McGEE,
Bernard, 1991 -- Died This Day
Tuesday, July 19, 2005, Page S9
Businessman and clothing designer born in Ottawa in 1953.
After attending Ridgemont High School in Ottawa, he moved to
Toronto to study fashion design at Humber College. It was there
that he met Shelley
WICKABROD, his future wife and business partner.
In 1978, they founded Clotheslines Inc. Although based in Toronto,
the company was renowned throughout Canada for impeccably tailored
women's clothing. The Clotheslines trench coat was recognized
internationally and became a powerful symbol for the company
and for the Canadian fashion industry. Clotheslines also had
a far-reaching influence on younger Canadian designers. It was
the first Canadian company to design, manufacture and sell its
own clothing. The company had a boutique in the upscale Bloor
Street fashion district of Toronto and was highly supportive
of a homegrown industry. Known to be strong-willed and opinionated,
he closed the Bloor Street boutique in 1990 to protest against
the 7-per-cent goods and services tax. It reopened a few months
later. He died of a brain hemorrhage.

PHELPS,
Robert
James
With family members at his side, Bob passed away peacefully on
January 26, 2005. Bob faced his final days as he had led his
entire life with dignity, grace and elegance. He was a true gentleman.
Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, March 27, 1919, he spent his formative
years in London, England. During World War 2, he served with
the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve as a lieutenant. At the War's
end Bob and his great Friends Denis
DAINES and Leonard "Wick"
WICKENS set out to find fame and fortune in Montreal.
On August 9, 1947 he swept down to Westbury, Long Island, the
home of his sister Louise, to marry the love of his life, Renee
GOODING, a very attractive nurse he had courted and fallen in
love with in London. The newlyweds set off on their 58 year storybook
journey in Montreal, where Bob established a career in the Heavy
Construction Equipment industry, and daughter Patricia (Pip)
was born. Advancements in Bob's career took the family across
Southern Ontario - Chatham where son Clifton and daughter Zoë
were born, Oakville and finally London in 1960. Shortly after
he retired in 1988 Bob and Renee moved to the West Coast to be
closer to their children and grandchild who were now living in
Vancouver.
Bob will be remembered for his devotion to family, zest for life
and wonderful sense of humour. Holiday gatherings were very special
to him. He was a charming host and his creative gift giving and
special breakfasts are legendary. And of course his music - he
was a jazz aficionado and a splendid dancer.
Bob was predeceased by his brother Walter "Wag"
PHELPS and will
be remembered with great love and affection by his beloved wife
Renee, his children Patricia, Clifton (Anita) and Zoë (Wayne),
grandchildren Emily, Devon, Mackenzie, Jamie and Graydon, his
sister Louise
SIMONSON, nieces and nephews and many Friends around
the world. Bob, Daddy, Grampie.... Happy Trails.
The family wishes to extend a warm thank you to Dr. Will Johnston,
his associates, and Dr. Ewa Wajtowska for their care, compassion
and Friendship. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated

WICKERT,
Kurt
Johan
"In the final days of summer's twilight, God saw that Dad was
getting tired, so He took him home to be with Mom" It is with
deep sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Kurt
Johan WICKERT, on August 26, 2005, at University Hospital in
London, Ontario, at the age of 85 years. Kurt was born in Kassel,
Germany on February 16, 1920. He served with the German Navy
during World War 2, where he was taken as prisoner of war to
a bush camp in Northern Ontario. During his brief stay in Canada,
he fell in love with the beauty of this country and returned
to Canada following the war. His future wife, Ruth, followed
him to Canada and they were married in Kenora, Ontario in 1953,
where they lived before moving to Kitchener, Ontario. Following
the birth of their first child, daughter Susan, the family left
Kitchener and moved to Thunder Bay, Ontario, where their second
child, son Glenn, was born. Kurt worked at Abitibi Provincial
Pulp and Paper Mill in Thunder Bay until his retirement in 1985.
In 1990, Kurt and Ruth left Thunder Bay and moved to Vernon,
British Columbia. Sadly, their life together in Vernon was too
short, as Kurt lost his wife Ruth in 1993, one day after their
40th wedding anniversary. Kurt remained in Vernon until 2003
when he moved to London, Ontario to be near his children. His
final years were spent lovingly surrounded by his two children
and three grandchildren. Kurt will be deeply missed by his daughter
Susan in Cambridge, Ontario and son and daughter-in-law, Glenn
and Yvette and grandchildren Jaylen, Jacob and Julia in London,
Ontario. Kurt was predeceased by wife Ruth in 1993 as well as
his parents and sister in Germany. Kurt will also be lovingly
remembered by many, many Friends in Kitchener, Thunder Bay, Vernon
and all across Canada, the U.S.A. and Germany. The family would
like to thank the staff at Meadowcroft Place for their excellent
care of Dad during his stay, and the nurses and staff of the
4th and 7th floors at University Hospital for their care and
understanding during our difficult time. At Dad's request, there
will be no funeral. Cremation has taken place and Dad will be
laid to rest beside Mom at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, in Vernon,
British Columbia on October 1st, 2005. Graveside service only.
The family also would like to thank London Cremation Services
and Bethel Funeral Home in Vernon for their assistance with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers please make donations in Kurt's memory to
the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer Society
of Canada.
