On Tuesday, May 31st, 2005, local musician Keith
KAIN passed
away peacefully at London Health Sciences Centre with his music
partner Barbie and her husband Bruce
CORDICK by his side. Keith,
who was on a world cruise, had performed on stage to a full house
when later that night he suffered a heart attack. He was airlifted
to Dubai, The United Arab Emirates where he stayed for two months
before being airlifted to London, Ontario. Keith worked for the
Ministry of Transportation retiring as head district accountant
and then started his second career in music. Playing fiddle since
the age of seven, he formed three bands and produced two CD's
titled "Cousins Showband" and "Fiddling with Keith". He completed
a successful tour of Newfoundland promoting his first CD in 1996
and played at "Fiddlers of the World," in Halifax in 1999. He
also performed on Prince Edward Island at the Rollo Bay Festival.
He wants to thank his fellow musicians, his fans who supported
him, his close neighbours, family and Friends. Also, Trevor and

possible to do what he loved best, play music. Keith lived a
full happy life and, along with his partners Barbie and Bruce,
traveled extensively, created the Fiddlefern Gardens in Sauble
Beach and volunteered his time in helping and entertaining others.
Keith will be remembered for his smile, one line jokes and as
he would say, "My Fiddling and Farming". A private family service

In you - and all that you are
I hold onto the sound of your laughter,
To your spontaneity (New York City!)
To your originality,
Your thoughtfulness (Dani's 21st)
And your overwhelming generosity
And somehow I am comforted by you
And all that you are - Even now.

JORDAN,

Margaret May
(CROSBY,

Beloved wife of James Kenneth

Harold
Henry
Stephen JORDAN (1989) and loved mother of Elaine
McGREGOR-

and her husband David of Saint Thomas and Donald
McGREGOR and his
wife Marg of Mississauga. Margaret was predeceased by her brother,
Joseph CROSBY.
She is survived by her sister, Donna
DAVIES and
thirteen grandchildren - Jeff, Jayne, Paul, Kim, Sean, Kelly,
Christy, Cameron, Tui, Keiran, Maggie May, Callum and Bridget,
ten great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Margaret was born on January 17, 1922 in the same room as her
mother at Dunboyne. Each summer she enjoyed the reunion there
to reacquaint with old Friends. She remembered the days of the
horse and buggy and the first cars in the area. At thirteen,
she tied tobacco for five dollars a day. On October 30, 1946
James Kenneth was injured in the middle yard at the Michigan
Central Railway and died on November 1. Margaret was blessed
with their two beautiful children to raise. In the years following
her marriage in 1956 to Harold, the family often visited his
home at Sutton, Quebec. Margaret worked at Victor Gasket Hayes
Dana until 1986. She enjoyed the retirees' meetings and swapping
stories. Now she had had time to devote to her needlework - quilting,
knitting, crocheting and embroidery. She had gardened all her
life and made her flowerbeds abundant with growth and colour.
Her trailer at Springwater was an opportunity for her to share
baking and have friendly conversation. Family occasions were
always a joy and as the matriarch, Margaret would sit and chat
with each and everyone. Resting at Williams Funeral Home, 45
Elgin Street, Saint Thomas where the funeral service will be held
Friday at 1: 00 p.m. with interment to follow at Aylmer Cemetery.
Visitation Wednesday 7-9 p.m. and Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. As
Margaret spent her life in Elgin County, donations would be appreciated
to the Elgin-Saint Thomas Community Foundation (McGregor and Morris

Migrant workers killed by car while biking to Delhi in dark
By Monte SONNENBERG,
Special to The Free Press
Otterville -- Investigators probing a collision near Delhi that
killed two migrant workers and left a third with serious injuries
are probing the role vehicle speed and the absence of bicycle
reflectors may have played in the crash.
William BELL, 54, Desmond
McNEIL, 39, and Fred
SMITH, 35, were
cycling on Highway 59 northwest of Delhi about 7: 50 p.m. Tuesday
when they were hit from behind by a car, Norfolk Ontario Provincial
Police said.
BELL and
McNEIL were killed.
SMITH was taken to London Health
Sciences Centre.
BELL,
McNEIL and
SMITH were part of an eight-man crew from Jamaica
working at the Kwan farm near Otterville.
"This morning, before they started their work day, we took some
time and said some words about the injured and killed and had
a moment of silence," Arthur
KWAN said last night. "It's at a
time like this when it really hits you because you realize they're
not coming back. It was a total shock. I watched last night as
they rode out the lane."
The men were riding toward Delhi in the dark on bicycles when
they were hit by a car near the intersection of Mall Road, police
said.
The▲▼ car suffered extensive damage. Its driver, Chris
MORRIS,
26, of Simcoe, was admitted to Norfolk General Hospital in Simcoe
for observations after showing signs of distress, police said.
BELL had been employed on the Kwan farm for the last eight years.
The farm near Otterville specializes in growing Chinese vegetables.
KWAN described
BELL as a hard worker who was always seeking extra
hours to support his large family.
"He was always a good-natured guy," he said. "You could always
joke around with him. He was a dependable, go-to guy who did
his best in the field."
McNEIL often spoke of a woman in Jamaica, but never shared her
name, KWAN said.
He frequently rode into Delhi to call her because she was worried
about him.
McNEIL went into Delhi Monday -- the day before he died -- and
bought his sweetheart a fancy necklace.
KWAN said
McNEIL was
likely cycling into Delhi to call her again when the collision
occurred.
The KWAN family and the rest of the Jamaican crew travelled to
London last night to check on
SMITH, who is expected to recover.
The Jamaican Liaison Office took possession of the affected workers'
belongings yesterday. They will be held in trust pending their
return to next-of-kin. The liaison office is arranging to fly
the bodies back to Jamaica.

