SAS, Dr. George Robert
With great sadness, the family of Dr. George Robert SAS wish to announce his death on April 21, 2005. He was with his wife Louise and his children Leora, Jonathan, Emily and Robin. He struggled for 2½ years with a malignant brain tumor. George came to London from Montreal in 1975. George received his medical degree from McGill University and was a family doctor for 25 years. He was an Occupational Health Physician for St. Joseph's Hospital, 3M Canada and Kelloggs, as well as many other organizations. George was a wonderful husband and father, a true friend as well as a caring physician to his patients. His family mourns his loss with great sadness.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years and his adoring children Leora, Jonathan, Emily and Robin. He is also survived by his mother Elizabeth SAS from Montreal, his sister Magda BENEDEK and her husband Peter from Ottawa and his nephews Joey and Michael BENEDEK. The family wish to thank Dr. Catherine WALSH for her support and care, the nursing staff at Parkwood Palliative Unit, Paramed Homecare nurses, Anita STENNING and Kelly FAULDS. Funeral services at Or Shalom Synagogue on April 22 at 3 p.m. Interment to follow at Or Shalom Cemetery. Peacefully, on Friday, September 16, 2005, Ross STENSON, aged 95, at Kensington Gardens, Toronto. Ross was predeceased by his "bonnie" wife Jean STENSON (née WILLARD,) his partner, Catherine DUBOIS, and two of his beloved children, Willard Ross STENSON and Lynda CUSHING. He is survived by his dear sister, Verna STENSON of Montreal, and loving daughters Gail CARSON and Gloria BISHOP. Ross was the fond "Patron" of nine grandchildren: Allison BISHOP and Leith BISHOP (Glen WATSON); Dorothy CARSON (Rob CRABTREE), Melissa CARSON and Brennan CARSON (Sue); Stephan STENSON; and Ross CUSHING (Jen), Blake CUSHING (Holly), and Nicholas CUSHING. His nine great-grandchildren Shea and Trevor BISHOP- DUFFY, Hayley BISHOP, John, Megan and Blake CARSON, Duncan, Justin and Miranda CRABTREE gave him particular pleasure in his final years. A memorial service will be held in his beloved Montreal on October 6, when he will be remembered for his great integrity, fine piano-playing and bad puns.

He was a man of uncommon intelligence and curiosity, speaking nine languages and enjoying a library filled with books written in all of them. A passionate and gifted gardener, each year his family and neighbours relished his garden's bounty - especially tomatoes, pears, chives, garlic, and apricots. More than anything he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Rare is the man who is as generous in spirit and deed as was our Baba. Died at Kingston on June 20 2005 in his 91st year. son of the Rev. Dr. John W. STEPHEN and Helen (Brown) STEPHEN of Kingston. Predeceased by his sister Margaret Isabel STEPHEN and his brothers Lt. Col. Hugh M. STEPHEN, Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps, C.D., B.A., M.D. Queen's '27 World War 2, Korea and John G. STEPHEN, Queen's '32. Survived by his sister Helen BRAKAS and her husband Jonas, Sister in law Grace C. STEPHEN, Nephew Richard STEPHEN and his wife Paula and grand nephews Tamon M STEPHEN, B.Math, Ph.D. and Ricardo H. STEPHEN, B.Sc. and his wife Guinevere MURPHY, B.S., Ph.D.
He was commissioned in the Royal Canadian Air Force Equipment Branch early in 1938 and transferred to air crew in 1942. Following receipt of his pilot's wings in January 1943 he left for England and after training joined #427 (Lion) Squadron in 6 (Royal Canadian Air Force) Group, Royal Air Force Bomber command. Flying his first operations in November 1943 he completed his tour in August 1944 and then served on 6 Group Staff to the end of World War 2 in Europe. He then returned to Canada to train with the force being mustered in Okinawa to engage in the war against Japan. This force was disbanded with Japan's surrender.
After war service, he had assignments at Royal Canadian Air Force H.Q., Ottawa, the Canadian Joint Staff at our embassy in Washington, the Canadian Embassy in Moscow as Air Attaché (1950-1952), No. 1 Air Division H.Q., Metz, France and No. 1 Combat Operations Centre (North American Air Defence Command) at Royal Canadian Air Force Stn. St. Hubert, Quebec. He took early retirement from the Royal Canadian Air Force and was employed by Canadair Ltd., Montreal until age retirement in 1979.
After cremation his ashes will be buried in a private ceremony in the STEPHEN family plot in Cataraqui Cemetery.

