fruit orchards with his wife. Born in Burlington, Ontario, he
also resided in Oakville and Stoney Creek. He was co-founder
of the Junior Sailing Schools at both B.H.Y.C. and B.S.B.C. and
involved in the volunteer program T.O.W.A.R.F. His love of sailing
was followed by flying and travel with Dinah in the motorhome
that he built. As per Edgar's wishes, cremation has taken place
and there will be no visitation or funeral. His ashes will be
placed in Appleby Cemetery, Burlington, Ontario.

passed peacefully Friday, August 19, 2005 in Newmarket, Ontario.
He is predeceased by his brother, Arthur. A dearly beloved and
adored husband and father, he is survived by his wife, Olga,
and seven children, Alan, Archie, Susan, Natalie, Christine,
Rosemary and Eve, seven grandchildren and three great grand_sons.
Sidney was born August 7, 1920 in London, England. At the young
age of 17, he joined the British army and rose to the rank of
Major. A decorated World War 2 veteran mentioned in Despatch
as a result of his action with the Greek Mountain Brigade and
his action in Egypt, Sidney served with the Queen's Royal Regiment,
Eighth Army. He first fought in France and Belgium, and was one
of lucky few evacuated at Dunkirk. He went on to fight in North
Africa for two years, then was selected for officer training
and sent to Palestine where he distinguished himself as the top
cadet and received the award of the Sam Brown from the King of
Jordan. In 1943 he was redeployed to Italy where he fought in
the battle of Monte Casino. After this decisive battle he was
sent to Greece where he again distinguished himself and was promoted
to Town Major of Thebes and Calcas, and was presented with the
Greek Order of Merit by the King of Greece. Other wartime accolades
include the title of Eighth Army welterweight boxing champion.
After the war he rejoined Dolcis Shoe Company where he had worked
as a stock boy before joining the army. In 1951 he immigrated
to Canada to work for Dolcis and then Bally Canada serving as
President and General Manager for 20 years and retiring in 1986.
A natural born leader with a strong sense of duty, humility and
a joy for life, Sidney was admired and respected by many. An
outdoor enthusiast, some of his happiest times were spent fishing
and vacationing in Northern Ontario.

Funeral service will be held in Mary Magdalene Anglican Church,
