At the Willett Hospital Paris on Wednesday, May 18 2005 George William ARTHRELL of Brantford and formerly of Paris, in his 90th year. Dear husband of the late Doris SHOWERS (2002;) beloved father of Betty and her husband Alex MARTIN of London, Doug and his wife Jane of Waterloo; loved grandfather of Laura, Jessica and Eric; dear brother of Jean STOREY of Scarborough and uncle of Shirley SCHROEDER of West Hill. Predeceased by brother Gerald ARTHRELL and sister Ethel JORDAN.
Mr. ARTHRELL was a longstanding member of St. Paul's United Church, Paris where he was an active member of the choir and served on many committees. He was a veteran of the Second World War serving overseas with the Essex Scottish Regiment and was an active member of the Paris Lawn Bowling Club. He was a former 50 year employee of Penmans in Paris and Brantford. Friends will be received at the Wm. Kipp Funeral Home, 184 Grand River Street North, Paris on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. where funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 21 at 11: 00 a.m. Reverend Margaret BAIN officiating. Helen served in the Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service/Reserve in World War 2 in France, Belgium and Germany. After raising her family, she returned to nursing in the maternity department at Sarnia General Hospital. Helen was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 176, Forest. Beloved wife of Clayton Richard MILLMAN (Dec. 31, 1985) and dearly loved mother of Treanne and her husband Calvin McQUIGGAN of Springfield and Sue and her husband Nick HERNADI of Calgary. Dear sister of Maude ARTHUR of Waterdown and Alberta NELSON of Rodney. Loved grandmother of Jeffrey, Chantelle, Melissa, Adam and Jennifer, great-grandmother of Chad, Curtis, Brad, Lee, Kelly and Ashley and great-great-grandmother of Hailey. Marion was born in Rodney on November 25, 1916, the daughter of the late Frank and Lillian BAKER. She was a Registered Nurse and was a member of St. Andrews United Church. Dear father of Margaret (Frank) SIMONS, Calgary, Kathrine BUCSKO (Ralph SMITH), Parry Sound, Ada Mary (R.A.D.) ARTHUR, Victoria and Robert STEELE (Melanie,) Corunna. Loving grandfather of Denis SIMONS (Leah), Calgary, Dan SIMONS, Calgary, Eden SIMONS, Fernie, British Columbia, Angie ALEXANDER, Niagara Falls, Sabrina BUCSKO, London, Andrei BUCSKO, London, Dylan STEELE, Sarnia, Clayton STEELE, Owen Sound and Paige STEELE, Corunna. Bruce was a radio officer with the British Merchant Marine in World War 2, and saw service in the convoys at the height of the Battle of the Atlantic, in the Mediterranean, the Indian Ocean and the Red Sea. He was a 35 year employee and, after his retirement in 1983, a proud annuitant of Imperial Oil in Sarnia. Bruce sang in the Central United Church Choir for 50 years, retiring in 1997. He was a member of Liberty Lodge # 419 Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons, Huron Lodge # 392 Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons, Wawanosh Chapter # 15 Royal Arch Masons, St. Simon Cyrene Preceptory # 37, and Mocha Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 176, Forest. Visitation at the McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 431 Christina St. N. He was the loving grandfather of Carrie, Trevor, Rick, Luke, Marina, Adele and Sara and brother of Nicki BELLISSIMO. Art came from Italy when he was three years old, worked hard and took risks to build very successful businesses in real estate and hotels. He leaves a legacy of kindness, generosity and optimism. Peacefully in his 82nd year at St. Joseph's Health Centre in Toronto. Norman is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Jean, his children Gary (Maureen), Brian (Donna), Wayne (Katherine), Sandra and D'Arcy (Sarah), his grandchildren, Steven, Michelle, Somer, Matthew, D'Arcy, Whitney, Emily, Natasha and Isabel, great-grandchildren Lauren and Claire. He is also survived by his sisters Helen and Merna and was predeceased by his sister Aileen. Norman served as a pilot and navigator with the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War 2. He was a graduate of McMaster University in Political Science, and founder of Arthurs Publications Ltd. Norman was an avid boater spending many summers with family navigating the waterways of Ontario. Later in life he renewed his skill as private pilot and travelled across North America with his wife, Jean, in his own plane. Throughout his years of boats and airplanes and running a very successful business, Norman never wavered in his passion for the game of golf and will be sadly missed by his Friends of more than thirty years at Markland Wood Golf and Country Club.