ROBERTSON-
MORRIS,
Bessie -- Dispatch:
By Jordan PRESS,
Saturday,
March 19, 2005 Page M6
Bessie ROBERTSON-
MORRIS had high standards, even after she retired
from teaching dance.
Former student Marie-Anne
LONGLADE-
LINK, who now runs her own
dance school, sent her old teacher videos from competitions and
shows for input.
"There's too much black," Mrs.
ROBERTSON-
MORRIS told her over
the phone days before she died. "You haven't got rid of all the
black."
That was on a Sunday. On the following Thursday, February 10,
Mrs. ROBERTSON-
MORRIS died of a heart attack. She was 87.
Mrs. ROBERTSON-
MORRIS was an only child born in Montreal on April
23, 1917. In 1943 she married Dan
SHEARER, killed in 1944 in
the Second World War. She then married James
MORRIS in 1950 and
had two boys. Her second husband died in 2001.
At the age of 16, Mrs.
ROBERTSON-
MORRIS founded an eponymous
dance school in Toronto. In 1962, Mrs.
ROBERTSON-
MORRIS left
the school, which still has two studios today.
But she attended as many recitals as she could, even after moving
to Calgary in 1993. "It was her life until she sold the school,"
her son Peter
MORRIS says. "It was all she did."
Mrs. ROBERTSON-
MORRIS was an expert at tap and ballet and expected
the same of her students, says Margaret
CAULFIELD, a former pupil
who now runs the school. "You had to do things exactly right."
And Mrs. ROBERTSON-
MORRIS is still giving directions through
her onetime apprentices. Ms.
LONGLAIDE-
LINK says she tells her
classes one of Mrs.
ROBERTSON-
MORRIS's favourite lines when they
forget what they've learned: "I gave you that step...and now
it's gone."

Father, military historian. Born March 1, 1946, in Toronto. Died
December 8, 2004, of brain cancer, aged 58.
My father's life was -- like his favourite candies, licorice
allsorts -- one of great variety. In career alone, he worked
as a draftsman, computer programmer and teacher's assistant.
His duties ranged from helping students with severe physical
disabilities at Northview Heights Secondary School, to travelling
Ontario setting up the Internet, in its early days, for army
bases.
The one thread of consistency that ran through his life was his
role as a military historian. From the age of 16, he began religiously
taking notes on the Canadian militia, that amorphous group of
men across the country who, independently of the British army,
defended Canada before it had established its own army. No napkin,
movie stub or bus transfer was safe from my father's hard, angular
scribbles. And no family holiday was free from visits to war
memorials, armories or shops (where he would pick up medals for
his extensive collection). He regularly visited the government
archives in Ottawa and the Royal Military College in Kingston
to research the lives of militia men whose efforts had largely
been forgotten over time.
A lifelong member of the army reserves, he was awarded the C.D.
(Canadian Forces Decoration) for 12 years of army service.
He had an appetite for other things, of course. His ability to
eat a huge ball of ice cream in one bite, without diverting his
gaze away from the newspaper he always read at the dinner table,
was legendary in our family. But, second to loving Sylvia, his
wife of 37 years, his brother Leslie, myself and my brother,
Stuart, his heart belonged to the military. In 1983, his lifetime
of research culminated in the publication of his book, The Canadian
Militia, from 1855: an historical summary, a never-before documented
evolution of the country's militia from 1855-1983.
I remember stumbling upon my father's book in the McGill University
library, while I was a student there, and clutching it to my
chest with a fierce surge of pride.
But the truth is, I never understood my father's passion for
the subject until I began talking to Friends and family.
Bob GALBRAITH, one of my father's closest Friends and a Canadian
army veteran, helped by telling me about the part of my father's
extensive medal collection relating specifically to the Mons
Retreat.
Marking the first 80 days of the First World War, the campaign
saw the British troops slaughtered by a far larger German force
in Belgium.
"There were three million Germans compared with 180,000 British,"
says Bob.
"It was like David and Goliath, and David was half dead, but
David won," he says, referring to the eventual British victory.
I finally grasped my father's love of military history: the soldiers
had guts. It's one thing to enter battle with the knowledge that
your side is likely to win; it's another matter entirely to go
in fighting knowing that you'll likely die. My father didn't
choose his toughest battle -- his fight for his life -- but he
approached it with the same sort of mettle as the men he studied.
For the nine months in which he endured numerous bouts of chemotherapy
and radiation, he remained unflinchingly positive. His feisty
sense of humour never faltered, and he still took incredible
pleasure in his favourite things -- a great tuna sandwich, a
trip to the book shop up the road from his home, a walk in the
park.
Ever mindful that his life would be tragically cut short, he
would tell me that he wondered what sort of legacy he would leave
behind. And this is what I told him: On top of spending 31 years
with me as a boisterous, loving father, he taught me how to live
with courage and dignity. And for that I am eternally grateful.
Samantha is David's daughter.

