you in silence And often speak your name Now all I have is memories
And your pictures in a frame. These memories are my keepsake
With which I'll never part God has you in his keeping I have
you in my heart. Lovingly remembered always, Husband Jim.

It is with profound sadness that Albert's family announces his
peaceful passing, on November 11, 2005, from cancer. Born in

SMITH,
Robert 1998 -- Died This Day
Friday, October 28, 2005, Page S9
Mining executive born in Northern Ontario in 1932.
A member of a family deeply involved in gold and silver mining,
he grew up in Haileybury, Ontario, on the northwest shore of
Lake Temiskaming. From 1956 to 1970, he explored for minerals
in Canada and Europe, worked as a supervising engineer for Canadian
Bechtel Ltd. and spent six years in research for Iron Ore Co.
of Canada and two years with Denison Mines Ltd. Starting in 1970,
he spent 14 years working two difficult gold and silver mines
in Northern Ontario and Quebec and then in 1984 he formed an
unlikely partnership with Peter
MUNK, chairman of Barrick Gold.
Together they went on to discover and develop the massive Goldstrike
mine in Nevada, the financial engine that helped Barrick to evolve
into one of the largest gold mining companies in the world. He
was closely involved in operations and once told a reporter "I
don't get paid to speculate, I get paid to produce gold." In
1993, he was named the Mining Man of the Year by The Northern
Miner.
Later, he and Mr.
MUNK bought Lac Minerals for $2.3-billion,
which gave them the chance to explore the geological potential
of Chile and Peru.
