One man killed
A Mt. Brydges man is dead following an accident that caused a train derailment near Melbourne last Tuesday. A northbound tank truck carrying water collided with an eastbound freight train at the Melbourne Road crossing just north of Glendon Drive at about 7: 30 a.m. The first Melbourne firefighters arrived on the scene within three minutes of receiving the call. Forty-five-year-old James LONGDO was killed in the accident. Dense fog was a contributing factor in the incident, according to Strathroy-Caradoc Police. The force of the collision broke a coupling on the train, causing 14 of its 87 cars to derail. Tank cars labelled as containing anhydrous ammonia, a highly toxic substance, were just a few cars behind the section of cars that was derailed, although there was no information as to whether the cars were full at the time of the accident. A section of Melbourne Road was closed for several days while Canadian Pacific Rail crews removed the damaged rail cars and repaired the tracks.

ROBERTSON- MORRIS, Bessie -- Dispatch:
By Jordan PRESS, Saturday, March 19, 2005 Page M6
Bessie ROBERTSON- MORRIS had high standards, even after she retired from teaching dance.
Former student Marie-Anne LONGLADE- LINK, who now runs her own dance school, sent her old teacher videos from competitions and shows for input.
"There's too much black," Mrs. ROBERTSON- MORRIS told her over the phone days before she died. "You haven't got rid of all the black."
That was on a Sunday. On the following Thursday, February 10, Mrs. ROBERTSON- MORRIS died of a heart attack. She was 87.
Mrs. ROBERTSON- MORRIS was an only child born in Montreal on April 23, 1917. In 1943 she married Dan SHEARER, killed in 1944 in the Second World War. She then married James MORRIS in 1950 and had two boys. Her second husband died in 2001.
At the age of 16, Mrs. ROBERTSON- MORRIS founded an eponymous dance school in Toronto. In 1962, Mrs. ROBERTSON- MORRIS left the school, which still has two studios today.
But she attended as many recitals as she could, even after moving to Calgary in 1993. "It was her life until she sold the school," her son Peter MORRIS says. "It was all she did."
Mrs. ROBERTSON- MORRIS was an expert at tap and ballet and expected the same of her students, says Margaret CAULFIELD, a former pupil who now runs the school. "You had to do things exactly right."
And Mrs. ROBERTSON- MORRIS is still giving directions through her onetime apprentices. Ms. LONGLAIDE- LINK says she tells her classes one of Mrs. ROBERTSON- MORRIS's favourite lines when they forget what they've learned: "I gave you that step...and now it's gone."
