Passed away peacefully on November 24, 2005 at the age of 72
at the Princess Margaret Hospital after a brief but too-long
fight against cancer.
Tom was born in Montreal,
son of Edgar Thomas
REYNOLDS of Montreal
and Louise
CLIFFORD of Lewiston, Maine. He was educated at St.
Leo's Academy in Montreal and got his first jobs in that city,
at first for a Food Broker, J.L. Freeman, and eventually as a
Sales Executive for All-Canada Radio. In 1953 he moved to Toronto,
where he remained for the rest of his life. Media sales became
not only his lifelong career but also his greatest love. After
a stint with Twentieth Century Fox, he was responsible for making
Television Bingo one of the most successful advertising campaigns
in Canadian supermarket history and for turning the Miss Canada
Pageant into a national Television event that lasted for many
years. He founded several Media Marketing companies, some in
partnership with others. Throughout all these activities, he
remained one of the most respected gentlemen in the media community.
Although he prided himself upon the fact that he had built up
a network of many business acquaintances, he was never aware
of the number of true Friends and admirers he had created. He
will be missed by those Friends as well as by his many relatives,
but particularly by his daughter Johanna and son Thomas, both
of whom provided him with enormous pride. He will also never
be forgotten by his cherished companion, Ada, who made his last
few years some of the happiest in his life.
As a tribute to Tom, a donation may be made to Variety Village,
where Tom worked as a volunteer for many years.
The family wishes to extend its heartfelt thanks to the outstanding
and caring hospital staff on floor 17A in the Princess Margaret
Hospital.
A memorial will be held at Morley Bedford Funeral Home at 159
Eglinton Avenue West (2 stoplights west of Yonge St.) on Saturday,
December 10th between 2-4 p.m. with a 3 p.m. reading and remembrance
by Fr. Richard
CLIFFORD (cousin.)

Thomas▲ -- Dispatch
By Oliver MOORE,
Saturday,
December 24, 2005, Page M4
Tom REYNOLDS met the woman who would become his wife at the Miss
Canada pageant.
He and his friend, Bob
GRIERSON, took over and popularized the
pageant. Mr.
REYNOLDS envisioned it as more than a bikini contest
he saw it as an opportunity to celebrate womanly virtues and
give away scholarship money to young women. He later used it
as a launching pad for Miss Teen Canada. "He was a bit ahead
of his time," said his daughter, Johanna
REYNOLDS.
At one of these contests, the singing talent of a young participant
caught Mr.
REYNOLDS's attention. He soon became her manager and
they were married about three years later. Carolann
REYNOLDS,
who kept her name even after their divorce in 1987, said that
her ex-husband was an entrepreneur at heart.
Born
Edgar▲
Thomas▲
REYNOLDS, he grew up in Montreal the son of
a decorated war hero and a mother deeply involved in theatre.
After he came to Toronto in 1953, Mr.
REYNOLDS worked at Twentieth
Century Fox Film Corp., and helped the successful advertising
of Television Bingo. He was also the founder of several media
marketing companies. "He was too young to die," said Mr.
GRIERSON,
who helped Mr.
REYNOLDS get the Miss Canada pageant on television.
"He had lots of life in him and a great sense of humour."
Mr. REYNOLDS died November 24 after a short fight with cancer.
He was 72.
