William Archibald (Archie) MacPHERSON, passed away at the St. Thomas Elgin-General Hospital on Monday, February 7, 2005, in his 85th year following a lengthy illness. Archie will be sadly missed by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy (Dot) (LEWIS) MacPHERSON his dearly loved children, Lynda and the late Wayne WOWK, Bill and Jean MacPHERSON, and Don and Diane MacPHERSON; his grandchildren, David and Twyla WOWK, Christopher WOWK, Karyn and Jeremy LINDSTROM, Kathy, Laura and Jim MacPHERSON, Heather and Bill TODD, and Beth MacPHERSON; and great-grandchildren, Riley, Owen, and Hannah WOWK. Archie was predeceased by his parents, Truman and Adeline (MARR) MacPHERSON, and his sister Jean TAIT/TAITE/TATE and her husband Don.
Born August 8th, 1920 Archie spent his early years in the Pond Mills area of London and lived most of his married life in North Yarmouth, operating Talbot Sand and Gravel for many years. During his lifetime, he was involved in various sports in the Pond Mills, Glanworth and Belmont communities. Resting at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin Street, Saint Thomas where visitation will be held on Friday, February 11 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., with the funeral service at 11: 00 a.m. on Saturday, February 12. It is with sadness the family announces the passing of Richard George (Dick) YOUNG in his 95th year, at precisely 4: 30 p.m. at the Brant Centre, Burlington. We are thankful his passing was gentle and peaceful. Devoted husband of 54 years of the late Grace Elizabeth LINDSTROM (1996.) Cherished Dad of Tom and Maggie YOUNG (Scarborough,) Sheila YOUNG (Toronto) and Susan and Ross STEPHEN (Burlington.) Loved and respected "Grandfather" of Jillian STEPHEN and her husband Allan FLETCHER, Richard YOUNG, Jennifer YOUNG, Jocelyn STEPHEN and Philip STEPHEN. Delighted Great-Grandfather of Kate FLETCHER. Predeceased by siblings overseas Nell, Art, Dib, Mais, Vi and Jack. Survived by his youngest brother, Stan (England). Dad immigrated to Canada in 1926 as a farmhand. Later he joined the Canadian National Railway working as a labourer, storekeeper, inspector and then Manager of Stores within the St. Lawrence Region. He was proud to be recruited by C.I.D.A. and pleased to spend the last 5 years of this 35-year career with C.N.R. as a consultant to the Zambian Railway, facilitating the development of the Purchasing and Stores Department, then retiring to Toronto in 1976. A "better than average" golfer he enjoyed the Zambian climate and the opportunity to golf 364 days a year. He always enjoyed family visits and wee Kate elicited special smiles. The family is grateful to Dr. Chris RAGONETTI and the staff at The Brant Centre for their care, compassion and respect throughout his stay. According to his expressed wishes there will be no funeral service. The family will receive Friends at the Morley Bedford Funeral Home, 159 Eglinton Ave. W. Passed away peacefully at Mt. Sinai Hospital on May 4, 2005, just four days short of her 89th birthday. So many of us will miss her warm smile, her gentle ways and the feisty spirit that kept her going to the end. She is mourned by her children, Franklin and Terry RICHMOND and by their spouses, Milli RICHMOND and Doug WARD, whom she embraced as children of her own. She was the very proud grandmother of Laura and Julia RICHMOND, and of Sarah and Carley RICHMOND- WARD, and recently welcomed Julia's husband Stephen FROMSTEIN into the family. She is survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Dorothy shared her life for more than 35 years with her beloved husband, Eddie, who died in 1982. Dorothy was also predeceased by her sisters, Carlotta and Helen, and by her brothers, Mac, Leonard and Murray. Her children are grateful for the kindness and devotion many have shown Dorothy in recent years

Survived by her sisters Marianne, Sr. Barbara and Ethel and predeceased by siblings Bill and Katie. LINGLEY, Phyllis Mabel (née RANKINE)
Died on Monday, July 18, 2005, in Capitola, California. She lived to the ripe old age of 83. She had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in April and was receiving care and counseling by the Hospice Caring Project of Santa Cruz during her stay at Pacific Coast Manor in Capitola. Phyllis was born on October 9, 1921 in Norval, Ontario, Canada. Her parents were John and Edith RANKINE of Ontario. As a young adult she lived in Toronto, Ontario, where she attended and graduated from Business School, got married and had her family. In 1955 she moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, with her husband and three children. In 1960 the family moved to Santa Clara, California, where she worked as a secretary for the Boy Scouts of America. Later she worked at Stanford University in the Graduate School of Business. Eventually she became the office manager for the Trane Corporation in Sunnyvale for more than 20 years where she retired in 1984 at the age of 62. Phyllis had three brothers and one sister, Jack, Charlie, Doug and Hilda. Her parents and siblings predeceased her. Many loving family members in Canada survive her. In the California area her three children and their families, Paul and Janyce MACK of Pleasant Hill, Peter and Monica MACK of Castro Valley, and Suzanne and Robert "Bucky" HARRIS of Scott's Valley, survive her. Phyllis has three grandchildren, Alison McCLOSKEY, Courtney and Ryan MACK, and one great-grand_son, Rockwell "Rocky" McCLOSKEY. Phyllis is remembered as a hard working office manager, loving mother and wife , fun loving friend, superior cook and hostess, generous and giving spirit, spectacular grandmother to Alison, Courtney and Ryan, and awesome bridge player. She will also be remembered for her affectionate and warm heart, her ability to have fun and her extreme loyalty to family. A service is planned on August 7 at Cedar Lawn in Fremont, California, according to her wishes, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Robert Mackenzie LINGLEY. Seven-year-old boy dies in hospital a day after his brother drowned

Fergus -- Already reeling from the drowning of their nine-year-old boy, a Toronto family was faced with a mounting tragedy last night as their seven-year-old son died in a Toronto hospital.
