later years while dealing with cancer, he lived his life with

He maintained the veterans section of South Park Cemetery and
received a civic award from the City of Saint Thomas for his effort.

Bill graduated from Saint Thomas Collegiate Institute and then
attended McMaster University. He served in the Royal Canadian
Air Force during World War 2 overseas and in the Canadian Arctic.
After the War he joined Bell Telephone Company of Canada and
retired after 36 years of service in successively higher management
positions in London, Montreal, St. Catharines, Hamilton and Toronto.
He was a devoted member of the Anglican Church and served as
Church Warden at Trinity in Saint Thomas, Saint Martin-in-the-Fields
in London, Grace Anglican in St. Catharines and the Acension
Anglican Church in Hamilton. The family will receive Friends
at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin Street, Saint Thomas on Tuesday

was also the Campaign chairperson for the United Way in Oakville,
Welland, Ontario and Reidsville, North Carolina, James was also
a Sponsor and Mentor of the Richard Ivy School of Business, Western
University, E.M.B.A. and was awarded the Corporate Citizen of
the year by the Reidsville, North Carolina Chamber of Commerce
in 1999. He was the owner of Color Your World on Hespeler Road,
Cambridge. At James request, cremation has taken place. In memory
of James, donations to the Children's Wish Foundation would be

hip. He was born on April 8, 1921, the

THORPE of Saint Thomas. Predeceased by 3 siblings
in their childhood. Loved husband of 62 years of Virginia Ruth
(THOMPSON/THOMSON/TOMPSON/TOMSON) and dear father of Dr. William (Jennie
CARSWELL) of
Saint Thomas, Timothy (Susan) of Calgary, Anthony (Rita) of St.
Catharines and Dr. John (Elaine) of Simcoe. Loving grandfather
of Emma, Heather, Joelle, Robert, Jennifer, Julia, Danielle,
Erica, Adrienne, Patrick and Gillian, as well as 3 great grandchildren.
Bill graduated from Saint Thomas Collegiate Institute and then
attended McMaster University. He served in the Royal Canadian
Air Force during World War 2 overseas and in the Canadian Arctic.
After the War he joined Bell Telephone Company of Canada and
retired after 36 years of service in successively higher management
positions in London, Montreal, St. Catharines, Hamilton and Toronto.
He was a devoted member of the Anglican Church and served as
Church Warden at Trinity in Saint Thomas, Saint Martin-in-the-Fields
in London, Grace Anglican in St. Catharines and the Acension
Anglican Church in Hamilton. The family will receive Friends
at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin Street, Saint Thomas on Tuesday
from 2: 30 to 4:30 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service to be held
at Trinity Anglican Church on Wednesday at 2: 00 p.m. Cremation
has taken place with private interment of the ashes. Flowers
gratefully declined. The family would appreciate remembrances
