TURNBULL, Mary Elizabeth (née GREGORY)
Peacefully at age 77, with her family at her side, on Wednesday, February 2, 2005, in Toronto. Loving wife and cherished soul mate to George for 55 years. Mary was the dear mother of Deborah, Greg (Julia), Tim (Christine) and Ruth SCULLY (Rick). She was the caring, loving and generous Grandma and Numa to her grandchildren: George 'Sam' and Serey; Tyler, Lauren and Fraser; Matthew and Megan; Mary Sarah and Adam. Mary also leaves her sisters Ruth GREGORY, Jo Ann (Robert) WOODS and Carol (Nicol) MacNICOL, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Windsor by the late Harold Moore GREGORY and Florence Hanes GREGORY. Mary graduated in English at the University of Western Ontario in 1948. While she was attracted to pursue a teaching career, she turned her full attention to family after marrying George in 1950. Together they raised a family which carries on her example of interest in literature, the arts, travel, conversation, fine wine and Friends. A kind, gentle woman who was always a lady, she taught her family to respect and share with each other. Her philanthropic activities included support for the arts, university scholarships and medical research. Mary was active in church and community organizations, investment and book clubs, playing bridge, gourmet cooking and enjoying each day as it came. She and George were great travellers, particularly in retirement, exploring the world, making new Friends, and bringing back new stories to tell their grandchildren. Her twinkling eyes, squeeze of the hand and warm smile will be sadly missed.
