Peacefully at his residence on December 28, 2004 in his 81st year. Survived by his wife Audrey Joan, his children Andrew BLAIR, Christine BALL (Lyle,) and Gregory KEATING (Hazel) and stepchildren Frank VERA Jr. (Bea), Kristina PROVINES (Michael), Kevin VERA, Timm VERA (Donna) and Scott VERA. He is also survived by his brother Ross (Jean), nephew Kenneth, nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Andrew served as a fighter pilot during World War 2 and was the first president of the Maple Leaf Wing of the Royal Canadian Air Force Association in Montreal. After the war, he entered the shoe business, employed for many years at Savage Shoes Ltd. of Preston which he left as Vice President to start his own manufacturing company, Andrew McNiece Ltd. also of Preston. At his request there is no visitation and cremation has taken place. In his memory, a reception for family and Friends will be held at the Galt Country Club from 2-4 p.m. on January 21, 2005. Peacefully in Toronto on Thursday, April 7, 2005 in her 41st year. Survived by her loving parents Ericah and Lambert GWETAI and brother Tafadzwa and grandmother Eugenia, all of Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. She is also survived by her husband John JOSE of Toronto. After completion of her PhD at York University she authored five novels and a collection of stories which have been translated into ten languages. Among her numerous awards are the Commonwealth Prize (Africa Region, 1997), the Swedish Voice of Africa Award (1999), the MacMillan Writers' Prize for Africa (2002), the Premio Feronia-Citta di Fiano (2003,) and the Swedish PEN Tucholsky Prize (2004). A funeral service was held at the Morley Bedford Funeral Home, Toronto, and memorial services will be held in England and Zimbabwe at a later date. In Yvonne's memory, memorial contributions to PEN Canada would be appreciated.

Blanche (VERSTRAETEN) MATTHYNSSENS (Delhi) passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital on Sunday, February 13, 2005, in her 94th year. Blanche was born in San Antonio, Texas on December 17th, 1911. She was a member of the Saint Mary's Church, the C.W.L., Tillsonburg, and Sacred Heart Church, Langton and also a member of the Delhi Belgian Club. Together with her husband Albert, she farmed tobacco for several years at R.R.#1 Delhi.
Loving mother and mother-in-law of: Diana and Noël GHESQUIERE, Tillsonburg; Anita and Dr. David HILLNER, Tillsonburg and Ginny VERSTRAETEN, South River. Blanche was proud to be called "Meme" by her grandchildren Dan and Liz VERSTRAETEN, Marc VERSTRAETEN and Liz, Linda and Gary MATTAN, Wendy and David HOLMES, Michael and Deana GHESQUIERE, Marc and Jennifer HILLNER, Bonnie and Billy GAGNON and Tammy GODDEN and Roger. She was predeceased by her parents Abel VAN DE VYVER and Clementina BLANCQUAERT and by her first husband Roger VERSTRAETEN (1945,) her second husband Albert MATTHYNSSENS (1990) and recently by her son Marcel VERSTRAETEN (February 4, 2005); she was also predeceased by her four sisters: Aline (Jean) VAN DEN BROECK, Yvonne (Albert) MICHIELSON, Margaret (Philemon) BOEL, Elza (Albert) BRAECKE and a niece Rosita VERBOVEN. It is with great sorrow that the family announces the passing of Lois Jean SMITH, of London, on Wednesday, June 15, 2005 in her 52nd year at St. Joseph's Hospital, London after a courageous battle against cancer. Beloved daughter of Patricia SMITH and the late Charles SMITH. Cherished and much loved mother to son Chris VERBRUGGE (Suzanne) and son Jamie VERBRUGGE (Lisa) and daughter Angélique VERBRUGGE, as well as her dog Yoda. Predeceased by her son Patrick VERBRUGGE and her brother David SMITH. Also survived by her brother Lance SMITH (Carol,) sister Anna OLIVER (Fulton) and Liz BROOKS and brother Charlie SMITH (Laurie,) her cherished friend Betty PRYCE as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was a long time employee of Cami Automotive. Lois was a loving mother and will be greatly missed by all. Funeral services will be held from the Chapel of the D.J. Robb Funeral Home (102 N. VERSTER and mother of Ottoline (Ed) VERBURG, Bronno Jan (Ria) DEHAAN, Marguerite DEHAAN and Antonetta (Winston) DOES, all of the Netherlands. Also survived by nine granddaughters.

Father of Eddie PATTYN and his partner Isle RATZ of Barrie, Lillian WHITE/WHYTE of Toronto, and Melinda STEFAN and her husband Mike of Delhi. Stepfather of Rick VERCAIGNE and his wife Annett of Saint Thomas. Also survived by several grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, a sister-in-law, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by three brothers. Born in Ingelmunster, Belgium, June 6, 1919, son of the late Petrus and Celina (DEBOUVERE) PATTYN, he came to Canada in 1955. Mr. PATTYN was a retired employee of Flex-O-Lite, Saint Thomas. She was the daughter of the late Franciscus and Maria VAN OPSTAL. Predeceased by her husband Albert, September 15, 1996, her daughter Christine, January 16, 1953, her sisters Martha VAN EYK, and Bertha VERCAMMEN and brother Joseph VAN OPSTAL, all from Belgium. She was the last surviving member of her family. Dear mother of Jose COZYN and her husband Bill of Stratford, Arthur and his wife Muriel of Wiarton, Susan VEITCH and her husband Bill of London. Dear grandmother of Martin COZYN (Kathy,) Linda COZYN (Rick), Aimee VEREECKE (Bryan), Laura VEREECKE (Ned), Brigette VEREECKE, Kyle, Amanda and Nicholaus VEITCH. Devoted husband and best friend of Mary Sue. Loving father of Dian Berta (Cory VERCH,) Louise (Kevin) BERTA- OLDHAM, Sheri (Russell) WILLIAMS. Proud grandfather of Todd, Beth, Tyler, Maggie and Abigail. Brother of Irene (Doug) CLARK, Nora VINCENT and the late Kay (Gabe) SINCLAIR. Lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews. Many thanks to the wonderful nurses and palliative care staff at the Ottawa Civic Hospital whose support and guidance were greatly appreciated. He leaves behind many Friends in the Killaloe/Barry's Bay area where he enjoyed his retirement years. He was well known for his beautiful gardens, his special love of cats and his ceaseless energy for improving his much loved ranch/home. He was a man with a big heart that will be sadly missed. Of Chatham and formerly of Guilds passed away peacefully at the Chatham Kent Health Alliance surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, September 3, 2005. She was born near Guilds where she resided most of her life on the family farm and is the daughter of the late Jonathan Bentley and Mabel WALTERS. Lillian is survived by her beloved husband George MONETTE; loving daughter Dorothy O'MALLEY and husband Tom of Brights Grove; son John CLARKE and wife Glenda of Guilds; granddaughters Paula FRAPPIER and Jamie, Windsor; Lori VERCOUTEREN and Paul of Guilds. Her first husband James CLARKE died in 1984. Lillian served on the Harwich Township council for a number of years before becoming Deputy Reeve and a member of Kent County Council; a member of the New Scotland United Church and a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star. In her late years she enjoyed spending her winter at Lake Worth and Sebring areas of Florida. A private family funeral service was held Monday at the J.L. Ford Funeral Home in Blenheim with Rev.
