Mary Angela CALLAGHAN (FORRISTAL.) Died peacefully on July 10, 2005, in her 98th year at Mount Hope Centre for Long Term Care in London, Ontario. Angela was born in London on December 19, 1907, the daughter of the late Michael Francis and Mary FORRISTAL. She attended St. Angela's Academy, Ursuline College ("The Pines") and Brescia College, University of Western Ontario. Following her graduation in 1929, Angela worked as a librarian at the London Public Library until her marriage to Dr. Vincent CALLAGHAN in 1936. She then embarked on her second career as wife and mother and raised seven children. Beloved wife of the late Vincent Ambrose CALLAGHAN (1965.) Dear mother of Brenda (Hans BERETTA,) Paul, Vincent (Susan), Angela (Paul DI MARCO), Mary Ellen, John (Linda) and Claire (James McDERMOTT.) Peacefully and surrounded by her family on Sunday, January 16, 2005 at the Elizabeth Bruyère Hospital, Ottawa, Ontario following a short and courageous battle with cancer. Resident of Lachute, Quebec and formerly Town of Mount Royal, Montreal, Quebec. Beloved wife and best friend of Gordon McGIBBON. Loving mother of Blair (Liz MacLEOD) of Toronto, Ontario and Gayle (Pete SCRIVENS) of Ottawa, Ontario. Proud grandmother of William SCRIVENS. Also survived by her sisters Frances WATSON (Bev) of Ottawa, Ontario and Marlene MASLECK (Ron) of Toronto, Ontario. Willa was an active participant in life. She will be remembered fondly for her incredibly generous spirit, sense of compassion and endless support of family and Friends. She always showed a genuine interest in the lives of others. She will be sadly missed. Age 82, in Halifax, passed away suddenly on Saturday, March 5, 2005 in the Coronary Care Unit, Queen Elizabeth 2nd, Halifax. Born on July 21, 1922 in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Ronald Hugh and Annie (JOHNSON) MacDONALD. Hugh was a Veteran of the Second World War in which he served overseas as an officer. When he returned he studied medicine at Dalhousie University and practiced as a neurologist for many years in Halifax. He retired in 1997 and since 1998 resided at the Veterans' Memorial Building in Halifax. He will be greatly missed by his daughter Barbara (Douglas DEACON) MacDONALD and son Dr. David (Grazia GALLI) MacDONALD; grandchildren Jennifer and Kate MacDONALD and Jonas, Hélène and Rob DEACON; great-granddaughter Marion Elizabeth DEACON; sisters Edith MacGIBBON and Laura POOLE; and many special nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Angus, sisters Tena McKILLOP and Gladys FIOLEK, and his granddaughter Marion DEACON. No visitation or flowers by his request. A Memorial Service will be held at Snow Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 19. Andrew Fredrick of Saint Thomas, on Sunday, March 6, 2005, at St. Thomas, in his 77th year. Andy was born in Westminster Township on May 17, 1928, the son of the late Duncan and Mabel BEGG) McGILL. Dear brother of the late Murray, Donald and Duncan McGILL. Andy dedicated 43 years to the elevator industry and he will be sadly missed by his Brothers in Local 90 of the International Union of Elevator Contractors. He was a man of integrity and total unselfishness and was loved by his Friends, co-pilot Leada, Randy WERNER, Jim and Velvette SANFORD and families and Chris, Janet and the gang at the Midtown. A private service was held at Andy's request with his ashes to be interred in South Park Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the charity of choice. Engineer born in Vancouver on March 27, 1905.
After growing up in Vancouver, she attended the University of Toronto where, in 1927, she was the first woman to graduate with a degree in electrical engineering. Later, she earned her masters in aeronautical engineering from the University of Michigan. In 1938, she became chief engineer at Fort William (now Thunder Bay), then a centre of aircraft manufacture. During the Second World War, she was responsible for production of military aircraft at Fort William and was also in charge of building the Canadian version of the Hawker Hurricane. In 1946, she became the first woman to represent Canada as an adviser to the United Nations International Civil Aviation Organization.

Bill McGILL spent career at the Star
'He was just a delight': co-worker

Bill McGILL loved people. A family man and a community man, he took great delight in forming relationships with other people, no matter what the context.
His son, Jamie McGILL, fondly recalls a father who loved people so much, he avoided using bank machines so he could go inside and chat with the teller.
"He loved to chat people up, he was very, very well loved by so many people. He had a wonderful ability to make people feel like they were truly special."
Said daughter Patti SMITH: "He was a capital 'G' good guy. He'd do anything for anybody. He really loved doing things for other people. That's a dying breed."
In a cruel irony, the heart that gave so freely to others would trouble him for much of his later life. On Thursday, it quietly gave out. He was 83.
McGILL loved his work, and spent his entire 41-year career working in various departments at the Toronto Star.
His affiliation with the newspaper began with a boyhood paper route, followed by a part-time office boy job during high school, Jamie said. Upon graduation, he joined the Air Force and fought in World War 2.
After the war, he rejoined the Star, working in payroll before moving into display advertising.
He cherished the close-knit office and his relationships with co-workers and clients, Jamie said. "He was very proud (that) the work he did was about relationships with other people."
His father was also proud to say he worked at the Star because the paper's ethics were in line with his strong social conscience, he added.
Bill CLARK, a long-time co-worker in advertising, recalls a hardworking, congenial friend who would good-humouredly shoot a steely glare before "just giving you this huge smile. He was just a delight to work with."
"Everyone that came in touch with him liked him very much," said Jim GILMOUR, another Star veteran, who worked with McGILL for more than 30 years. "He was a wonderful friend."
McGILL was dedicated to his community -- involving himself in his church, volunteering for Meals on Wheels and as a Boy Scout leader -- but was especially devoted to his family.
He adored his wife of 59 years, Margaret, and children David, Jamie and Patti, and doted on his nine grandchildren and one great-grand_son.
Other than his war service, McGILL stayed close to home, until he surprised his wife with two tickets to Bermuda on their 25th wedding anniversary. That trip sparked a passion for travel.
In addition to yearly trips to England, the couple visited every country in the Caribbean and fell in love with Barbados, visiting more than 30 times.
"Travelling was another opportunity to meet people," said Jamie, adding his father would strike up conversations in airport lounges, hotels or taxicabs. "He established quite a large network of Friends that way."
GILMOUR spoke yesterday for many: "Those of us who are left will miss him very much."
The funeral is today at 11 a.m., Humbervale United Church, 1447 Royal York Rd., Etobicoke.
