With sadness, the family of Victor LAPADAT at West Lorne announces his passing on Monday, April 11, 2005 at Saint Thomas-Elgin General Hospital in his 81st year. He was beloved husband of Grace (KOVACS.) Dear father to three sons Victor Jr. (Sandy) and their family, Steve and Sam. Loving grandfather to Melanie DOCHERTY (John,) Sarah McCURDY (Joel,) Sam LAPADAT (Margaret;) and four great-grandchildren. Predeceased by brother Steve; survived by sister-in-law Eva. Victor was a well known tobacco farmer in the area and inventor of the Eagle-Tie tobacco tying machine. Memorial service will be conducted at Saint John's Presbyterian Church, 237 Monroe Street, Rodney on Saturday, April 16th at 11: 00 a.m., Reverend R. SINASAC officiating. Cremation has taken place. Friends are invited to meet with the family one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Thameswood Lodge or charity of choice would be appreciated. Norman Frederick COLLINS, aged 84, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Friday, May 6, 2005 at Bluewater Health, Palliative Care, Sarnia. Beloved Husband of Sarah COLLINS (WARDE). Dear Father of Frederick and wife Elaine, of Sarnia, John and wife Linda, of Chatham, Mary and husband Guy LAPENSEE, of Corunna, Loretta and husband Bill PRYOR, Sarnia and Jane MORRISON (COLLINS) of Corunna. Loving grandfather of Fred Jr., Michael Edward "Teddy", Josh COLLINS, Michele, Shannon, Shawn COLLINS, Theresa, Jacqueline, Suzanne, Renee LAPENSEE, Lisa, Steven, Jennifer, Meara PRYOR, Nicole, and Jamie MORRISON. Great-grandfather of Jessica COLLINS, Wesley and Owen COLLINS. Brother of Clarence and wife Mary COLLINS of Niagara Falls, and Lauretta and Roy SALISBURY of Barrie. After serving his country in World War 2 under the Lorne Scots Regiment stationed in England, he fought in France, Holland, Belgium and Germany. He married his lovely wife Sarah in Sutton, England in 1943. N.F. Collins Construction Limited was established soon after and was a major part of the home development in the Sarnia area since 1952. Approximately 200 custom homes were built. Norm and Sally resided and raised their five children in Sarnia. In his later years Norm resided at Rosewood Manor Retirement Home in Sarnia. Norm will be lovingly remembered and missed by his family and many good Friends. Special thanks to the nursing staff at Bluewater Health, Palliative Care and staff and Friends at Rosewood Manor. Mabel worked for the University of Toronto from April 1966 to April 1984. Beloved wife of Leonard GILLETT (predeceased 1976.) Loving mother of Judith HUGHES, Thornbury. Cherished grandmother of William CRAMPTON and his wife Mary, and Susan CRAMPTON. Great-grandmother of Avery, Cameron, Mathew and step-great-granddaughter Emma. Dear daughter of the late John and Florence POWELL. Dear sister of Ernestine POWELL of North York. Passed away peacefully on December 24, 2005 after a long and courageous battle with cancer at the age of 51 years. Her strength and determination were respected and admired by all who knew her. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear and beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother in her 95th year on Sunday, October 2, 2005. She is predeceased by her husband Ed COOPER. She was the devoted mother and mother-in-law of Betty and Franz COMPEER, of Mississauga, Jean (COOPER) CRAWFORD of Toronto and Ed COOPER and Marsha ZUEST of Milton. She was an extraordinary grandmother to Catherine LYLE (LAPLANTE,) Brian and Douglas LYLE, Dan CRAWFORD and Melissa (CHANDLER) Crawford, and Sam and Ben COOPER and a great grandmother to Christopher, Bradley and Mitchell. Grace will be warmly remembered for her love of family and Friends, travelling and all things that grew in gardens. She welcomed all to her home especially her travelling Friends, nephews and nieces who dropped in as they were on their way across the country and around the world. She loved to travel and continued to do so well into her late 80's. On these adventures she made many Friends whom she corresponded with over the years. She was always intensely interested in where you had been and what you had seen. Her other great love was gardening and she could quite literally grow anything. During her many travels her destination was usually a garden that she had read about. She shared her love of plants with many others and was a 50 year member of the Cloverleaf Garden Club. She had great respect for education as she had earned her Registered Nursing Certificate from the University of Alberta during the Depression and as such encouraged and supported her grandchildren at universities and colleges. Died February 21, 2005 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. Born January 12, 1914, Calgary, Alberta. Early years on Blackfoot Indian Reserve in Gleichen, Alberta. Raised with her sister Wayne, by her aunt and uncle, Gertrude and Hooper HORNE in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. Attended Prince Street School, Prince of Wales College and MacDonald College in Montreal. Married Gordon MacDONALD in 1935. During World War 2, participated in Civil Defense and organized School Improvement League to reform Charlottetown's educational system. Elected as one of first women School Trustees. Founding president of Prince Edward Island Home and School Association and also Provincial Commissioner of the Canadian Girl Guides. From 1950's on, broadcaster with CFCY and Canadian Broadcasting Corporation radio and television. Went on to create 1500 interviews of oral history. Author of countless briefs, articles and letters to the editor; Leadership in the Maritime Religious Education Council, the Atlantic Christian Education Centre, in local, national and international church endeavours. Active in Young Men's Christian Association, Vanier Institute, Voice of Women, National Council of Women, Status of Women, Women and the Constitution, Association for the Mentally Handicapped, Global Assembly on Food Security and Toastmasters. In 1967 awarded the Centennial Medal of Canada and in 1968 an Honorary LL.D. from St. Dunstan's University. Swimmer, Skater, Yoga, golf champion and tennis instructor. She was committed to a life of intense curiosity, being at the centre of things, challenging youth, a mentor and inspiration to all those whom she met. She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon who died in Ethiopia in 1987. She is survived by her son David and her daughter Wayne (Ronald STOREY;) and by her sister, Wayne (Charles LORWAY.) Fondly remembered by grandchildren, Kim STOREY (Ross MacDOUGALL), Margo STOREY (Rod MURPHY), Craig STOREY (Carol), Helen MacDONALD (Gregg LAPOINT), Kathryn MacDONALD (Chima McLEAN), Sue Ann MacDONALD (Alain BELAIR) and Gordon MacDONALD. Survived also by nine great grand children, Eileigh, Kyle, Alasdair, Callahan, Ryland, MacKenzie, Hudson, Davna and Guillaume. LAPOINTE, Cyril Malcolm " MAC"
former Chief Librarian of The Montreal Star, peacefully January 25, 2005 at the age of 96. Eldest son of the late Joseph Leo LAPOINTE and the late Harriet Elizabeth "Hattie" BRAY, he was born on December 12, 1908 at Webwood, Ontario.
