After serving in the Royal Canadian Navy in World War 2 as a Chief Petty Officer, Nels returned to Canada and hired on as a C.N. wireless telegraphist and train dispatcher. He met and married Jean Eleanor HAMILTON in Sudbury in 1947 and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary together with family and Friends.
