Born October 22, 1915 in Hatfield, England. Passed away peacefully at Sunnybrook Veterans Hospital on January 12, 2005. Stanley served in the British army during World War 2. He is predeceased by his wife Eleanor and survived by his loving children Jill, Nancy (Lorne) and Ross and his grandchildren Alissa, David, Angela and Tessa. Also by his sister Kathleen WARREN of Portage La Prairie, Manitoba and brother Geoff MADDAMS of London, England. Cremation will be followed by a private ceremony. The family wishes to thank the nursing staff and volunteers at Sunnybrook's K wing for their excellent care of our father for many years. Dear brother of Edward and his wife June and Irene SLATTER. Also survived by his grandchildren, Bradley and Vicky MILLER and by his sister-in-law Pauline BENFORD. William (Bill) B., age 91, of Woodstock passed away in hospital in London on Wednesday May 4, 2005. Beloved husband of Jean PIERCE (PATTINSON) of Woodstock and father of Beverly of Chicago and Mary of London. Special Grandfather of Avril and Madeline LANG of London and Father-in-law of Quintin LANG. Uncle of Mary MADDEN, Margaret JAMES and Tommy KIDD of Ireland. Predeceased by his brother Francis, sister Eleanor and sister Annie, all of Ireland.
Bill was born in Ballyroebuck, County Wexford, Ireland in 1914. He emigrated to Canada in 1949 and lived and worked in Woodstock for 55 years. He was a dedicated employee at Standard Tube Limited, a long time member of All Saints Anglican Church where he sang in the choir. He was an enthusiast in the Knox Presbyterian Church men's disking league for over 40 years. He had a passion for gardening and carpentry which he enjoyed extensively until his 90th year. At the age of 66, after an inspiring and brave battle with a brain tumour, Bill died at Freeport Hospital on Sunday, August 7, 2005. Beloved husband of Patricia (NIX) for over 40 years. Proud and loving father of daughters Wendy and her husband Mike KELLY and Lori and her husband Tom MADDEN. Adoring and adored Papa to Kristin and Liam KELLY and Brynne and Ben MADDEN. Bill is survived by his mother, Claire HERZOG and father-in-law Robert NIX and his wife Ellen. Bill was a loving brother to Shirley (Charlie) DAUB, Karen (Dave) KOWALSKI and Ron HERZOG and his wife Jan. Also survived by sisters-in-law Wendy NIX and Barbara PITCHER and brother-in-law Ken NIX and his wife Cathy. His many nieces, nephews, cousins and surviving aunts and uncles, will lovingly remember Bill. Predeceased by his father Anthony HERZOG and his mother-in-law Helen NIX. Bill had a long and revered career with both Zehrs Markets and Loblaw Companies, retiring from the position of Senior Vice President of Finance with Loblaw Companies East at the end of 2000. Bill's name conveys many things to so many people. He was a proud man who loved his life, his family and his Friends. He valued his community and worked hard to support the causes he was so passionate about. Bill was past President of the KW Racquet Club, Westmount Golf and Country Club and the Kitchener Conestoga Rotary Club, where he was presented with a Paul Harris Fellowship Award. Upon his retirement in 2000, he put his many talents to volunteering in the community and has served on many committees and boards including the Saint Mary's Hospital Foundation, Kids Ability Foundation, President's Choice Children's Charity and the W. Garfield Weston Foundation in Toronto. Bill took advantage of everything that life could offer him. He loved to travel and share his adventures and 'finds' with those close to him. He was an athlete who excelled at every sport he tried and who followed sports with passion and enthusiasm. Bill loved to spend time with his Friends and embraced the opportunity to meet new people. He was an avid supporter of the Stratford Festival and enjoyed relaxing with dear Friends over a wonderful bottle of wine. Bill will be warmly remembered for his clipping and sharing of newspaper and magazine articles. To receive an envelope of clippings from Bill was to know that this incredibly special man was thinking of you. For many, those envelopes will be sadly missed. Visitation will be held at Edward R. Good Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo, on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The funeral mass to remember and celebrate Bill's life will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2005 at 10: 30 a.m. at St. Louis Roman Catholic Church, 53 Allen Street East, Waterloo, with Reverend Bernie HAYNES, CR, as celebrant. Following cremation, a private family committal will take place at Williamsburg Cemetery, Kitchener. Following the mass, Friends and relatives are invited to Westmount Golf and Country Club for refreshments and an opportunity to visit with the family. Peacefully at Rideaucrest Home on Monday, September 19, 2005. Mary Isabelle (née SIMPSON,) in her 93rd year. Beloved wife of the late Douglas Gordon (Ben) CUNNINGHAM, Q.C., LLD. Loving mother of Douglas (Jane) CUNNINGHAM of Toronto, Ian (Jan COOMBER) of Oakville, and Kathleen CUNNINGHAM of Kingston. Loving Nanny Bud of Michael, Darren and Sarah CUNNINGHAM, Ben and Jennifer CUNNINGHAM, and Christopher and David MADDEN. Dear sister of John SIMPSON of Ottawa and the late Donald SIMPSON of Halifax.
Bud was a thoughtful, inquisitive and determined woman of great strength of character. Graduating as an R.N. from Kingston General Hospital in 1934, she continued in this caring role until she and Ben married in 1939. Like so many others at the time, for nearly 5 years, she remained at home while Ben was at war. What a life they had, blessed with a loving family and wonderful Friends. Bud made lasting Friendships wherever she went. Her love of travel took her to many and sometimes unusual places. Bud was a keen golfer and received a life membership to her beloved Cataraqui as the member of longest standing. Bud and Ben both loved boating and shared many wonderful adventures together. Her love of music was almost legendary, something she instilled in her children and grandchildren. She will be deeply missed. Iain▲ is survived by his mother Helen, his mother and father-in-law Alex and Cynthia COLLEY. He will be missed by his sisters Lynn (Rudy) MADER, Pat▲ DAHLBERG and their respective families and fondly missed by his brothers-in-law Ralph (Mathilde,) and David (Susan) COLLEY and their families. Iain will be remembered by his many Friends and co-workers after a 37 year career as a Locomotive Engineer with Via Rail. In respect of Iain's wishes, private family services were entrusted to the Andrews Community Funeral Centre.
