McCREARY, Bertha Irene (née SYKES)
Mrs. Bertha Irene McCREARY a life long resident of the Wallaceburg area passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at the Chatham Kent Health Alliance "Sydenham Campus", in Wallaceburg in her 100th year. Bertha was born in the Wallaceburg area and was a daughter of the late Edward and Carrie (HUCKLE) SYKES. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wallaceburg. She was in the 1927 graduating class of R.N's from Public General Hospital. She was a member of the Nurses Alumni of Public General Hospital. Bertha was a Supervising Operating Registered Nurse with Public General Hospital. Beloved wife of the late Edwin "Owen" McCREARY (1982.) Dear mother and mother-in-law of Helen and Glen LAWTON of Chatham and Howard and the late Beverley McCREARY (2004) of Wallaceburg. Loving grandmother of Laura and David LAWTON- WEAVER of South Carolina, Darryl and Leslie LAWTON of Virginia, Ross and Michele McCREARY, Lynn McCREARY, Lorne and Wendy McCREARY and Cherly McCREARY all of Wallaceburg. Great grandmother of Levi, Owen, Samantha and step-great grandmother of Mark and Renee. Also survived by a sister-in-law Dorothy SYKES, many nieces and nephews and two special care givers Deb CHARPANTIER and Heather SOUTHGATE. Predeceased by her brothers Gordon, Orval, Art, Ivan and Lavern, her sisters Helena, Laura, Hazel and Florence and a brother-in-law Franklin. The late Bertha McCREARY rested at the Eric F. Nicholls Funeral Home, 639 Elgin Street, in Wallaceburg until Thursday, March 17, 2005 when the funeral service was held from the chapel of the funeral home at 2 p.m. Pastor Brian HORROBIN, officiating. Mrs. Barb MYERS presided at the organ and Lois MYERS sang "In The Garden," Lynn McCREARY offered the Eulogy. Pall Bearers were Ross McCREARY, Lorne McCREARY, Lynn McCREARY, Cheryl McCREARY, Deb CHARPANTIER and Heather SOUTHGATE. Flower Bearers were Levi, Owen and Mark. Interment has taken place in Riverview Cemetery, Wallaceburg, Ontario. As an expression of sympathy donations to the Rosemarie Miller Doctor Recruitment Program may be left at the funeral home. As a living memorial a tree will be planted in Nicholls Memorial Forest in memory of Bertha McCREARY.

On Friday, October 14, 2005, in his 81st year, at the Palliative Care Unit of York Central Hospital, Richmond Hill, Ontario. Predeceased by his parents Thomas Byron PERIGOE and Mary Jane Garfield (nee SPIERS.) Survived by sister Win (Charles) SOUTHMAYD; predeceased by brothers Clark (Pat), Ross (Myrtle), Rae (Elsie), Del (Ardeth) and Herb (Betty).
Beloved husband of Marjorie Alberta (née NIXEY.) Dear father of Thomas Arthur and Barbara Elizabeth HOWE (Mark.) Proud grandfather of Grant, Blake and Kent. Ken will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Born in Toronto, Ontario, Ken grew up on Alberta Avenue, attended McMurrich Public School and Oakwood Collegiate Institute. Ken volunteered, in 1943, for active service with the Royal Canadian Air Force. In 1950 Ken graduated from the University of Western Ontario (Bachelor of Arts). Always a competitive athlete, Ken was a member of London, Ontario city championship teams: Football - South Collegiate Institute 1941; Softball - Somerville 1948 and London Life 1952.
Ken's business career commenced with London Life at head Office achievements included, in 1959, installation of the original Univac system followed by conversion to System 360. His career concluded at North American Life as Staff Counsellor helping others. Both roles were new at the time and each required Ken's innovative and organizational abilities resulting in many accomplishments.
No words can adequately express the thanks due to Doctor Len KRYSTOLOVICH and the remarkable nursing team of compassionate professionals at the Palliative Care Unit of York Central Hospital. The family also wishes to extend their appreciation to all of those who offered their support during this most difficult time.
