Born in Yarmouth Township, September 13, 1922, the
son of the
late Albert and Jessie
(SMUCK)
PORTER. He was a former employee
of Allen's Dry Cleaner's, Saint Thomas. Mr.
PORTER was one of Jehovah's
witnesses. At Mr.
PORTER's request, there will be no public visitation.
A public memorial service will be held at The Kingdom Hall, R.R.#7,
Saint Thomas (Gore Road and Highway #3) on Saturday, January 29,
2005 at 2: 00 p.m. Private interment has taken place in Elmdale
Memorial Park, Saint Thomas. Memorial donations to the Canadian
Diabetes Association gratefully acknowledged. The Sifton Funeral
Home, 118 Wellington Street, Saint Thomas entrusted with arrangements.

Four rebel prisoners, 1838 -- Died This Day

After the Battle of Windsor, in which a rebel force supported
by American sympathizers crossed the Detroit River and laid siege
to Windsor, a number of prisoners were taken. Four men who were
captured still armed with guns were ordered shot by John
PRINCE,
a Colonel of the Essex militia who was also a lawyer and local
landowner. Others, including Joshua

near London), were later hanged.
