On Wednesday November 16th, 2005 at the St. Catharines General Hospital N.H.S., at 64 years of age. Beloved wife of Bernie. Loving mother of Terry (Cindy), Pat (Laura), Cliff (Michelle), Gerry and Karen Shepherd (Dan). Cherished Nanna of 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Frances will be lovingly remembered by her sisters, brother, family and Friends. The▲ family of the late Thelma Cushing MacLEAN would like to thank Dr. Greg GILLIS and Desiree, his receptionist and the staff at Chelsey Park Retirement Home for the excellent care they gave to Mom over the last year. We would also like to thank the staff on A9, University Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre for the care and support they offered to "Gramma" and to us during the last week of her life. We offer a special thanks to her nurses, Pat, Kelly and Mary Beth and to Marg, (P.S.A.). To our long time Friends, the "Rovers and Trefoils" for the warm send off for "Ma", and to all of our other Friends, neighbours and family a sincere thank you. Peacefully, at Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 in his 89th year. Cherished husband and best friend of Jean (ESTER) CUSHING. son of the late Joseph and Mary CUSHING. Brother of the late Mary WILLS and the late Robert CUSHING. Loving father of Richard (Deb JESSHOPE) CUSHING of Oakville, Barbara (Jim) PALLISTER of Innerkip and Russell CUSHING (Debby TRASK- CUSHING) of Nova Scotia. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Cpl. Dana CUSHING (United States Marine Corps), Dann CUSHING of Toronto and Angela and Jillian PALLISTER of Innerkip. George was born and educated in Boston, Massachusetts. During World War 2, he served as a First Mate in the U.S. Merchant Marine and as a Navigator (1st Lieut.) with the Air Transport Command (U.S. Army). An avid sailor, George was a member of the Royal Canadian Yacht Club and the Niagara-on-the-Lake Sailing Club for many years.
Funeral service will be held at Saint Mark's Anglican Church, (Byron Street) Niagara-on-the-Lake, on Monday March 7, 2005 at 2: 00 o'clock. Peacefully, on Friday, September 16, 2005, Ross STENSON, aged 95, at Kensington Gardens, Toronto. Ross was predeceased by his "bonnie" wife Jean STENSON (née WILLARD,) his partner, Catherine DUBOIS, and two of his beloved children, Willard Ross STENSON and Lynda CUSHING. He is survived by his dear sister, Verna STENSON of Montreal, and loving daughters Gail CARSON and Gloria BISHOP. Ross was the fond "Patron" of nine grandchildren: Allison BISHOP and Leith BISHOP (Glen WATSON); Dorothy CARSON (Rob CRABTREE), Melissa CARSON and Brennan CARSON (Sue); Stephan STENSON; and Ross CUSHING (Jen), Blake CUSHING (Holly), and Nicholas CUSHING. His nine great-grandchildren Shea and Trevor BISHOP- DUFFY, Hayley BISHOP, John, Megan and Blake CARSON, Duncan, Justin and Miranda CRABTREE gave him particular pleasure in his final years. A memorial service will be held in his beloved Montreal on October 6, when he will be remembered for his great integrity, fine piano-playing and bad puns.

Brother-in-law of Harry and the late Bette COLLINS and uncle to Peter, Kelly and Nicki. John was predeceased many years ago by his sister Ruby. He was a decorated veteran of the Second World War, a Progressive Conservative Member of Parliament (York West) from 1954 to 1962, and a distinguished lawyer. John founded the law firm of Hamilton Torrance in 1946 and specialized in air transport law, travelling regularly across the country and often around the world. He served on a number of corporate boards, particularly Canadian Pacific Airlines. Even after John retired from the law firm, he continued as special counsel to Canadian Pacific Air and it successor Canadian Airlines. He didn't really retire until after serving as a Commissioner on the Royal Commission on National Passenger Transportation from 1989 to 1992. He was a Queen's Counsel and a Juris Doctor from the University of Toronto. He participated in fund drives over many years for various charities and served on public institutions, including two hospitals in Toronto. He was especially proud of his Order of Canada. John loved to build things, designing office buildings and renovating houses (which Gwen decorated) and cottages in Muskoka. He loved to meet people and made great new Friends right up to the end of his life. John had been ill for a few months, but was still interested in hearing about family and Friends (both old and new) and current events. The family wishes to thank his doctors and the caring staff at Briton House Retirement Centre, 720 Mount Pleasant Rd. At his request, there will be no funeral service. A private get-together will be held with Friends at a later date.

Masked teen dies on way to fight

A Woodbridge teen was fatally injured as he and other masked youths armed with weapons chased other teens to assault them, police revealed yesterday.
Pritpaul Singh DHANOA, 17, died in hospital Saturday, hours after he fell from a moving car and struck his head on a curb along Chancellor Dr. in Vaughan.
York Region police said there was no evidence to support earlier reports that DHANOA had been repeatedly kicked in the head and thrashed with sticks by up to six assailants in the Friday night fight.
In fact, police said he was among a group of East Indian youths who went to the area near Giovanni Caboto Park, a popular hangout for teens after dark, armed themselves with sticks, bats and pipes, pulled on ski masks and tried to attack a group of teens of Italian heritage.
When the second group fled to avoid a beating, the first group jumped into cars and gave chase along Chancellor, in the Pine Valley Dr.-Highway 7 area.
It was there that DHANOA fell from a car and struck his head.
Friends put him back in the car and drove to a nearby plaza before calling police for help. An autopsy yesterday showed he died from blunt force head injuries.
"It appears that the intent of these youths was to engage in a confrontation," said Inspector Anthony CUSIMANO. " Something has obviously gotten out of hand and as a result a young man has lost his life.
"This appears to be normal tensions that appear to exist between groups.
"There's no one underlying reason that has brought this to a head."
Other senior police officers said that although the two groups were split along ethnic lines, there was nothing to indicate the battle was ethnically or racially motivated.
But young people in the area told the Toronto Star the fight was the result of a simmering feud between two groups sparked by a racial slur this summer.
Police would say only that the dispute was the result of "ongoing issues" among the youths.
Relatives rallied around the family of the dead Grade 12 honours student, trying vainly to make sense of what happened Friday night.
Friends left flowers and wreathsbeside the blood-stained curb where DHANOA fell.
Superintendent Gord SMYTH said police are concerned about the way the youths tried to deal with their problems.
"(We're) absolutely alarmed at it, because it's something we don't teach, it's something we don't tolerate," he said.
He said police would do "everything in our power" to ensure there would be no retaliation.
"No one went there with the intent of anyone losing their life," he said. "We have to be responsible for our actions.
"But we also have to send the message that what you do can gave dire consequences."
Vaughan Mayor Michael DI BIASE said the death was an "unexpected" result of youthful tensions.
"I am just as surprised as anyone else and sad," he said, adding he was unaware of any racial tensions among youth in his community.
"It's very unfortunate that sometimes youth groups get together and they don't realize that things do happen and can get out of hand," DI BIASE said.
"It's sad because it's a young life, something that should not have happened."
