Kay was born at R.R.#2 Belmont on December 31, 1912, the daughter of the late Lorne and Emma (CORLESS) SHAIN. She graduated from London Normal School and was a retired teacher. She taught at North Dorchester and also worked at the Saint Thomas-Elgin General Hospital. Kay was a member of Centre Street Baptist Church over 50 years, the Mission Circle, Keenager Seniors Group, Club #37 and Valleyview Drop-in Centre. Resting at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin Street, Saint Thomas, where the funeral service will be held Monday at 1: 00 p.m. Interment in Elmdale Cemetery. Beloved mother of Martha of Montreal, Dewar and Patricia of Harrow, Cynthia and Stephen LEVY of Windsor, and Nora and Michael ALLISON of Oshawa. Loved Granny of Sean, Brendon and Hilary LAING, and Alexandra LEVY. Survived also by her sister, Carol Hudson RYKERT of Collingwood and her sister-in-law Joyce MEANWELL of Owen Sound. As a volunteer, Ann served as president of King Edward Home and School, the Maycourt Club, the American Women's Club, Windsor Group Therapy Project and Quester's Maple Leaf Chapter. She served two terms on the Maryvale School Board, Iona College Board and the Salvation Army Advisory Board. For several years, she was active as an Ambassador of Tourism, where she promoted Windsor and Essex County. She was a life member of the Art Gallery of Windsor Volunteer Committee, Friends of Canterbury and the Essex Golf and Country Club. A mezzo soprano, she sang in the All Saints' Church choir and was a former member of the Windsor Symphony Chorus. Visiting in the Walter D. Husband, best friend and soul mate of Carol (née DICKINSON.) Devoted and loving father of Sue, Judy BERKIN and her husband Steve, and Kim all of London. Adored grandfather (Bampa) of Emma and Laura. Brother of Arlene SKRYNSKI of Burlington, Debbie CASTLE and her husband Gord of Aurora, and brother-in-law of Jean and Michael MEARS of London, Connie MASSICOTTE of Whitby and Anne EBSWORTH of England. Doug touched the lives of his nephews, nieces and relatives here and in England. He proudly became a surrogate grandpa to Amber and Lindsay. Doug enjoyed 30 years as a proud employee of 3M Canada and became known as "Mr. Post-It". Since retiring from 3M he served as a board member of The Kidney Foundation as well as being involved with the 3M retirees. The world has lost a shining star with Doug leaving us much too soon. She will be sadly missed by her five grandchildren Greg and Jodi HASKETT, Heather HASKETT, Will and Stephanie HASKETT, Brandon HASKETT amd Spencer HASKETT and by great grandchildren Sierra, Sydney and Christian HASKETT. She is survived by one sister Gladys HEWITT of Mount Elgin. Predeceased by her parents Robert HOWARD (1938) and Edith BOXALL (1953,) brothers Roy, Stanley, Gordon, and Cecil HOWARD, sisters Edythe BAUMAN/BOWMAN, Irene HUGHES, Myrtle SIMS and Helen MEATHERALL. Relatives and Friends may call at the Glendinning Funeral Home, 40 William Street, Plattsville on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be conducted at the Chesterfield United Church Thursday December 1, 2005 at 11: 00 a.m. Lay Pastoral Minister-in-Training Maggie PLANT officiating. Interment in the Harris Street Cemetery, Ingersoll. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Chesterfield United Church (cheques accepted) would be appreciated by the family.
