Mac was a former Tool and Die Maker with Waltec Engineering and was an avid fisherman, gardener, hunter and world traveller. He was the son of the late Violet (McINTYRE) and Basil FURTAH. Beloved husband of Connie (Eve). Loving father and father-in-law of Ellen and Leigh THORNTON, Cheryl and Neil FRALEIGH and April and Paul COUNTRYMAN. Peacefully, with his loving family by his side, June 28, 2005, Steve LAUR lost his courageous battle with cancer at the age of 63. Loving husband of 44 years to Betty Anne (THORNTON) LAUR. Devoted father of Michael and Debbie LAUR and Stephanie and Darcy GRANT. Cherished psychotic grandfather of Lindsay, Emily, Alyssa and Cassie. Survived by his mother Grace LAUR, his sister Jennifer and husband Ed, his brothers Ross and wife Linda, Dave and wife Marg, and Dale and wife Diane, and by his mother-in-law Marguerite THORNTON. Steve also had many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, but will be especially missed by nieces Janis THOM and Deb HOLLAND and their families. Dear brother of Phyllis BRIDGER (Alfred) of England, David SMITH (Brenda) of England and the late Ozzie SMITH. Loved grandfather of Krista HARTLEY and partner Curtis SALTZBERRY of Fort Erie, Adrian HARTLEY of Trenton, Kimberley SMITH of England, and Michael and Becky SMITH of Monkstown, North Ireland. Herb was born in Deal, Kent, England on Ferbruary 24, 1926, the son of the late Samuel and Dorothy (AXON) SMITH. He worked as a welder, millright and after retiring worked at Zehr's. Herb served in the British Royal Navy (World War 2 veteran) and was a member of the Branch 41 of the Royal Canadian Legion, Elgin Regiment (Band member) and the Royal Navy Club, Deal, Kent, England. He maintained the veterans section of South Park Cemetery and received a civic award from the City of Saint Thomas for his effort. He was born on April 8, 1921, the son of the late William Alexander and Rose THORPE of Saint Thomas. Predeceased by 3 siblings in their childhood. Loved husband of 62 years of Virginia Ruth (THOMPSON/THOMSON/TOMPSON/TOMSON) and dear father of Dr. William (Jennie CARSWELL) of Saint Thomas, Timothy (Susan) of Calgary, Anthony (Rita) of St. Catharines and Dr. John (Elaine) of Simcoe. Loving grandfather of Emma, Heather, Joelle, Robert, Jennifer, Julia, Danielle, Erica, Adrienne, Patrick and Gillian, as well as 3 great grandchildren. Bill graduated from Saint Thomas Collegiate Institute and then attended McMaster University. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War 2 overseas and in the Canadian Arctic. After the War he joined Bell Telephone Company of Canada and retired after 36 years of service in successively higher management positions in London, Montreal, St. Catharines, Hamilton and Toronto. He was a devoted member of the Anglican Church and served as Church Warden at Trinity in Saint Thomas, Saint Martin-in-the-Fields in London, Grace Anglican in St. Catharines and the Acension Anglican Church in Hamilton. James was predeceased by his sister Margaret THORPE (2003) and her husband Vernon (2001) and his mother-in-law Agnes (Nessie) WILSON (2001.) James was president and Chief Executive Officer of B.T.R. Metzler Automotive and had his M.B.A. from Western in 2000 "Millennium Men" and was also the Campaign chairperson for the United Way in Oakville, Welland, Ontario and Reidsville, North Carolina, James was also a Sponsor and Mentor of the Richard Ivy School of Business, Western University, E.M.B.A. and was awarded the Corporate Citizen of the year by the Reidsville, North Carolina Chamber of Commerce in 1999. He was the owner of Color Your World on Hespeler Road, Cambridge. At James request, cremation has taken place. of London and formerly of Saint Thomas, at the Victoria Hospital, London, on August 27, 2005, following complications from a fractured hip. He was born on April 8, 1921, the son of the late William Alexander and Rose THORPE of Saint Thomas. Predeceased by 3 siblings in their childhood. Loved husband of 62 years of Virginia Ruth (THOMPSON/THOMSON/TOMPSON/TOMSON) and dear father of Dr. William (Jennie CARSWELL) of Saint Thomas, Timothy (Susan) of Calgary, Anthony (Rita) of St. Catharines and Dr. John (Elaine) of Simcoe. Loving grandfather of Emma, Heather, Joelle, Robert, Jennifer, Julia, Danielle, Erica, Adrienne, Patrick and Gillian, as well as 3 great grandchildren. Bill graduated from Saint Thomas Collegiate Institute and then attended McMaster University. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War 2 overseas and in the Canadian Arctic. After the War he joined Bell Telephone Company of Canada and retired after 36 years of service in successively higher management positions in London, Montreal, St. Catharines, Hamilton and Toronto. He was a devoted member of the Anglican Church and served as Church Warden at Trinity in Saint Thomas, Saint Martin-in-the-Fields in London, Grace Anglican in St. Catharines and the Acension Anglican Church in Hamilton. The family will receive Friends at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin Street, Saint Thomas on Tuesday from 2: 30 to 4:30 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service to be held at Trinity Anglican Church on Wednesday at 2: 00 p.m. Cremation has taken place with private interment of the ashes. Originally from Trinidad; recently retired from the Durham Board of Education as a Special Ed and Kindergarten Teacher. Peacefully and with great dignity, passed away at the Rouge Valley Health System, Ajax on April 16, 2005, surrounded by her loving family members. Bernice is survived by her mother, Marie POPE (of Trinidad) her children, Allison and John; 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and 3 brothers. She will be dearly missed by her beloved companion Paul KATSORAS. She is predeceased by her father Samuel POPE and her husband Milton THORPE. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Leone, his son Randall Alan, daughter Christine Leigh and his grand_sons Benjamin and Wil. Graduated from Ryerson Institute in 1957 with a degree in Metallurgical Technology. Tom was a long term employee of Microtel and Telus. At Tom's request there will be no service.
