Josée also leaves to mourn her loss, her teacher and Grade 3 class at Our Lady of Sorrows School in Sturgeon Falls. On Friday, November 11, 2005 a truly caring, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Joan McRAE of Sebright, Ontario passed away suddenly in a fatal car crash. She was a strong woman persevering through some difficult times in her life, but was always there with open arms and love for all of us, always thinking of her family first. She will live in our hearts forever. It is with great sadness that we have to say goodbye to our mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, Josie GREENIS. The Lord took her to Heaven in order to relieve her pain and suffering after bravely battling Alzheimers. Our mother passed away on Tuesday, January 18th, 2005 at the age of 87 in her home at The Westmount in Kitchener, Ontario. Josie was born on December 8th, 1917 in Sarnia, Ontario, made her home in London, Ontario where she raised her family and spent her last few years in Kitchener. Daughter, sister, mother, wife, grandma, animal lover, nurse. Born February 16, 1947, in Belleville, Ontario Died April 29 in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, of respiratory failure, aged 58.
Jill was born close to Valentine's Day, and always celebrated birthdays with heart-shaped cakes -- how appropriate for a lifelong romantic and endless dreamer. Jill's own heart was big and strong her whole life, caring for people and animals, and it was her heart that fought for life even as her lungs failed.
Always an adventurer and ready for something new, Jill packed a lot into her life.
She and her three siblings were spaced over 21 years, but, being in the middle, Jill had memories of all of them at home. As a child, she loved swimming and the family summers at Oak Lake, Ontario She hated math but loved school dances.
She always told me that women didn't have many career choices in the late 1960s and used this as the basis for daily lessons on feminism. Still, Jill loved being a nursing assistant, focusing on geriatrics and, in later years, worked with mentally and physically challenged adults. She had an unwavering belief in the strength and capacity of all people, and the people she worked with flourished. Those who loved her often wished she would lavish more of this love on herself. Jill was always her own harshest critic.
Early in her 20s, Jill met her first husband Jean Claude. She soon moved to Quebec, living in Rimouski, Montreal and Quebec City. They overcame the language barrier, made fashion statements as one only could in the late 1960s, and travelled widely in the "Lovebug" camping trailer.
Jill felt she waited a long time to finally become a mother. Separated and then widowed, she was a single mother at a time when rental apartments could still be denied to single parents, but Jill made it look easy. She loved being a mom and knew how to be a "hip mama" before the term was coined. Jill organized family cottage rentals at Sandbanks Park and no evening was complete without everyone enjoying their self-selected little brown bag of penny candy from the store down the road. Jill was a devoted mother and supported me in my education and travels around the world, always finding the right place for the latest piece of ethnic art.
She met her soulmate Gary in time to enjoy many years together. Two such gentle souls have rarely been paired; they were perfect together. They built a home and life with each other. Jill also cared for an extended family of cats, ducks, chipmunks, mice, spiders and birds.
Jill eagerly anticipated being a grandmother -- a fact she didn't hide, and usually emphasized -- especially after I met Heather, whom Jill welcomed as a second daughter. No one was more excited than Jill when Heather and I adopted our son Jason. That Jason only had a few short months with his grandma is a terrible sadness for Jill's family, but she filled him with enough love to last a lifetime.
Jill was dancing in the pool in the Dominican Republic only a few days before suffering cardiac arrest and being placed on a ventilator. That she was headstrong is not in doubt; sadly, not even Jill could overcome the damage of a lifelong smoking addiction.
In her late 30s, Jill began struggling with mental health problems. At times, it seemed like these problems could overwhelm her. But her true capability shone through when she was asked to make the most difficult decision -- whether, with her lungs gone, the ventilator should be turned off. No one doubted Jill didn't want to die but in the end, her peace and graciousness inspired all who came near. It rained relentlessly the day of the funeral, lest anyone doubt how diminished the world is for her passing.
Lisa is Jill's daughter.

