ADRIAN,
Douglas
Reid
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our
beloved husband, father, and grandfather during the early hours
of January 31, 2005 after a courageous and dignified battle with
Cardiac Amyloidosis / Multiple Myeloma. Doug is mourned by his
beloved wife of 50 years and best friend Diana; his cherished
son Stephen of Vancouver, British Columbia; his treasured daughter
Elizabeth; adorable granddaughters Evelyn and Katharine; and
son-in-law Bill
McMULLEN, all of Boston, Massachusetts. He will
be deeply missed by his devoted mother Mabel of Ottawa, Ontario
and his loving brothers Philip of Burlington, Ontario and Richard
of Chelsea, Québec. Doug was predeceased by his infant daughter
Lynda Dale and father Robert Stanley. Doug was born in Hamilton,
Ontario November 26, 1930 where at an early age his athletic
abilities were recognized. Doug moved to Montreal, Québec where
he quickly established himself as a dominant force in the sports
in which he participated. Upon graduation, he played his favourite
sport, football, in the Canadian Football League as a member
of the Edmonton Eskimos. His professional football career, shortened
by permanent injury, Doug began his business career with Royal
McBee / Litton Industries where he remained for the next 25 successful
years. Since 1971, Doug resided in West Vancouver, British Columbia
where he enjoyed many years as an executive with Great West Steel
/ GWIL
Industries.
During this time Doug was a very active member
of Hollyburn Country Club, both athletically and socially. Upon
retirement in 1994, Doug became a winter resident of Naples,
Florida where he exercised his passion for golf as a member of
Imperial Golf Club. He also contributed his time towards the
betterment of the community as President of the Wedgefield of
Naples Homeowners Association. Travel with his wife to farreaching
locations around the world was one of his personal pleasures.
During his life, he volunteered his time to amateur sports through
coaching, counselling and refereeing. Doug's sense of humour
and genuine concern for others made a difference in people's
lives. He will be sorely missed by his many Friends and family.
We wish to thank the team of doctors at Vancouver General Hospital,
especially Dr. Clayton A. Smith, Director of Hematology and his
dedicated staff. Also, Dr. H. Thomas Peters and his wonderful
staff. Heartfelt thanks to the extraordinary doctors, nurses
and volunteers of the palliative care unit at Lions Gate Hospital.
At Doug's request, a private family gathering will be held at
a later date in Ottawa, Ontario. A memorial gift in Doug's name
can be made to the Vancouver General Hospital and University
of British Columbia Hospital Foundation for Leukemia / B.M.T.
