Sinai Hospital until 1974, and later a long term resident of Carefree Lodge. Survived by loving daughters Donna DOWLING, Paula BASS and Brenda WOOD (North Carolina,) grand_sons John, Jeffrey and Jeremy DOWLING and Chris and Edan ARMSTRONG. Beloved father of Phyllis STEIDMAN and her husband Maxwell and Linda CHUD and predeceased by son Dr. Lorne SHANKMAN. Devoted▼ grandfather of Jason and his wife Genevieve, Jennifer, Joshua and Michael and proud great-grandfather of Samantha. Dear brother of Gladys ZALDIN and brother-in-law to Hilda GREENBLATT and Jean and Bob LISS. Also▼ survived by many nieces and nephews. Dr. SHANKMAN was for years a pillar of the London Jewish Community and a respected member of the London dental profession. He served as Captain in the Royal Canadian Dental Corp during World War 2. Leonard's legacy of generosity and love will live on in those he leaves behind. Beloved husband of over 49 years of Mary Josephine "Jo" (McKEOWN) GIBBONS and dearly loved father of James and his wife Julie GIBBONS of Lambeth, Cathy GIBBONS of Vancouver, Billy and his wife Delores GIBBONS of Red Deer, Alberta and John and his wife Glenda GIBBONS of Chatham. Jim was born in Scotland on November 25, 1927, the son of the late James and Elizabeth (BURNS) GIBBONS. He came to Canada in 1956 and served in the Army. He also worked at the Aylmer Police College and taught wood working at Parkside Collegiate Institute. He was a member of Holy Angels' Church and the Knights of Columbus. Resting at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin Street, Saint Thomas until Wednesday morning and then to Holy Angels' Church where Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10: 00 a.m. Interment to follow in Holy Angels' Cemetery. Alice was born in Saint Thomas on April 12, 1915, the daughter of the late Albert and Ella (AXFORD) GARROD. She has lived all her life in this area. She was a retired farmer and worked a number of years as the cafeteria manager at the Aylmer Tobacco Exchange. Alice was adherent to Malahide United Church and was active with the United Church Women Resting at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin Street, Saint Thomas where funeral service will be held Saturday at 1: 00 p.m. Interment to follow in Union Cemetery. Beloved wife of the late John Howard SHANNON (1998) and dearly loved mother of Victoria and her husband Harry RYCKMAN and Jack CHARLTON, all of Saint Thomas. Loved grandmother of Anthony and his wife Mary RYCKMAN and George RYCKMAN and Dawn RYCKMAN and great-grandmother of Sara. Sadly missed by a number of nieces and nephews and cousins. Lovingly remembered by sister-in-law Celia BARENDREGT of Port Stanley and the late Alice RYCKMAN. Predeceased by 4 brothers Isaac, Clifford, Robert and George and a sister Stella. Blanche was born on January 31, 1911, the daughter of the late George and Elizabeth (MILLMAN) RYCKMAN. She was a life member of Dexter United Church, a member of the Dexter U.C.W., past member of the Order of the Eastern Star (Empress Chapter) and was retired from the Saint Thomas Psychiatric Hospital (Kitchen Staff). FOURNIER, Francis Edwin " Frank" (1930-2005)
75 years.
It is with great sadness that after a lengthy illness the family of Frank FOURNIER announce his death on Tuesday, November 22, 2005 at the age of 75 at the Laurentian Hospital. Frank accepted his illness with grace and good humour. Predeceased by his parents, Alexander and Rita Louise "Honey" (SHANNON) FOURNIER. He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Joan Bernadette "Beau" (RICHARD;) his three sons, Richard (wife Jane) of Elliot Lake, Ontario, Alexander (wife Patsy) and Marc of Sudbury. Frank was also very proud of his granddaughters, Melanie and Stephanie, both attending school in Montreal. Frank also leaves a brother Jack (wife Sheila) and their four daughters all of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
After graduating from the University of Ottawa with Bachelor of Commerce degree, Frank entered the family business, A. Fournier Insurance, established by his father and grandfather in 1895. After the sale of A. Fournier Insurance, Frank was able to fulfill a life-long dream to teach and joined the faculty of the newly formed Cambrian College teaching business and later became head of the department.
During his early years Frank was very active as a member of the Jaycees, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, the Sudbury Yacht Club, the Idylwylde Golf and Country Club, the Little Theatre Guild and the Sudbury Theatre Centre. Frank loved the outdoors, especially his many years sailing and canoeing. As a young man Frank obtained his pilot's licence at the age of 18 earning hours flying supplies to bush camps and lifeguarding on the shores of Lake Ramsey, where he became head lifeguard.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Frank's memory to the Diabetes Association or to the S.R.H. Memorial Site Equipment Fund would be appreciated. At Frank's request there will be no visitation. A Memorial Service will be held at Christ the King Church, 30 Beech Street, Sudbury, on Monday, November 28th, 2005 at 10: 00 a.m., followed at 12: 00 p.m. by a reception in the Solarium Room at the former Caswell Hotel now the Holiday Inn, 1696 Regent Street South, Sudbury. Our family, in deepest sadness, announces the passing of Helen (née NYDAM) to our Lord, at 3: 10 p.m., May 18, 2005. We are thankful that after a courageous battle with cancer, her final day was peaceful and she was surrounded by her family. Husband John, daughters Mel and Regina, son-in-law Kyle, granddaughter Rachel, brothers, sisters, mother, in-laws and many, many Friends will always remember her strong heart. A devout Christian who participated fully in the worship of our Lord and Saviour, she lived her life with zeal for others. She dedicated herself to her immediate and extended family, as well as her church community. She also touched the lives of many students, parents and colleagues during over 30 years of service in the teaching profession. On Tuesday, October 18, 2005 at Lakeridge Health - Oshawa at age 71. Allen, beloved husband of Joyce KYDD. Dear father of Catherine (Don ALLAN,) Charlene (Rob BARUCHA) and Cindy (Les SOULE.) Grandfather of Nikki and Josh BARUCHA and Jessica, Jennifer and Joey SOULE. Survived by his brother Morley (Ruby) and sisters Betty (the late Harvey) MORRISON, Marion (Doug) SHANNON and Helen (Don) HOLSTOCK. Predeceased by sisters Joan (Elgin) MONKMAN and Sandy (the late Paul) HARPER. Resting at the Low and Low Funeral Home, 23 Main Street South, Uxbridge (905-852-3073) on Thursday, October 20th, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service to be held in the chapel on Friday at 2 p.m. Interment Uxbridge Cemetery. Peacefully at St. Joseph's Health Centre on Friday, November 18, 2005 at age 50, after a courageous battle with cancer. Member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 3 and former executive of Branch 217. 20-year employee of Tencorr Packaging. Lovingly remembered by his wife Deborah and two sons Derek and Matthew. Dear son of Dennis and the late Dorothy MONK. Loved brother of Doug (Julie) and Byron (Anita.) Dear son-in-law of Marilyn LINTON and brother-in-law of Shelly SHANNON.