modest model he provided. He was active in London as a member
of the Roman Catholic School board, and he promoted high school
athletics as secretary of W.O.S.S.A. and in countless other ways.
He was the first Chairman of the federal government's Council

HENDERSON,
R.
Gordon
(December 6, 1921 to June 8, 2005)
Passed away peacefully at Kelowna General Hospital. Gordon is
survived by his loving wife June; his daughters, Tracey (Mike
FREDRICKSON) of Kelowna and Pam (John
MORRIS) of Maui, Hawaii.
He was recently predeceased by his son Paul (Joan) of Victoria,
British Columbia. Gordon and June retired to Kelowna in 1994
from West Vancouver where they lived for many years. Gordon was
well known in the life and general insurance industry where he
started in sales in the 1940s and built his career over more
than 30 years to become a senior manager of several major life
insurance companies including National Life, Canada Life, Standard
Life and Fidelity Life. Always looking for new challenges, he
began a second career in his mid 50s, leaving the corporate life
to open his own general insurance agency in Vancouver. He built
his agency into a successful business over the next five years
and sold it prior to moving to the Okanagan. Gordon was a 'people
person' in the truest sense of the word. The insurance business
provided a vehicle for him to express his true nature - he thrived
on the opportunity to inspire trust in others and serve his customers,
many of whom became long-time Friends. He credited his wife,
June, for her unwavering support of his career. While Gordon's
son and daughters took different paths in life, they and their
partners are united in their admiration of him and his enduring
example of integrity, resilience, individuality and love. Gordon
is also survived by grandchildren Sydney, Meagan and Adam. A
private gathering will be held on July 9, 2005 in West Vancouver.

remembered by her sons, Peter and Steven and daughters-in-law,
Martha and Helen. Proud and devoted grandmother to Joanne and
Kadyn. Born April 23, 1917, in Montreal, Bessie grew up in Toronto.
At age 16, she founded Robertson's School of Dancing, a ballet
school for young girls. Over time, this enterprise included other
modes of dance at several studios. There were many memorable
recitals at Eaton Auditorium. Robertson's School of Dancing still
operates to this day, training young people in the art of dance.
As a founder and charter member of the Canadian Dance Teacher's
Association, Bessie influenced generations of dance teachers.
Bessie's creativity was not limited to dance. In the 1960's,
she wrote a radio play for Canadian Broadcasting Corporation
Radio as well as a script for "The Juliette Show". She published
several poems. At age 87, she proudly published a children's

MORRIS,
Ernest▲
G.
Born in London, England on July 20, 1925, passed away peacefully
on November 11, 2005 at Soldiers Memorial Hospital in Orillia.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Margaret, his son Robert
and his grandchildren Ryan and Stephanie. He joined the Royal
Air Force during World War 2 and at age 19 was assigned to 625
Bomber Squadron as a Rear Gunner and flew a number of missions
over Europe. In 1945 his Lancaster Bomber was shot down over
Belgium and he survived by parachuting into the Ardennes Forest
where he was rescued by U.S. forces. After the war he was assigned
to Palestine and Egypt with the Royal Air Force and then emigrated
to Canada in 1948. He worked for Massey-Ferguson from his arrival
in Canada until his retirement in 1983. He fulfilled his dream
of retiring to Riley Lake with Margaret where they spent many
happy years. Ernie was a man who taught himself everything from
carpentry to sheet metal to investing and became proficient at
everything he touched. But most of all Ernie will be remembered
for his optimism and a wonderful sense of humour and he will
be dearly missed. A private family service was held at Mundell
Funeral Home, 79 West St. N., in Orillia, followed by cremation.
Messages of condolence are welcomed at www.mundellfuneralhome.com.