Garnett taught at Monkland High School and Verdun High School in Montreal. In 1969 he came to Centennial College as Chairman of Academic Upgrading and remained in that department until his retirement in 1990. He and Nordra retired to Elliot Lake in 1991 where he established the Continuing Education Center for Adult Learning. He finally retired to Belleville, Ontario in 1999. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the Quinte Health Care Belleville General Hospital, the Kingston General Hospital and Dr. WIGLE for their outstanding care, compassion and support. Garnett was cremated following a private family service at Christ Church Anglican Church (Belleville, Ontario), on November 2, 2005. YOUNG, Richard George (April 19, 1911-May 11, 2005)
It is with sadness the family announces the passing of Richard George (Dick) YOUNG in his 95th year, at precisely 4: 30 p.m. at the Brant Centre, Burlington. We are thankful his passing was gentle and peaceful. Devoted husband of 54 years of the late Grace Elizabeth LINDSTROM (1996.) Cherished Dad of Tom and Maggie YOUNG (Scarborough,) Sheila YOUNG (Toronto) and Susan and Ross STEPHEN (Burlington.) Loved▲ and respected "Grandfather" of Jillian STEPHEN and her husband Allan FLETCHER, Richard YOUNG, Jennifer YOUNG, Jocelyn STEPHEN and Philip STEPHEN. Delighted Great-Grandfather of Kate FLETCHER. Predeceased by siblings overseas Nell, Art, Dib, Mais, Vi and Jack. Survived by his youngest brother, Stan (England). Dad immigrated to Canada in 1926 as a farmhand. Later he joined the Canadian National Railway working as a labourer, storekeeper, inspector and then Manager of Stores within the St. Lawrence Region. He was proud to be recruited by C.I.D.A. and pleased to spend the last 5 years of this 35-year career with C.N.R. as a consultant to the Zambian Railway, facilitating the development of the Purchasing and Stores Department, then retiring to Toronto in 1976. A "better than average" golfer he enjoyed the Zambian climate and the opportunity to golf 364 days a year. He always enjoyed family visits and wee Kate elicited special smiles. The family is grateful to Dr. Chris RAGONETTI and the staff at The Brant Centre for their care, compassion and respect throughout his stay. According to his expressed wishes there will be no funeral service. The family will receive Friends at the Morley Bedford Funeral Home, 159 Eglinton Ave. W. (2 stoplights west of Yonge St.), Toronto on Sunday, May 15, 2005 from 1: 00-4:30 p.m. Reverend Claudia ADAM/ADAMS will lead a time of prayer and remembrance for family and Friends at 4: 30 p.m. Flowers gratefully declined. Dad would have preferred a donation to the charity of your own choice. Dad was humourous and witty, and lived simply and responsibly, gave generously to others especially children's charities, enjoyed golf and music, and valued family above all else. "Grandfather" will be greatly missed. "With a hey nonny, nonny..."

Peacefully on Sunday, May 22, 2005 at Trillium Health Centre - Mississauga, at the age of 94. Beloved husband of the late Alice. Father of Fred, Diane and the late Carol and James. At Southlake Regional Health Centre, Newmarket, on Thursday, September 15, 2005. Margaret STEPHEN (née LOGUE,) born September 23, 1912 in Glasgow, Scotland, presently of Aurora and formerly of River Drive Park. She is predeceased by her beloved husband P. Ben STEPHEN, and survived by her loving daughter Barbara and her husband Norman RUMBLE of Aurora, and son Jim and his wife Shary of Williams Lake, British Columbia. She will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren Stephen RUMBLE, Heather and her husband Michael BEADLE, Kenneth RUMBLE and his wife Lynnette, Kimberley and her husband Jason DAVIS, Carmen and her husband Nilesh PATEL, and Philip STEPHEN, and 16 great-grandchildren. Survived by sisters Anne ROBBINS and Betty MILLIGAN and brother Alex LOGUE. Friends may call at the Roadhouse and Rose Funeral Home, 157 Main St. South, Newmarket, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday. STEPHEN, R.▲ Garnett▲
Of Belleville and formerly of Elliot Lake, after a lengthy illness, at Kingston General Hospital on October 26, 2005, in his 79th year. son of the late Robert and Eliza STEPHEN. Much▲ loved husband of Nordra. Dear father of Andrew (Erva LEE,) Bruce▲ (Consuelo▲) of Ottawa, and Jennifer (Chris) of Toronto. Predeceased by his brother Alexander "Jim" and by his sister Hazel STEPHEN. Garnett▲ attended McGill University, graduating in 1948 B.Sc. Hon., Teaching Diploma 1949, M.A. 1966. Garnett taught at Monkland High School and Verdun High School in Montreal. In 1969 he came to Centennial College as Chairman of Academic Upgrading and remained in that department until his retirement in 1990. He and Nordra retired to Elliot Lake in 1991 where he established the Continuing Education Centre for Adult Learning. He finally retired to Belleville, Ontario in 1999. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the Quinte Health Care Belleville General Hospital, the Kingston General Hospital and Dr. WIGLE for their outstanding care, compassion and support. Garnett was cremated following a private family service at Christ Church Anglican Church (Belleville, Ontario) on November 2, 2005. A memorial service is planned for Friends, colleagues and neighbours at a future date. Donations to the Kingston General Hospital Foundation Fund - Respiratory Disease Research would be appreciated by the family. Passed away peacefully, on Saturday, November 26, 2005, at Freeport Health Centre of Grand River Hospital. Cherished wife of Donald STEPHEN, who predeceased her in January 2005. Dear mother of Jim and his wife Sharon of Waterloo, Rob and his wife Velma of Mississauga, and Nancy POND and her husband Donald of Timmins loving grandmother of April and Andrea STEPHEN, Brent,▲ Lindsay▲ and Ashley STEPHEN, and Jeffrey and Julia POND; sister of Jean MURRAY of Oakville and Jack HOUGHTON of Cobourg. Predeceased by her parents Ruben and Clara HOUGHTON, brother Norman HOUGHTON and sister Mary Claire McKIMMIE. Honouring Helen's personal wishes, cremation has taken place. Peacefully, in hospital, Smiths Falls on Monday, December 26, 2005, Charles Urquhart CAMERON, at the age of 85. Beloved husband of the late Erma Catherine (GRAHAM) CAMERON. Loved mother of Brian (Carole) of Edmonton, Brenda (Bob) SWAN of Smiths Falls, Sandra (David) STEPHEN of Stuart, Florida, Donald (Mary Anne) of Edmonton, Donna (Michael) POUNDER of Mississauga, Deborah SIMPSON of Richmond, British Columbia and Roger of Victoria, British Columbia. Predeceased by his son Robert. Sadly missed by his 16 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