Dorothy passed away peacefully at Grove Park Nursing Home in Barrie, Ontario. Dorothy was originally from Napanee, Ontario. She will be fondly remembered for her unique wit and sense of humour. Her biggest passion in life was curling, with trophies to prove it. She also loved a good game of Bridge, a good book to read, and had a love of eats. She was a loving, generous and compassionate mother and a wonderful grandmother. She will be sorely missed by her children, Karen Lynn ROCKBRUNE (Don) of Barrie, Ontario; Mary Ellen BROWN (Don) of Airdrie, Alberta and John Howard McILVEEN (Natalie) of Toronto, Ontario. Also missed by her grandchildren, Kristi, Kelli, Karli, and Kayci ROCKBRUNE of Barrie, Ontario; Jason SAUNDERS of Toronto, Ontario Abram BROWN (Colleen) of Calgary, Alberta; Tami Lynn LAFFERTY (Mike) of Hamilton, Ontario; and Jeff and Tim McILVEEN of Toronto, Ontario. She also leaves behind four great-grandchildren, Joshua David and Julianna Joy BROWN of Calgary, Alberta; and Ethan and Klea LAFFERTY of Hamilton, Ontario. Beloved grandmother of Jay and Chris BUSCH, Kelli BATTYANYI, Joshua LAFLAMME, Valerie ATKINSON, Brian JASON and Becky HOUGHTING, Ashley and Melanie HOUGHTING. Loving great-grandmother of Ethan BUSCH, Devin ATKINSON, Madison HOUGHTING and Quentin BATTYANYI. Beloved sister of Roy YORK and Marjorie BERG. Predeceased by parents, Harrison and Jenny TAILOR/TAYLOR, her husband Robert Joseph HOUGHTING, long time companion Richard Arlen LARO, sister Mary, brothers George and David and grand_son Barry. Born in Humberstone Township, Rosemary remained a lifelong resident of the Welland area. She was employed in the Mailing Department of Canadian Tire Acceptance, retiring in 1977. She was a former member of the Parent-Teacher Association of Gordon School and the Tuesday Nite Bowling League of Bowl-O-Rama. Friends are invited to visit the family at the H.L. Cudney Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street, Welland, on Tuesday, October 11th from 7-9 p.m. for a Service of Remembrance where guests are invited to share memories, stories and special moments of their relationship with Rosemary. Loving father of Carrie MORENO and her husband Peter of London, Larry LAFOND and his wife Mary of Sarnia and Leonard LAFOND Jr. and his wife Terry of Georgetown. Grandfather of Lenard (Josie) and Melissa (Thomas) WIMMER and Nicole LAFOND and great-grandfather of Courtney, Genevieve and Juliana. Brother of Lola CASEY and Norma GRANT and her husband Don of Sarnia. He was predeceased by his brother Sherwood LAFOND and sister Phyllis RUSSELL.
A veteran of World War 2 with the Air Force, Mr. LAFOND earned the Distinguished Flying Cross (1944). He was a member of the Saint John's Lodge, Chapter #20 Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons, Hiawatha Chapter #27, Cyrene Preceptory, Chapter #252, Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #62, the Masonic Temple Legion of Honour and was a member of Ravenswood United Church. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held from the Chapel of the D.J. Robb Funeral Home (102 Victoria Street, N., Sarnia) on Thursday, June 30th at 1: 00 p.m. Interment of ashes will be held at Lakeview Cemetery at a later date. On Thursday, March 10th, 2005 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital - St. Joseph Health Centre, at the age of 75. Beloved husband of Betty (SCHNIEDER/SNIDER/SNYDER) GILLIES of Garson. Loving father of Nancy (predeceased,) Tracy (husband Marcel LAFOND) of Garson, and Russell (friend Gea) of Calgary. Cherished grandfather of Shannon and William. Dear son of Jim and Ann GILLIES, both predeceased. Dear brother of Jim, Margaret and Mary, all predeceased. Born in Toronto, he was a supervisor with C.P.R. for 44 years, retiring in 1990. Jack was an avid gardener and loved spending time with his family. "Sleep well Jack." Funeral visitation at the Lougheed Funeral Home, 252 Regent St. S. at Hazel Street, Sudbury on Sunday, March 13th, 2005 from 2-4 p.m. Cremation at the Parklawn Crematorium.
