Police probe biker's death
By Randy RICHMOND and Jane SIMS, Free Press Reporters
A well-known member of the Hells Angels in London and a constant thorn in the side of police has died, apparently hanged in a shed at his Melbourne home. Marty ZAGER, 39, was found dead early Saturday morning in an outbuilding at the south end of his property on Melbourne Road.
ZAGER was "a dominant personality in the London area as far as the Hells Angels," Det. Staff Sgt. Scott Mills of the provincial Ontario Provincial Police biker enforcement unit said yesterday.
"He's been a person of interest of the biker enforcement unit for years."
Police would not confirm the details of ZAGER's death yesterday, but several sources said he died from hanging.
Middlesex Ontario Provincial Police Const. Doug GRAHAM said police are investigating ZAGER's sudden death.
A family member found him before calling 911 at 12: 08 a.m. Saturday, police said.
An autopsy was ordered.
ZAGER had helped run the Beef Baron strip club in London, then owned several body-rub parlours in the area.
After brushes with the law and city council over the body rub parlours, ZAGER left that business and focused on his tattoo parlours, Hardcore Tattoos and Piercings, in London and Port Stanley.
ZAGER joined the Hells Angels a few years ago, rising in the ranks as the local club struggled to exist. He was apparently a good friend to London president Bill MILLER and some sources suggest ZAGER ran the club at times.
Meanwhile, he maintained a sprawling family home shared with his wife, Veronica, three children, several dogs, cats and an iguana.
"We're just like everybody else," Veronica ZAGER told The Free Press two years ago.
Police accused the two of laundering millions of dollars from their businesses to the Hells Angels.
"We wish somebody would tell me where it is so we could at least enjoy it," Veronica ZAGER said at the time.
She could not be reached for comment yesterday.
The door to the two-storey, brown brick home was answered by a friend who said little except that the family was hurting.
An employee at Hard Core Tattoo on Richmond Street would say only the business would continue.
Hells Angels spokesperson Donny PETERSON in Toronto wouldn't comment on ZAGER's death and no one answered the door at the London clubhouse.
ZAGER was never one to shy away from the public eye.
He and his wife filed a $3-million lawsuit against London, provincial and federal police in 2003, claiming police negligence, malicious prosecution and the breach of their Charter rights over drug and conspiracy charges that were eventually withdrawn.
ZAGER also refused to stop wearing his vest emblazoned with the Hells Angels emblem, despite the legal troubles it brought him.
Neighbours on Melbourne Road described ZAGER yesterday as a pleasant, helpful man.
"He was one of the best neighbours I ever had," said Fred ALBERT, who lived across from ZAGER.
"Before, we used to have break-ins here. When he moved in, they just stopped."
ZAGER often would come over and plow out ALBERT's lane without being asked and without asking for anything in return, he said.
Another neighbour said ZAGER often had parties with bikers at his house, but nothing bad ever happened.
"I am very surprised," John ALBERT said.
"Nothing ever happened there."

LARSON, Ted (né Tadeusz ZAGOZDZON)
former President and Chief Executive Officer Borden Canada After a brief battle with cancer, Ted LARSON died peacefully, with his family at his side, on Tuesday, May 10, 2005, bringing to an end a rich and fulfilling life. His accomplishments were many, both in family and business. He leaves behind a loving family and many close, long-time Friends. Born Tadeusz ZAGOZDZON in Druskieniki, (Lithuania) in 1921 to parents Adela and Henryk, Ted left his family in 1939, narrowly escaping the invading forces. He made his way across Europe and eventually to England. Once there, he joined the 1st Polish Armored Division, which shortly after the Normandy invasion was dispatched to France to operate as a part of the 1st Canadian Army. In the ensuing battles with the retreating German forces, Ted was injured, and spent months recovering in hospital in Scotland. He returned to active service to discover that many of his close Friends had not survived the campaign. During his service, Ted distinguished himself both in the field of battle and in training exercises and was highly decorated. With the end of the war, Ted resigned from the military with the rank of Lieutenant, (later raised to Major). Ted graduated from Stockholm Technical Institute in Sweden with a B.S.c in Applied Chemistry. It was in Sweden that he met his first wife, Elsie LARSON. They married and several years later, Ted, Elsie and their 2 year-old daughter, Christina, emigrated to Canada. Ted (who had changed his last name to LARSON) was able to find work, and within a few years joined Borden Chemical Canada, a division of Borden, Inc. as a chemist, then technical director, vice president and finally President and Chief Executive Officer of Borden Canada. His contribution to the chemical industry earned him a lifetime fellowship designation with the Chemical Institute of Canada. He was also a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Military Institute, a member of the Royal Canadian Yacht Club and numerous other associations. Ted retired in 1987 after 32 years with the company. During his tenure as Chief Executive Officer, Borden achieved record growth and profits. In 1962, Elsie died of cancer, leaving Ted to raise 13 year-old Christina and 3 year-old Anna on his own. Several years later he met Mary SPILLER. Mary and Ted married, and with the marriage, the family grew to five with the addition of Mary's son John. Ted and Mary were soon blessed with a second son, Ted LARSON, Junior. A voracious reader who could converse fluently in a half-dozen languages, Ted was renowned for his intelligence, sharp wit and encyclopedic knowledge of history, world events, and management philosophies and techniques. He'll be greatly missed by his wife, Mary; his children, Christina, Anna, John and Ted; their spouses, Phil, Joe, Mary Beth and Julie; his grandchildren, Serge, Carl, Ben, Emma, Katrina, Ella, Laura and Matty; his Aunt Maria, sisters Alicia, Zosia and Barbara and many other relatives in Poland. He will also be missed by the many Friends he made over the years in the chemical industry, in business, socially, and in the Lake Kashwakamak cottage community. A memorial service will be held for Ted at Saint Margaret's-inthe-Pines Anglican Church, 4130 Lawrence Ave. East, Scarborough, On., on Friday, May 13 at 11: 00 a.m. Visitation at the church from 9: 30 a.m. Friends are invited back to the family home following the service to celebrate Ted's life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rouge Valley Health System Foundation in recognition of Dr. SWAN.

