Gertie died peacefully on May 21, 2005, at home following several
months decline from cancer. She is survived by her beloved family:

also survived by her dear mother Myrtle
ARMSTRONG of Brandon,
Manitoba; three sisters Edna, Lillian and Gladys, brother Elliott
and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Gertie was born in Brandon,
Manitoba and had a happy childhood. When she married Vern in
1952 they lived at Flin Flon, Manitoba. Later they lived in Winnipeg,
then Beaconsfield, Québec and since 1984 in Oakville. She was
an accomplished artist and teacher of painting. She taught watercolour
on a part time basis at Visual Arts Mississauga for the past
20 years with many in the class remaining with her for years.
It was only in January this year that her sickness prevented
her from continuing. Her paintings have been sold widely and
she participated in many art shows including one person shows,
the most recent being at Oakville Town Hall a year ago. She also
helped organize successful annual art and craft shows at her
church for ten years. She was a member of the Oakville Art Society,

a member of the Oakville Lawn Bowling Club and played in several
bridge clubs. She loved to travel with her husband Vern and they
made many trips both in Canada and abroad. She will be remembered
as a friendly, caring person with a lovely smile. She kept in
close contact with a widely spread extended family and her many

John SEAGRAVE died on Saturday, October 8, 2005 at age 46. A
Yellowknife writer, he was the voice of the last generation of
men who traded furs at Hudson's Bay trading posts across the
Canadian Arctic. John's humourous, yet moving stories, published
in his 2004 book of short stories, "The Hudon's Bay Boy," chronicle
his journey from the poorest streets of inner city Toronto to
northern outposts such as Kugluktuk, Baker Lake and Coral Harbour.

They own a native art store
in Yellowknife, the Gallery of the Midnight Sun. John has two
sons, Luke and Josh, and two daughters, Anna and Josephine. He
was predeceased by his mother, Cecelia and survived by his father,
Joseph, sisters Mary and June, and brothers Peter (Colleen) and
Richard (Lauri). He leaves behind Lisa's parents, Marjorie and
Brian STAPLES and Lisa's brothers, Chris (Steve) and David (Lily.)
He will be missed by his nieces and nephews: Meaghen, Connor,
Tom, Jack, Ned, Joe, Daniel, and Isabelle. He will also be missed

one last hunt with his Friends. He had recently retired from
47 years of service for the Toronto Star. To many he was a co-worker,
a coach, a volunteer or a friend. To all he was a man with a

Funeral Home and Chapel, 37 Church Street, Elora. From 2-4 and
7-9 p.m. Sunday. Service will be held on Monday December 5 at
1: 00 p.m. at the Alma United Church. With Reverend
SCHNIDER officiating
at the service. Followed by burial of the cremated remains at