On November 22, 1927 he joined the editorial department of John Dougall and Son, Montreal, publishers of Witness and Canadian Homestead, World Wide and Northern Messenger, on which he served until all but the latter ceased publication at the end of April 1938. In this period he was a member of the Montreal Branch of the Canadian Authors Association and the Newspaper Guild. For two years he was secretary of the Montreal Branch of the League for Social Reconstruction and in 1938, briefly, National Secretary of the League for Social Reconstruction. In 1925, during an emergency in the federal election campaign, he was Chairman of the Interim Executive Committee of the Cooperative Commonwealth Federation in the province of Quebec.
On June 6, 1938 he became Assistant to the News Editor of The Family Herald and Weekly Star and continued in various editorial responsibilities until July 12, l949 when he was transferred to the Library of The Montreal Star. He retired from that work at the end of 1973.

Mr. LAPOINTE was a Canadian with a lifelong commitment to democracy. His paternal ancestor was Nicolas Audet dit LAPOINTE, born in 1641 to Innocent Audet dit LAPOINTE and Vincente REINE of St. Pierre de Maillé, Poitiers, Poitou (now Department of Vienne) France. He came to Canada in 1663 and served as doorkeeper to Bishop Laval until 1670 when he became a tenant at St. Jean, Ile d'Orléans, the Bishop's seigneury. That same year Nicolas married Madeleine DESPRÉS of St. Sauveur de Paris.
Mac LAPOINTE's maternal ancestors were yeomen who came to Canada in 1842 from Buckinghamshire, England, but his earliest known forbearer was Thomas Spier(s) of Drayton St. Leonard, Oxfordshire, who was married around 1555.

Retired National Research Council of Canada. Passed away peacefully at the Civic Hospital on January 5, 2005. Daughter of the late Claude TIENNET and Rose PROULX. Wife of the late Charles H. HINCHEY. Predeceased by her sister Jeanne, her sister-in-law Eva (Albert) and her brothers-in-law Bert (Irene), George (Lucienne), Leo (Paulette), Henri and Romeo. Sadly missed by her niece Margo (Jean TROTTIER,) her grandnieces and grandnephews Diane, Lucie, Michel and Jean Pierre (Ailsa), and by her very good Friends Margaret DUNLOP (Ken GIBSON) and their children Elizabeth, Rebecca, Craig and Mark, Lucie LAPOINTE (Clive WILLIS) and her daughter Lauren, and Jean SHEEHY. Also missed by a number of great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews and many Friends. Madeleine had a wonderful love for life. As a friend, "Grandma", and "Ma Tante", she brought her infectious optimism and happiness to all who were close to her. Madeleine was born in Toronto in 1922 but resided in Hull and Ottawa most of her life. She had a very successful career at the National Research Council of Canada, retiring as the Secretary General to Council in 1984. She was the first woman at the Council to hold a number of senior management positions including chairing the selection committee for Canada's first slate of astronauts. Her passion for the Council and its work was well known. Thank you to all the staff at the Civic Hospital who took such good care of her. She leaves a great hole in our lives. LAPOINTE, Cyril Malcolm " MAC"
Former Chief Librarian of The Montreal Star, peacefully January 25, 2005 at the age of 96. Eldest son of the late Joseph Leo LAPOINTE and the late Harriet Elizabeth "Hattie" BRAY, he was born on December 12, 1908 at Webwood, Ontario. On November 22, 1927 he joined the editorial department of John Dougall and Son, Montreal, publishers of Witness and Canadian Homestead, World Wide and Northern Messenger, on which he served until all but the latter ceased publication at the end of April 1938. In this period he was a member of the Montreal Branch of the Canadian Authors Association and the Newspaper Guild. For two years he was secretary of the Montreal Branch of the League for Social Reconstruction and in 1938, briefly, National Secretary of the League for Social Reconstruction. In 1925, during an emergency in the federal election campaign, he was Chairman of the Interim Executive Committee of the Cooperative Commonwealth Federation in the province of Quebec. On June 6, 1938 he became Assistant to the News Editor of The Family Herald and Weekly Star and continued in various editorial responsibilities until July 12, 1949 when he was transferred to the Library of The Montreal Star. He retired from that work at the end of 1973.
