HORNBY, Erma Marion (HOWEY)
Peacefully, at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital, with family by her side, on Tuesday, February 1, 2005, Erma Marion (HOWEY) HORNBY of Tillsonburg and formerly of Straffordville, in her 82nd year. Born in Aylmer, Ontario, December 30, 1923, daughter of the late Harold HOWEY (Straffordville) and the late former Edith ALWARD (Aylmer.) Predeceased by her husband of 57 years, George Francis HORNBY (June 17, 2003.) Much loved mother of: Judy and husband (Dr. Wes CUTBUSH) of Barrie. Predeceased by her son Barry HORNBY (August 19, 1995.) Survived by a daughter-in-law: Noreen HORNBY of Hamilton. Proud grandmother of three grand_sons: Jonathon DRYSDALE of Barrie; and Adam and Todd HORNBY of Hamilton. Also survived by her sister: Reba and husband (Wayne PROCUNIER) of St. Catharines and niece Kimberley and a brother: Allan HOWEY and his wife Catherine of Beamsville and nephews: Brent, Glen and Robert and nieces: Patty and Beth. Survived by sisters-in-law: Shirley HOWEY of Straffordville and Jean HOWEY of Tillsonburg and cousins: Dick and Audrey HORNBY of Woodstock. Predeceased by a brother Donald HOWEY and a nephew Tim HOWEY. Resting at the Verhoeve Funeral Home, 262 Broadway, Tillsonburg for service to celebrate the life of Erma HORNBY on Friday at 11 a.m. in the Verhoeve Funeral Home Chapel by Reverend Richard A. JONES of the Saint John's Anglican Church, Tillsonburg. Interment Straffordville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations (by cheque) to the "T.D.M.H. (Dialysis Fund)" or the "Breast Cancer Foundation" or the "O.S.P.C.A., Oxford Co." would be gratefully acknowledged by the family. ANDERSON, Thomas J.H.
Suddenly at home on May 8, 2005 Mr. Thomas J.H. ANDERSON of London in his 68th year. Beloved husband of Joy ANDERSON (Smith.) Loving father of Guy ANDERSON and Kim ALWARD and her husband Terrance. Dear uncle to Lori BARDY. Devoted Papa of Jordan and Katreena ALWARD. He leaves behind 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Predeceased by his father Thomas, mother Helen, sister Maralyn BARDY, and brother William ANDERSON. Thomas was a long standing volunteer of the London Center for the Deaf, Canadian Hearing Society, Learning Disability Association, and the C.N.I.B.D.S. His family will be accepting Friends at the Lloyd R. Needham Funeral Chapel on Thursday, May 12, 2005 from 7-9 p.m. A graveside service will be held in Belleville. Contributions to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.

SMYTH, Jack Norman
Jack Norman SMYTH was born on August 17, 1933 in Port Burwell and lived there all his life. He was the owner and operator of Port Burwell Welding and served as the Reeve of Port Burwell for 7 years and also served on town council. Jack passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2005 at the London Health Sciences Trauma Unit, South Street Campus as the result of an automobile accident and stroke.
Jack was the son of the late Floyd and Irene (FLEUELLING) SMYTH. He is survived by his wife and best friend for 41 years, Irene (BERDAN) SMYTH. Loving step-father of Karen ALWARD and her husband Murray and Murray WISSON and his wife Linda. Cherished grandfather of Tom ALWARD and Donna, Paul ALWARD and Lisa, Melissa CAIN and Bob, Stephanie WISSON and Nadine BUTLER and Shaun. Papa Jack will be greatly missed by his 5 great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Bud SMYTH and Kay, Marguerite FOLOW, Leta TOWNSEND, Myrtle BARTOLACCI and Donna DOUCETTE and Frank. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service for Jack will be held at the Ostrander's Funeral Home, Tillsonburg (842-5221) on Monday, May 16, 2005 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Bill BALL officiating. Mrs. Bernice BERTLING of Gilbert Avenue, Delhi passed away at the Norfolk General Hospital, Simcoe on Wednesday, May 18, 2005 in her 89th year. Member of Saint John Brebeuf Catholic Women's League and former member of the Ladies Optimist Club of Delhi. Former Bernice Jessie MUSSELL. Beloved wife of the Late Gordon L. BERTLING (1989.) Loving mother of Diane BERTLING, Delhi; David BERTLING (Linda,) Tillsonburg and Phillip BERTLING (Helen,) Delhi. Cherished grandmother of four grand_sons: Jason, Michael (Sarah), Paul and Bryan BERTLING. Special grandmother to Matthew and Peter MALCOLM, Tabitha ALWARD, Lance and Meeko. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by two brothers: Robert MUSSELL (2003) and his Late wife Patricia (1987,) William BOWYER (1981) and by her two nephews: James CHANDLER (1996) and Robert CHANDLER (1985). Suddenly, but peacefully at University Hospital on Monday, June 27, 2005, Mr. John H. CASE, in his 72nd year. Dear father of Philip (Jackie) and Dr. Lee Ann CHARLTON- CASE (Bradley.) Proud grandfather of Shelby ALWARD (Stephan) and greatgrandfather of Jaykob and Destiney. John will be missed by his former wife, Florence, and especially by his long time companion Halina FONSECA (Christopher, Lisa, Natalie and Daniel). A memorial service will be held at the Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Rd. North, on Sunday July 10, 2005 at 11: 00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. At Victoria Hospital, on Sunday, October 23rd, 2005, Dorothy June (née SWEETZIR) LIEKNINS of London at the age of 70 years. Beloved mother of Sharon LIEKNINS and her husband John PAETZ, Karen ERNST and her husband Robert, Alan LIEKNINS and his fiancée Sherry MITCHELL, and Mark LIEKNINS. Predeceased by her son Glen LIEKNINS and the father of her children Alfs LIEKNINS. Dear grandmother of Jonathon, Larissa, Allison and Bobby. Dear sister of Edward SWEETZIR and his wife Nancy, Ron SWEETZIR and his wife Vi, and Pat ALWARD and her husband Keith. Predeceased by her sister Donna REEVE, and her parents Gordon and Amy SWEETZIR. Visitation will be held on Monday from 7-9 p.m., Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and 1 hr prior to the service being conducted at the Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, on Wednesday, October 26, 2005 at 3 p.m. Interment in Woodland Cemetery, London.

