WILSON,
Dr.▼
W.▼
John,▼ M.D., (F.R.C.PC)
Passed away peacefully at Uxbridge Cottage Hospital on Saturday,
February 5th, 2005. John is sadly missed and proudly remembered
by his beloved wife Marion, his sons, John (Susanne) and Douglas
(Susan,▼) granddaughters, Erin (Rick
ANDREWS) and Sarah (Ken
MERCER,)
his extended family and the many Friends, colleagues and patients
whose lives he touched over 91 years. John's earliest years were
spent in the Kirkland Lake area where his father, Dr. John P
WILSON, carried on a. general practice serving the local mining
communities. Later, the family relocated to Richmond Hill where
John grew up, together with his sister Olive 'Betty' and brothers
Fred and Eric. In 1937 John realized his dream of following his
father into medicine, graduating from the University of Toronto
with a specialty in pediatrics. While at medical school John
met Marion
ROGERS, who was then nursing at the Hospital for Sick
Children. John and Marion were married on July 15th 1939 and
there began a love that simply grew and inspired all those who
knew them. John never missed an opportunity to speak lovingly
of 'my bride', words he could barely express without choking
up, they were so deeply felt. After they were married he and
Marion moved to Richmond Hill and John joined his father in medical
practice. Because his father was already known to the community
as 'Dr. WILSON',
John▼ became known to many colleagues and patients
as 'Dr. John', a name by which many Friends continued to know
him through the years. When World War 2 began, John enlisted
(1940) in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a medical officer and
served overseas with the 407 'Demon' Squadron, between April,
1944 and November, 1945, attaining the rank of Squadron Leader.
John was also mentioned in dispatches. After the war John and
Marion, with their two boys, John and Doug, first resided in
East York and later, for many years, in Leaside. During these
years he joined the staff of the Hospital for Sick Children and
established a highly-respected pediatric practice in the north
part of Toronto. In 1967 John accepted an appointment as Chief
of Pediatrics at the newly-built Scarborough Centenary Hospital.
During the following years, until his retirement in 1984, he
experienced all the challenges of being at the leading edge of
pediatric care in a community-focused hospital. Many innovations,
particularly those aimed at supporting parents in the care of
their sick children, were developed at Scarborough Centenary
Hospital at that time. It was also during this time that John
began a long and dedicated commitment to the Uxbridge Cottage
Hospital. After retiring, John and Marion divided their time
between life at their beloved Quaker Ridge Farm in Uxbridge and
their winter home, and many Friends, at Lake Fairways in North
Fort Myers, Florida. In recent years John and Marion remained
active and enthusiastic members of the Uxbridge community enjoying
golf, Friends and community activities. John was always sustained
by the things he loved the most - his devoted family, his Friends,
his faith, his love of the care of children and his many memories
of a life well-lived. His family, Friends and community now celebrate
that wonderful life. Visitation will take place at the Low and
Low Uxbridge Chapel, 23 Main Street, Uxbridge, Ontario (905 852
3073) on Thursday, February 10th, 7: 00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., and
on Friday, February 11th, 2: 00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. The family would
like to extend special thanks to Dr. Brian
BATTEN and the staff
of the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital for their gentle and skilled
care, especially during the past two weeks. At John and Marion's
request, a memorial service will be held with the family at a
later time. Instead of flowers the family would appreciate donations
to the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital Foundation or a charity of choice.

interest in a military career, won a commission and was eventually
given command of the Queen's Own Rifles. At the outbreak of the
First World War, he left for France at the head of a battalion

WILSON,
Dr.▲
W.▲
John,▲ M.D., (F.R.C.P.C)
Passed away peacefully at Uxbridge Cottage Hospital on Saturday,
February 5th, 2005. John is sadly missed and proudly remembered
by his beloved wife, Marion, his sons, John (Susanne) and Douglas
(Susan,▲) granddaughters, Erin (Rick
ANDREWS) and Sarah (Ken
MERCER,)
his extended family and the many Friends, colleagues and patients
whose lives he touched over 91 years. John's earliest years were
spent in the Kirkland Lake area where his father, Dr. John P.
WILSON, carried on a general practice serving the local mining
communities. Later, the family relocated to Richmond Hill where
John grew up, together with his sister Olive "Betty" and brothers
Fred and Eric. In 1937 John realized his dream of following his
father into medicine, graduating from the University of Toronto
with a specialty in pediatrics. While at medical school John
met Marion
ROGERS, who was then nursing at the Hospital for Sick
Children. John and Marion were married on July 15th, 1939 and
there began a love that simply grew and inspired all those who
knew them. John never missed an opportunity to speak lovingly
of "my bride", words he could barely express without choking
up, they were so deeply felt. After they were married he and
Marion moved to Richmond Hill and John joined his father in medical
practice. Because his father was already known to the community
as "Dr. WILSON,"
John▲ became known to many colleagues and patients
as "Dr. John", a name by which many Friends continued to know
him through the years. When World War 2 began, John enlisted
(1940) in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a medical officer and
served overseas with the 407 "Demon" Squadron, between April,
1944 and November, 1945, attaining the rank of Squadron Leader.
Visitation will take place at the Low and
Low Uxbridge Chapel, 23 Main Street, Uxbridge, Ontario (905 852-3073)
on Thursday, February 10th, 7: 00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., and
on Friday,
February 11th, 2: 00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. The family would like to
extend special thanks to Dr. Brian
BATTEN and the staff of the
Uxbridge Cottage Hospital for their gentle and skilled care,
especially during the past two weeks. At John and Marion's request,
a memorial service will be held with the family at a later time.
Instead of flowers the family would appreciate donations to the
Uxbridge Cottage Hospital Foundation or a charity of choice.
