(Thomas) Lionel MORTON died in Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto, on February 6, 2005 from lymphoma and viral infections, originating from Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. Born in Winnipeg on November 9, 1946, he was the younger son of William Lewis MORTON, the historian, and Margaret (Peggy) Orde MORTON. Lionel▼ studied at the University of Manitoba and at the University of Pittsburgh, and took a doctorate cum laude in English literature at the University of Toronto in 1975. After teaching at the universities of Trent, Victoria and Alberta, he returned to Toronto where he worked as a computer programmer and a writer, and was active in causes in the gay community. He is survived by his sister, Anne MORTON of Winnipeg; his brother Orde in Toronto; his aunts Betty MORTON and Honora PHILLIPS and his uncles, Harry MORTON and Bud PHILLIPS and many cousins in Western Canada, Ontario, New Zealand and Germany. The family want to thank Dr. Jess POWIS, Robert BURGOYNE, and the medical teams at Toronto General, Mount Sinai and Princess Margaret Hospitals. Burial will be in Saint John's Cathedral graveyard in Winnipeg and a memorial service will be held in Toronto. Donations may be made in memoriam to the Canadian Aids Society through www. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her grandchildren: Cari-Lynn, Glen, Christopher, Brenda, Michael and Jonathon. Great-grandmother of Caelen. Wanda was an active parishioner of St. Sophie's in Montreal, St. Andrew's in Florida and St. Demetrius in Toronto. Wanda was a long term C.N. employee and was instrumental in gaining equal pass privileges for all C.N. female employees across Canada.
