We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dad, Harry DEJONGE on March 31, 2005 in his 84th year. He was born in Zwaartsluis, Holland in 1921, one of 5 children. He was married to the late Grace DEJONGE in 1948 and immigrated to Canada in 1951. Together they raised their 5 children in Chatham. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Liz (John) VANNOORD of Saint Thomas, his sons Clare (Lou) of Chatham, Pete (Sher) of Chatham, Harold (Barb) of Brantford, and Ed (Faye) of Chatham. He will be missed by his many grandchildren and greatgrandchildren and a special friend Corrie BERGSMA, who had put a spark in his eyes in the last years of his life. He will also be missed by his brother Mindert (Will) and sister Gre (Don) VANERVLIET of Holland. He is predeceased by his loving wife Grace (SCHENK) DEJONGE (1999,) his brothers Klaas (Willy) and Jan (Eli), brother-inlaw Bill SCHENK and daughter-in-law Janet (1994.)
He was an active member of Grace Christian Reformed Church of Chatham. He was a proud builder of "Superior Homes" for many years. Beloved wife of the late Paul Frank LEPPEK (1982.) Loving sister-in-law of Helen SIEGEL of Seaforth. Cherished aunt to many nieces and nephews in Canada and the United States. Mary was predeceased by her parents, Anthony and Theckla (WEBER) SIEGEL, her brothers, William and Francis SIEGEL, her sisters, Agnes ZETTLER, Magdalen SCHENKEL, and Kathleen ZETTLER, and her sister-in-law and brothers-in-law Melinda SIEGEL, Albert ZETTLER, Lawrence SCHENKEL and Eugene ZETTLER. Mary was born and raised in Chepstow, Ontario, and from 1937 until 1997 she lived and worked in Michigan. Mary's dear heart, wonderful sense of humour, beautiful smile, indomitable will, and unwavering faith in God were admired by all who had the fortune to be associated with her. At the request of the deceased, there is no visitation or funeral. Cremation has taken place. At a later date inurnment beside her late husband will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield, Michigan. Paul Chute, 69, of Aylmer, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, January 14, 2005 after a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Shirley, and his four children, Jeff and wife Margaret of Whitehorse; Denise MUELLER and husband Rick of London; Shaun of London, and Susan BRUNELLE and husband Paul of Aylmer. He also leaves his grandchildren, Julie, Lance and Shaun BRACKENBURY, Sara, Alyssia and Ryan MUELLER and Scott, Trent and Joshua BRUNELLE. Paul is survived by his sister, Dorothy WILSON of Tillsonburg; Betty SCHERER of Tennessee; Barbara CLARKE of Burlington; Mary and Keith DANBROOK of Tillsonburg; Lois and George TAILOR/TAYLOR of Ottawa; Gloria and Paul GIBSON of Hamilton Diana ANDERSON and Bernie HOLDEN of Vienna and Irene BRACKENBURY and Bill VANDENEEKHOUT of Tillsonburg. He is also survived by an aunt, Ruby BRACKENBURY, of Aylmer and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Paul was predeceased by his parents, Mabel and Frank BRACKENBURY, and brother Larry.
Paul BRACKENBURY was a long-time educator in Elgin County. He began his career as a teacher at McGregor Public School in 1956, teaching at Straffordville, Port Burwell and Davenport for many years. During this time he also became a vice-principal. After his retirement in 1990 he spent his time playing baseball, poker and guitar, as well as gardening and woodworking. Paul was an active member of the Kinsmen and K-40 Clubs in Alymer. He had a keen interest in local history, and was active in the Bayham Historical Society. He enjoyed contributing articles to the Aylmer Express. He was a great wealth of Knowledge about the Port Burwell, Vienna, Lakeview and Aylmer areas. Most of his stories concerned his beloved Lakeview. His family and Friends are fortunate that Paul compiled detailed family history books for both the BRACKENBURY and Peters families, including many photographs and information that date back to the early 1800's.
