Peacefully, at the Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga on Wednesday, March 30, 2005. Beloved husband and best friend of Marg. Loving, proud and supportive father and father-in-law of Lynda Herron FORBES and David, Catherine Herron WILSON and Brian, Bob HERRON and Karyn, Jayne HERRON, Ann▼ HERRON, Bruce HERRON and Astrid. Proud and Loving Grandpa of Rob and Shalayne HERRON, Carolyn▼ and Alexandra WILSON, and Victoria and Olivia HERRON. Dear brother of Catherine COLE and the late Graham HERRON and Ruth CARLETON. Brother-in-law and friend of Jim COLE, Adele▼ LAUGHTON, Al LANGDON, Bruce LANGDON, Betty▼ LANGDON, Doreen LANGDON and the late Glenn LAUGHTON. Fondly▼ remembered by many nieces and nephews. Bob was a mechanic by trade, getting his licence after discharge from the Canadian Navy. He was a self employed business man in Mississauga for 49 years, 34 years as Owner/President of Herron Chevrolet-Oldsmobile Ltd. Bob sailed competitively for Canada with his yacht 'Amazing Grace' and participated in competitions in Canada, United States and England. He was a Certified Hockey Canada Coach and coached Mississauga rep hockey for many years. Bob was a longtime member of Mississaugua Golf and Country Club. He loved the music of the pipes and drums and was himself an excellent drummer. Bob truly felt he had lived a life full of many blessings and we his family shared in so many of them with him. He was an 'Oak'in his generation. The family extends very special love and thanks to Adrine SALATIAN (Spectrum▼ Health▼ Care▼) for her dedication, love and support of Bob and our family; Dr. Frank LIPSON; dear friend Suzanne WILLIAMS; dear sister-in-law Adele LAUGHTON and brother-in-law Bruce LANGDON for their untiring love and care, and also to the very special nurses and Dr. HUDSON and Dr. BESIK of Credit Valley Palliative Care Unit. BRABANT, Jacqueline Diane (née DECOSTE)
The family of Jacqueline Diane BRABANT (née DECOSTE,) with great sadness, must inform her many Friends and relatives that on Sunday, September 25th, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie, Ontario, Jackie passed away. She was 73 years young. Remaining to cherish her memory are her four daughters: Francine and her husband Mike TENNANT of Toronto, Carole LEWIS of Brampton, Andree DECOSTE of Brampton, Helene and her husband Fred SALAZAR of Barrie. Her seven grandchildren, Jessica RIDGWELL, Jason SALAZAR, Christopher SALAZAR, Sarah TENNANT, Andrew SALAZAR, Madison EVOY, and David DECOSTE will forever remember their loving Mama. To her two great-granddaughters Kyra and Jada RIDGWELL, she was also Mama. Sadly she has left behind her two surviving brothers, Alcide and Rene DECOSTE of Montreal. Jackie was born in Glengarry, Ontario. She was the daughter of the late Raoul and Maxima DECOSTE. The youngest of eleven children, she grew up surrounded by seven brothers, two sisters, and lots of love. She went on to have five children of her own, which she raised in Toronto. Her only son, Michel BRABANT, predeceased her in 1972. She's probably with him right now. She loved to travel with her partner of 18 years Henry BEIFUSS, who predeceased her in 1988. Jackie moved to Barrie in 1996, she belonged to the Catholic Women's League at Saint Mary's Church, and was a volunteer at Royal Victoria Hospital. She was quite crafty at paper tolling, and loved her computer. The family wish to thank Dr. McCONVEY who went above and beyond his duties in the care and treatment of our mother. The staff of 3NB, with a special thank you to Lindsay, Glenda, and Marcia - you know what you did, and we thank you! Mom, we know you are happier where you are surrounded by all of your loving family, but we are sure going to miss you. Lucie transitioned to begin a new phase of her life in Christ on January 29, 2005, at the age of 47 at Ian Anderson House, Oakville. She was wonderfully cared for by the hospital staff at Princess Margaret, Mt. Sinai and Oakville Trafalgar Hospitals during her struggle with cancer (sarcoma). Lucie passed away peacefully in the early afternoon with family in attendance. Loving wife of Randy STACKARUK and dedicated mother to Daniel, Michele and Christian; Lucie is also survived by her mother, Lorenza DI PROSPERO, her brother, Tony DI PROSPERO and sister Janice SALCICCIOLI. Lucie's faith in Christ was exemplified by her service to her family and community. She served on the board of John Knox Christian School, attended Bible Study Fellowship for many years and was involved in numerous ministries at her church and in the community. Shahid SALEEM wants the hit-and-run driver who killed his father to do the right thing and surrender to police.
"It's shameful," SALEEM said yesterday as mourners gathered at his parents' Brampton home.
"We're just stunned that this guy just took off, didn't even bother to see if my father was alive or dead.
"I'm sure it's eating him up inside. I just want him to turn himself in."
As family members waited to celebrate Father's Day with him on Sunday night, Akhtar SALEEM was run down in west-end Toronto by a car that not only didn't stop, but sped up as his body crumpled to the street several metres from the impact.
The 65-year-old cabbie, who owned two airport taxis, was helping guide another vehicle out of a repair garage on Dufferin Street, just north of Rogers Rd., at about 10 p.m. so a tow truck could back SALEEM's disabled taxi into the shop.
His taxi had broken down earlier in the evening on Merton Street, near Yonge St. and Davisville. Ave.
Tow-truck driver Baldev Singh SEKHON said SALEEM was standing in the northbound lanes, directing the vehicle coming out of the garage, when he was struck by an oncoming car.
He said he heard "a big noise" and turned to see SALEEM's body rolling from the hood of the car onto the windshield, before tumbling to the pavement.
"He never slowed down until the body fell from the car, then he gave it more speed," SEKHON said of the fleeing driver.
"People stop if they hit an animal. But this was a man. The driver was stupid not to stop. He has no brain."
Det. Wally WATTS of traffic services said police are hunting a grey, two-door, early 1990s Volkswagen Cabriolet convertible. He said it likely has massive damage to its grille, hood and windshield, and the fabric roof is possibly ripped.
"The driver not only didn't stop, he accelerated away," WATTS said. "He was in a real panic. Fear set in and he pushed the escape button.
"He did everything he could to get away from there and just left a man to die and bleed to death in the centre of the roadway."
SALEEM suffered massive head and internal injuries. He was dead at the scene.
Shahid SALEEM said his father was a devoted family man who came to Canada from Pakistan in 1970, raised three children and loved his role as grandfather to five youngsters.
Family members were waiting to celebrate Father's Day with him when he called to say his taxi had broken down.
Police brought the bad news to their door at 2 a.m. yesterday.
"We're still in shock," he said.
"My Dad put us through university and made sure we got good education so we could make something of ourselves."
"He liked working. It gave him a purpose to do something. He was a fitness buff and worked out an hour each day."
He said family members are racked with the agony of not knowing whether his father suffered or why the motorist fled.

After a brief illness, passed away peacefully, on Thursday, November 10, 2005, at the honourable age of 92 years. Predeceased by her husband Nicholaus and her son Peter. Born in Pskov, Russia on August 1, 1913, Miliza spent her formative years in Estonia before emigrating to Canada in 1952. In her later years, she lived at Leisure World Nursing Home in Gravenhurst where she developed many Friendships with fellow residents and the caring staff. Sincere thanks to the many nurses and doctors who looked after Miliza at Bracebridge Hospital where she passed away.
