Of Hyde Park, passed away peacefully with family by his side at the London Health Sciences Centre - University Campus on Thursday, December 8th, 2005. Loving husband for 58 years of Elfreda and caring father of Sylvia (Mike) WOLKOWYSKI, Mavis (Bill) LAKE and Chris GRANZIOL. Proud Poppa of Justin GRANZIOL, Sarah GRANZIOL and special Poppa to Nicole WHITE/WHYTE. Brother of Mildred, Edith and Brian in England. Predeceased by his parents Charles and Elizabeth GOOCH, brothers Albert, Edward and Harry and sister Ivy. Jack was born in England on January 17, 1918 and proudly served in the British Army during the Second World War. He moved with his family to Canada in April 1957. Following numerous jobs on farms in the London area, he became a Custodian with the London Board of Education where he worked in several London elementary and secondary schools. HINKE, Joseph Anthony
Died the last day of 2004 after a long struggle with lung cancer. He was a native Vancouverite. Always inventive, innovative and a natural problem solver, he was delighted to have the good luck to be paid to do the Science he loved. A graduate of U.B.C. Medical School, he interned at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal and then spent two years of study and research in England where he invented a sodium- sensitive and a potassium-sensitive glass microelectrode. He taught and researched in U.B.C.'s Anatomy Department for sixteen years before Chairing the Department of Anatomy at the University of Ottawa. From University life his second career began when he co-founded Thermal Energy International Inc. with his son, Tom in 1991 and became Vice President of Research & Development when the Company went public. He was the primary inventor of the Company's patented air pollution control technology. Over the past 10 years his scientific and engineering work was key to the development of a cost-effective remedy for the reduction of air pollution emissions from smoke stacks and the prevention of harmful smog containing heavy metals. His ultimate retirement took him back home to his beautiful West Coast and boating aboard "The Good Life" -- always a challenge and adventure. Joe died at his home in Comox in the company of his family. He is survived by the family he always had humour and time for: his wife, Liz sons, Joe, Tom and Jeremy and their wives, Barb CORNISH, Elena SHULKOV, and Christine HINKE; grandchildren, Matti and Lisa LAKE- HINKE, Dante DECARIA- HINKE, Daniel HINKE, Tamaya, Brianna and Savannah HINKE; sisters, Mary KIDD and Dorry LUSHER and brothers-in-law, Dick KIDD and Irving LUSHER. LEISHMAN, Gertrude Eileen " Trudy" (née LAKE)
Passed away peacefully at Lions Gate Hospital on January 28th, 2005. She recently celebrated her 90th birthday on November 3rd. She was born in Fortune, Newfoundland in 1914, she grew up in Saint John's where her father was the founder of H.B. Clyde Lake Fisheries Ltd. and the representative for Lloyd's of London and Minister of Fisheries. Trudy graduated in nursing from Montreal General Hospital in 1936 and went overseas with the #1 Canadian Army Medical Corps where she met Dr. John LEISHMAN, a urologist from Shoal Lake, Manitoba. They married in England on June 20th, 1942. Trudy was predeceased by her husband John; and brothers Spencer and Harold LAKE, and sister Beatrice ELLWOOD. Trudy is survived by her eldest sister Margaret, sister in law Robbie LAKE and brother in law Michael ELLWOOD. She is lovingly remembered by her children, David (Kathy,) Susan (Jim) COLQUHOUN and Trudy Ann (Ian) McLACHLAN, four grand children John and Harold LEISHMAN, Michael and Steffany COLQUHOUN, and four great grandchildren Savannah, Henry, Oscar and Rose. Trudy and John lived in Regina for 18 years before moving to West Vancouver. They loved entertaining at home, traveling and snowbirding to Phoenix. Trudy will be fondly remembered by all the people she touched, and by nieces and nephews who lived afar. A special thanks to the medical staff on the 4th floor of Lions Gate Hospital for all their kindness and caregivers at Hollyburn House where she resided for nearly ten years. A celebration of life in Trudy's honour will take place on February 4th at St. David's United Church in West Vancouver, 1525 Taylor Way at 1: 30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the hospital of your choice.