MacHUM, Lawrence Merritt, Q.C. (August 02, 1929-March 10, 2005)
After a short but fierce struggle with pulmonary fibrosis, Larry died peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on March 10th, 2005. He was a son of the late Donald Wilfred MacHUM and Mary Gibson (MERRITT) MacHUM. He is survived by his wife, Judith BRANNEN, by four children -- Greg MacHUM (Ann) of Fredericton, Lauren COSMAN (Mike) of Saint John, Geoff MacHUM of Halifax and Grant MacHUM (Jane) of Halifax, as well as by three step children Lisa ALWARD (John BALL) of Fredericton, Peter ALWARD of Lethbridge and Gavin ALWARD (Mary) of Halifax. In addition, he is survived by 13 grandchildren (Melissa, Michael, Emily, David and Heather MacHUM, Jonathan and Justin COSMAN, Andrew and Matthew MacHUM, Henry, Alexander, Amelia and Mary MacHUM) and by five step grandchildren (Hilary, Jack and Peter BALL and Olivia and Emily ALWARD.) His sister, Kathryn GILLESPIE of Calgary, and brother, Donald (Sandy) MacHUM of Edmonton, along with five nieces and one nephew also survive. At Larry's request there will be no visitation or funeral service. A family celebration of his life will take place at a later date. His remains have been cremated and his ashes will be scattered, as he wished them to be, over the Bay of Fundy. He loved his wife, his children, his beautiful garden and walking through the Yorkshire Dales. Mrs. Ruby (STONEHOUSE) FRETZ, formerly of R.R.#3, Saint Thomas and Markham, passed away at Caressant Care on Bonnie Pl., St. Thomas on Tuesday, March 29, 2005, in her 94th year. Beloved wife of the late Edward FRETZ (1973.) Dearly loved mother of Edna YOUNG and her husband Major Billy J. YOUNG (United States Air Force Ret.) of Fort Gratiot, Michigan, Eileen Alway SPITZKE and her husband William of Tillsonburg, June SPENCER and her husband Nelson of Saint Thomas, and Ray FRETZ and his wife Carol of Traer, Iowa. Dear sister of Marion WALLACE of Keswick and Howard STONEHOUSE of Markham. Also remembered by 7 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Mrs. FRETZ was predeceased by a son-inlaw, Ron ALWAY (2003) and several brothers and sisters.
Born in Markham, Ontario, August 11, 1911, daughter of the late Deforest and Edna (COULSON) STONEHOUSE. Mrs. FRETZ was a member of the Saint Thomas Pentecostal Assembly and a former member of Wideman Mennonite Church, Markham. Friends will be received at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington Street, Saint Thomas on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the Dixon-Garland Funeral Home, 166 Main Street North, Markham on Monday at 1 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. After a life of service to family and Friends, Laura Olivia SHAW (née HAWES) departed the body at Parkwood Hospital on Wednesday, May 11th, 2005 in her 94th year. Beloved wife of the late Mr. Charles Arthur SHAW (1977.) Loving mother of Virginia WOOD and her late husband Keith and Sandra MORRIS. Dear grandmother of Laura GRAY/GREY (John,) Dale WOOD (Christine,) Lynda JACKSON, Shirley MORRIS, Edward MORRIS, Celia MORRIS, Eva MORRIS (Allen VON BARGEN, Christina FOWLER (Neil.) Great-grandmother of 23 and great-great-grandmother of 5. Also survived by sister Virginia ALWINE. Will be missed by many family and Friends. Predeceased by daughters Eloise SHAW and Beverly NEFF. At Laura's request, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Laura's life will take place at a later date.
