heaven to meet her beloved husband Alvin and son Godfrey. Marie Elizabeth YUNDT, of Stratford, passed away at the Stratford General Hospital on Sunday, April 24, 2005 in her 87 year. Born in North Easthope Township, she was a daughter of Henry and Lydia (SOEDER) SCHMIDT. She had been an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Stratford, the Evangelical Lutheran Women, Zippy Zioners and had taught Sunday School for several years. Beloved wife of Guilford (Jim) YUNDT, whom she married at the church Parsonage on June 15, 1940. Dear mother of Wayne YUNDT and wife Dianne of Stratford and Jean GOMEZ and husband John of Ottawa. Teenager killed in Hwy. 400 crash

A teen driver was killed and two of his three passengers seriously injured in a car crash Thursday morning on the southbound ramp of the Highway 400 extension, just north of Barrie.
Scott BRETT, 18, of Uxbridge died at the scene. Nicolas CORBETT, 20, Andrew WARD and Kyle TURNER, both 18 -- also all from Uxbridge were taken to Barrie's Royal Victoria Hospital by ambulance.
CORBETT and WARD were later airlifted to Sunnybrook and Women's College Health Sciences Centre in Toronto with serious injuries. CORBETT is now listed in good condition, WARD in fair condition. TURNER is listed in fair condition at Royal Victoria Hospital.
After seeing a blue 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier down the right-hand side embankment along the tree line at the scene, a tractor-trailer driver called 911 Emergency at about 4: 11 a.m.
“They obviously lost control on the ramp,” said Const. Tom EDGAR of Barrie Ontario Provincial Police, who also said there is no indication that alcohol was a factor.
Ontario Provincial Police say the Cavalier crashed through the guardrail -- taking out four of its posts but not the metal cables went down an embankment and slid into a stand of trees.
One was broken off and only a stump remained, while some smaller trees were splintered or sheared off by the vehicle.
Police say three of the four, and possibly all of the car's occupants, were not wearing seat-belts.
“They (the ones not wearing seat-belts) were ejected before the car hit the trees. All of the occupants were (found) on this side of the road,” said Const. EDGAR, gesturing toward the crash site. “One was on the bank, the other two between here and the bush.&rdquo
Markings made by investigators at the scene indicate the Cavalier was in the ramp's left-hand lane, crossed over to the right and then went through the guardrail.
The car is a write-off. Its front window peeled back, its roof and sides crushed. Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to remove one of the doors.
Highway 400's southbound extension was closed for the Ontario Provincial Police investigation at 4: 30 a.m. and re-opened at 11: 30 a.m. Motorists were rerouted to Forbes Road and onto Highway Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to call Ontario Provincial Police at 726-6484 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Mounting Death Toll
• George LABBE, 67, of Huntsville died the morning of August 9 after his Jeep Cherokee collided with a Pontiac Grand Prix driven by April SOBISCH, 31, of Alliston. LABBE was travelling south in the northbound lanes of Highway 400 in Barrie. SOBISCH is recovering in a Toronto hospital. Her infant son, Owen, wasn't injured. Ontario Provincial Police are investigating.
• Melissa GOMEZ, 21, of Toronto died last Friday evening in hospital after the GMC Envoy▼ she was a passenger in rolled as it entered the southbound lanes of Highway 400, just south of Highway 89, and was struck by another vehicle.
Ontario Provincial Police say none of the Envoy's four occupants, including GOMEZ, were wearing seat-belts.

Two people who died in a two vehicle crash in Clearview Township early Wednesday morning weren't wearing their seatbelts.
Huronia West Ontario Provincial Police said the crash, which took place around 1: 40 a.m., involved a truck and car on Centre Line Road, just north of County Rd. 9.
Investigators said a 2002 Ford pickup, heading south, sideswiped a 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier that was northbound.
The truck subsequently rolled and its three passengers were ejected. None of them were wearing seatbelts, police said, adding they suspect speed and alcohol were factors in the incident.
The▼ driver of the Ford, Kelly PERKIN, 27, of Stayner, was pronounced dead at the scene and two other occupants were transported by ambulance to Collingwood General and Marine Hospital.
Daniel HOULE, 23, of Stroud, died at G&M. HOULE is a former resident of Stayner. Mary MILLIGAN, 25, of Wasaga Beach, was treated for what police are calling minor injuries and released.
The▼ operator of the other vehicle, 39-year-old Jacob LALKENS of Stayner, was not injured in the crash, police said.
The investigation continues.
Both funerals are being held Saturday, for HOULE at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, 315 Pine Street, Stayner; and for PERKIN at 1 p.m. in the chapel at Carruthers and Davidson Funeral Home, 7313 Hwy. 26, Stayner. Visitations were set for 6-9 p.m. Friday at Carruthers and Davidson Funeral Home.
Ontario▼ Provincial▼ Police▼ Const. Mark KINNEY, in a telephone interview Wednesday afternoon, said the mishap serves as a reminder about why people should buckle up.
"Studies have proven you are more safe if you are secured inside a vehicle and something happens," he said.
Last week's incident falls on the heels of a similar story that took place on August 12. Melissa GOMEZ, 21, of Toronto, died after the GMC Envoy▲▼ she was a passenger in lost control on Highway 400, near Highway 89, and was struck by a Ford 500.

At her home, on Tuesday, November 29, 2005 at age 76. Daughter of the late Mary Olive RIBBLE (d. 1958) and Frederick GOMME (d. 1963). Born in London, Ontario January 27, 1929. Predeceased by her husband William Armstrong ARGUE (1998) and stillborn son (1969.) Survived by: loved daughter Mary Elizabeth ARGUE (Martin DENYES,) adored grandchildren, Matthew, Jacob and Anne DENYES. Also survived by twin brother Maurice GOMME, (Marilyn), St. Catharines, brothers, Edwin (Ted) GOMME (Paula), Toronto and Russell (Alma) GOMME, Agincourt. Predeceased by siblings, Evelyn and Ruth (both, October 1927) from Spinal Meningitis, prior to antibiotics and immunization. Survived by brother-in-law, Alan ARGUE (Joanne,) nieces, Catherine CONNOR and Barbara GOMME, nephews, Paul (Tatyana) GOMME and Andrew (Anne) GOMME and several nieces and nephews in the ARGUE family as well as several grandnieces and grandnephews in both the ARGUE and GOMME families. Words cannot adequately thank the many Friends and family who have been so helpful to Marion, during her illness. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be at the Burke Funeral Home (613-968-6968) 150 Church Street, Belleville, Ontario on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Memorial/ Celebration at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Church and Victoria Streets, on Saturday, December 3, 2005 at 2: 00 p.m, conducted by the Reverend Anne Marie JONES. Loving aunt of Michael GRIFFIN (Jennifer GOMMERMAN), Cathy GRIFFIN (Diccon GARRETT), Becky GUNN (Dean WRIGHT) and Ritchie GUNN (Carmen CACIC;) great-aunt to Charlie GRIFFIN.