Calvin LE had been in critical care at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto after a swimming accident that killed his brother Larry on Sunday.
The LE family spent the day shuttling between the Hospital for Sick Children and the McMaster Medical Centre in Hamilton, where a third son, eight-year-old Anthony, is being treated. Anthony's condition was upgraded to fair from serious yesterday.
The three children were involved in a horrifying incident at a beach in the Belwood Lake Conservation Area near Fergus on Sunday afternoon. The boys were swimming in the shallow water when someone noticed that Anthony was in trouble. He was pulled from the water and bystander Eddie RIVERA began to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The boy's mother was apparently in such shock that she momentarily forgot about her two other sons who had also slipped under the water.
After a frantic 10-minute search, the two boys were pulled from the bottom by Mr. RIVERA of Kitchener, who had just finished reviving Anthony using cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Mr. RIVERA, 28, told the Guelph Mercury that he dove deep into the water and scooped the two boys from the lake bottom, carrying them to the surface.
"It was just cold and dark," he said yesterday. "I knew I was going to run into a face. I guess I was more or less scared."
The boys were swimming at a former quarry site that has been transformed into a bathing area. The designated swimming zone, which is about one metre deep, is roped off with a floating line of white buoys. Beyond that line, the bottom drops off sharply, reaching a depth of five metres in the centre.
There are no lifeguards on duty, nor is there any supervision. Large signs near the beach warn parents that the beach patrol service, which operated until 1996, has been discontinued and that the safety of their children is their responsibility.
Yesterday, the Grand River Conservation Authority, which is responsible for the area, said it would examine safety procedures at all of its beaches in the wake of this incident and another recent drowning near Cambridge, Ontario
Dave SCHULTZ, spokesman for the conservation authority, said the review would likely examine issues such as signage and emergency procedures and might consider the question of staffing.
He said the beach patrol was discontinued partly for financial reasons and partly because it was thought to provide parents with a false sense of security. Members of the beach patrol were not trained lifeguards but watched swimmers.
Mr. SCHULTZ said budget cuts that were accelerated under the government of Mike Harris reduced the conservation authority's funding by several million dollars. A 1996 report to the authority's planning committee recommended cutting the beach patrol service because it was being phased out in other areas of the province and because it would save about $50,000 a year.
At Sick Kids hospital yesterday, more than half a dozen family members, many fighting tears, crowded into a corner of the waiting room of the critical-care unit.
In Hamilton, Le LINH, an uncle from Guelph, was with the boys' parents as they sat at Anthony's bedside.
He said their mother is very upset, but added that he didn't know much more.
"They don't talk too much, so I don't know exactly what happened. I just know they've [the children] been drowned in the water," he said.
He added that he thinks Anthony's condition is improving.
"He's a little bit awake and then they are going to take the tube out," he said. "Once in a while, he is moving and trying to wake up, but he can hear."
At the boys' elementary school, St. Jane Frances Catholic School on Jane Street in North York, principal Maria CIOPPA said the community was shocked and saddened by the news.
Larry's Grade 4 teacher, Maria LA REGINA, said he was a creative child with a mischievous smile. He was so small he would often be confused for a Grade 1 pupil and was known for his funny dances.
Mary Jo DEIGHAN, a spokeswoman for the Catholic School Board, said counselling services will be provided at the school for the next several days.
"This shows how important it is to look after children," Ms. DEIGHAN said. "Never let them out of your sight, not even for a second."