Scarborough man charged in woman's fatal stabbing
By Jeff GRAY/GREY, With a report from Caroline ALPHONSO, Monday, January 3, 2005 - Page A10
A Scarborough man faces a second-degree murder charge after a woman was found dead in her home on New Year's Day.
Jacek ZAJACZKOWSKI, 45, appeared in court at Old City Hall yesterday.
He was arrested after police were called to townhouse near McCowan Road and Eglinton Avenue East, where they found the body of a woman.
A postmortem examination of the victim was conducted yesterday.
In a statement last night, police revealed that Krystyna ZAJACZKOWSKA, 44, died from multiple stab wounds sustained to her neck and torso.
Police reportedly believe that Ms. ZAJACZKOWSKA was killed on New Year's Eve.
Television pictures showed investigators wheeling the body, draped in black, out of the home's front door on New Year's Day.
Icicle-style Christmas lights hung across the doorway.
One neighbour told reporters that police had been previously called to the address, on Castethorpe Drive, in the summer and that a man had been taken away in handcuffs.
A family of four is said to live in the home: a couple and two daughters.
One daughter is in her 20s and the other in her teens.

LINDO, William Joseph " Bill" (1921-2005)
Passed away peacefully at home, Wednesday January 13, 2005, following a lengthy illness. He is survived by his devoted wife Bernice, his loving sister, Margaret McCULLOUGH, and his 7 children, Lorraine HENNESSEY, Eleanore, Elaine, Marion ZAKOS (Kingston), Christine MILCAWICH, Peter, and Marguerite. He was proud and delighted to have 15 grandchildren. Nothing was more important to him than his family. Bill often said his greatest accomplishment was his marriage to Bernice. Through her loving care and unwavering courage, he was able to live out his final months as he so dearly wished, at home, surrounded by those whom he loved, and who loved him most. As a successful entrepreneur, Bill created several manufacturing enterprises involving a wide range of products from the first artificial fire logs in Canada to windshield wiper antifreeze. His flagship company, TML Industries Ltd., the second largest can manufacturing business in Canada, continues as his legacy, operated by his son Peter, and daughters Christine and Marguerite. He also leaves behind his last venture, a fledgling start-up - Dr. Maggie Pet Food Supplements - operated by daughter Elaine. Much of his success was due to the personal integrity and concern for others that he brought to all his business dealings. His longtime business partner, Joe WOMERSLEY remained a lifelong steadfast friend as did countless colleagues, customers and employees. Bill was an exceptional athlete throughout his life. He especially distinguished himself as a senior marathon runner and triathlete, competing for the Canadian National Team in the World Champion Triathlon in 1993 at the age of 72. His stamina and dedication to physical fitness were amazing and inspirational, particularly to those who knew him as a denizen of the Willowdale Fitness Institute where he was a member for over 30 years. All of us who were privileged to know him through business, sports, or on a personal level, were touched by his generosity of spirit, his love of people, animals, nature, music, and his unbounded enthusiasm for life. We will remember him in so many ways for so much that we shared - the illuminating ideas, the smiles, the songs, the moments full of love and hope and striving, the triumphs and failures that made up his meaningful and cherished life. The family welcomes Friends to celebrate Bill LINDO's life at a memorial service to be held at the Scarborough Golf and Country Club, 321 Scarborough Golf Club Rd., (Kingston Rd. east of Markham Rd.) on Sunday, January 16 from 1-4 p.m. In lieu of a formal eulogy, those who wish to, may relate their favorite memories of life with Bill. Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the Canadian Cancer Society.