She grew up surrounded by a loving family that included Germaine, Françoise (Jacques A. GOUIN,) Father Leon, s.j., Jacqueline, Madeleine, bébé René, Renée (Pierre ST- CYR,) Yves (Micheline NOËL.) She is survived by all of her siblings with the exception of Father Leon s.j. and bébé René. She met her loving husband and life partner, David C. LAKE at a badminton club in Trois-Rivieres in 1952. Through their love and dedication to each other they overcame a language barrier and courted long distance while David went to the University of Ottawa. They were married on May 28, 1960. This year was to be their fortyfifth wedding anniversary. Denyse was a dedicated and loving wife and the very best of mothers to her three children, David, Michael and Sophie. She raised her family in Montreal, Quebec until 1977, when the family moved to Calgary. As the family grew Denyse also welcomed and cared deeply for David's wife Carmen and Michael's wife Magni. She was a great Nana and will forever be remembered by her grandchildren, Danielle, Spencer, Siri, and Sonja. Denyse had an exceptionally graceful, generous and positive spirit. She certainly gave of herself unselfishly and was always dedicated to helping her family and Friends. Denyse loved to host gatherings and was an exceptional cook. She will be missed by her Friends, especially around Christmas when she always happily hosted a very special party. While we will miss her dearly, we know the light of Denyse's spirit will shine through all of those who were near to her. She will always be in our thoughts. We are certain she is watching over us and still caring for us. LAWRIE, Hazel Jean Dove (1915-2005)
Hazel Jean Dove LAWRIE, George and Mary Odell's youngest of four, passed in her sleep on Friday morning, October 21st, in her ninetyfirst year. Her leaving was as her life, peaceful and gracious. Hazel was born in Toronto where in 1938 she married her high school sweetheart from Runnymede Collegiate, Jim LAWRIE. It was just before the outbreak of World War 2, and a year later, soon after having their first son, Jim Jr.; Hazel was alone while her husband defended Canada as an officer in the Royal Canadian Navy in the North Atlantic. Those were lonely years, living with her parents on Baby Point Crescent, raising a child and working at Loblaws. With Jim Sr.'s return following the war, the family grew adding sons, Robert and Michael, and moved to their first real home on Prince Edward Drive. Nearly a decade followed in Islington Heights, where Hazel made a loving home, even while returning to her desk at Loblaws. Ever the dedicated wife, Hazel moved to Spragge, in Northern Ontario, in 1958, when Jim Sr. began his transport business. For the uptown girl, the move was challenging, leaving behind her many Friends; brothers, George and Jack; and beloved sister, Marjorie; and their growing families. But Spragge was a short, two-year stay, and the family soon moved to Mississauga, to a new life and residence - with summers on Lake Joseph and winters in Naples, Florida. After Jim passed in 1987, Hazel continued living on her own, eventually moving to Cambridge where she lived independently but relying on the continuing support of Michael and Louise and their dedicated children. Throughout her life Hazel personified gentleness. She was the rock supporting all of her family with unconditional love, and an occasional bit of spot-on guidance. To the very end she was beautiful and dignified, always inspiring her family, always calm. The last five years were especially happy as Hazel continued to draw family and welcome Friends to her gracious hospitality in her home in Cambridge and to Hawk Ridge, the family cottage on Lake Joseph. Always foremost to her family, she became the Matriarch, radiating love, wisdom, and her particular brand of good humour - one line zingers - never at anyone's expense, but always very funny. Hazel's family cherished her, and already miss her: Jim, his wife, Emily; and his three daughters, Heather, Michelle and Jennifer; and their mother, Sondra LAWRIE; Robert, and his partner, Judy MAUS; and his daughters, Katherine, and partner, Paul MALCOLM; Robyn RUTLEDGE, and husband, Rob; and Katherine and Robyn's mom, Lynne LAWRIE and Dr. Michael, and his wife, Louise; and their three children, Jamie, Jillian and Cameron. Jillian became especially close to Hazel during the last many months when she took over the joyful yet challenging role of being her Nana's primary caregiver. Others whom Hazel smiles down on include her nephews George, John, and Bill ODELL; Donald, Doug and David BLENKARN; nephew David LAKE nieces Mary BLENKARN, Jacquie JONES, and Andrea BRENNAN (ODELL) niece Susan PINCO (Doug) and their daughters Jacquie and Melissa cousins Ruth ODELL and Theresa ODELL; Judy's children, John and Trina; Emily's children, Brenda, Mark and Alan; and all the spouses, partners and families of these centering spirits. Friends and family may visit on Tuesday evening from 6: 00 to 8:30 p.m. at Turner and Porter 'Peel' Chapel, 2180 Hurontario Street (Hwy 10, north of Queen Elizabeth Way). Hazel's Memorial Service, a celebration of her life, will be held at 2: 00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 26, again at Turner and Porter. Born in Brantford, Marg studied Occupational Therapy before marrying John, whose career with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources took them to Kirkland Lake, Parry Sound, Bracebridge, Kenora and then Toronto. Wherever the family lived, Marg's steady presence and creative approach to living made it a happy and welcoming home. She will be greatly missed by many dear Friends, neighbours and family members. Loving father of Karen and her husband Paul "Hutch" HUTCHESON, Paul and his wife Sue, and Kathy and her husband Doug DALTON. Cherished Papa of Matthew, K.J., Kate, Shannon, Kirstin, Laura, Mark, and Lisa. Survived by his sisters Fran HELSON, Doris LAKE, Nora CHINNERY, and predeceased by his twin brother John Henry SANDERS. Peacefully at her home in Moonstone, after a courageous battle with cancer, with her family at her side on Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at the age of 74 years young. Maree BARTNICKI (née LAKE) was the beloved wife of George "Jerzy" BARTNICKI. Loving mother of Andrew BARTNICKI and his wife Odette, Patricia and her husband Bruce QUINN, and Janice and her husband Ernie STEPONAS. Will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren. The family will receive Friends at the Coldwater Funeral Home, 22 Sturgeon Bay Road, Coldwater, (705-686-3344 or 1-888-645-5485) on Friday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Rosary prayers will be said on Friday evening at 7: 30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint John's Roman Catholic Church, Waubaushene on Saturday, December 31st at 1: 30 p.m. Spring interment Saint John's Catholic Cemetery, Waubaushene.