A Memorial Service will be held at Marshall Funeral Home, 10366 Yonge Street, Richmond Hill, Ontario (4th traffic light north of Major Mackenzie Drive), on Saturday, November 19, 2005, commencing at 2: 00 p.m.; reception to follow. Private interment.
Remembrances, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Ontario or the Canadian Cancer Society.

Passed away peacefully, in her 77th year, at her home in Toronto on Saturday, April 9, 2005 after battling pancreatic cancer. Survived by children Linda (Scott SOUTHWELL,) Wendy (Jonathan BARKER), Dallas (Robert ASHALL) Forrest (Sharon MacKEIGAN). Loving grandmother to Scott, Tyler, Alex, Caleigh, Keigan, Logan, Myles, Sophia, Evan and step-grandchildren, Kate and Georgia. Dorothy earned a scholarship to Dalhousie University, graduating with her B.A., and subsequently earned her B.Ed. and M.A. After teaching in Sudbury for over 20 years, she became an avid world traveller and taught in Turkey and Malaysia. She continued teaching English Literature until a few years ago. The family invites close Friends of Dorothy to an informal gathering at the Humphrey Funeral Home - A.W. Entered into rest after a brief fight with cancer at Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, March 15, 2005 with her three girls by her side and in her son's heart. Bettsy's great pride and joy was her family. She will be profoundly missed by her children Carolyn (Neil) TURNBULL, Janice (Charles) WHITE/WHYTE, John (Marty LOCKHART) NEWMAN and Nancy (John MILNE) NEWMAN. Her love and sense of tradition will be missed by her many grandchildren and their families: Emma and Sammie TURNBULL, Tim (Rhonda MELVIN) WHITE/WHYTE, Alison WHITE/WHYTE, Liam and Colin WEBSTER, Rachel (Rick) KRUYF and children Teo and Mackenzie and Gretchen (Zeion WILSON) NEWMAN and their daughter Zuzu. She was predeceased by her first love, Samuel John NEWMAN to whom she was married for 34 years and her beloved brothers Donald Arthur, Wallace Emerson, Stewart Andrew, Bruce George and John Stanley and two sisters Marjorie Jean and Margaret Bernice BETTS. She was a dear aunt to Joan, John, Judy, Lynne and to Helen, Ralph and Bruce. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 20 years, Wrexford GROVES of Beaverton and will be missed by his family, Don (Crystal) GROVES, Mary (Pat) BROWN and Bob (Laura) GROVES. The GROVES grandchildren and great-grandchildren have come to know Bettsy as their grandmother and will miss her dearly: Holly (Andrew) SOUTHWELL and children Meredith and Madelaine, Adam (Meghan) GROVES and children Evan and Aaron, Sean (Joann) BROWN and daughter Katie, Carey (Robert) FRASER and daughter Courtney, Daniel (Michelle) and son Danny and Kelly GROVES. Bettsy was a respected teacher for many years at Brock and Port Perry High Schools. She was very proud to have achieved her B.A. at the age of 62. Her life and energies were committed to family, church and community. Born August 3rd, 1908 in Mosul, the Ottoman Empire, to the Reverend Thomas IBRAHIM and Salma SPEAR, Justine spent her youth in Mardin, Turkey and her late teens in Egypt, graduating from the American University at Cairo in the 1930's with a B.A. in Education and became a teacher in the English Mission College, Heliopolis. Justine married Shafik DEMLAKIAN of Mousa Dagh in 1941 and devoted her talents to the Armenian Red Cross and the Housaper Club in Cairo. In 1974 she joined Tom and Nairi with her family in Toronto and made Canada her home. With her poise, patient determination and nurturing nature she taught her children and grandchildren discipline, perseverance and true values. She will live forever in our hearts. The family extends its special gratitude to the Community Care Access Centre staff, the Mt. Sinai Palliative Care Program, the North York General Hospital and her family physician, Dr. David TANNENBAUM of Mt. Sinai Hospital for many years of compassionate care. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Jeannine and husband Chris, Jacqueline, Karen and husband Jerome, Gavin, Dwayne and Kyle. Proud great-grandmother of Hannah. Passed away peacefully on October 30, 2005. Beloved husband of Laura. Devoted father of Vincent, Judith (Placido), June (Zoltan), and Venant (Valerie).
