The audience was quiet and respectful as it left, he said.
"It was a full house of about 650 people. They were very concerned
about Terry's condition. The cast and crew were devastated."
KARCHER said
DOYLE was taken by ambulance to South Huron Hospital
in Exeter, where he was pronounced dead.
DOYLE was cast as Maurice, father of Belle, the beauty, a key
secondary role.
It was a role he performed in the original Canadian production
in Toronto and
in London's West End in England,
KARCHER said.
"Terry has appeared in many Drayton Entertainment productions
since the organization's first season in 1991," he added. "Our
circle of actors is very much a tight-knit family. We've all
lost a great friend as well as a great performer."
Alex MUSTAKAS, artistic director and Drayton's chief executive,
was a close friend, said
KARCHER.
"Terry has been a great mentor to me throughout the years," said
MUSTAKAS.
"I've known him and worked with him for about 25 years. He was
one of those guys who lit up everyone around him. He was loved
by all and will be missed by all.
"I respect him deeply as a performer and, even more so, for how
he lived his life off the stage. He was a man of honour, passion
and integrity."
MUSTAKAS said
DOYLE was a theatrical performer who could "do
it all. He could act, he could sing and he was very good in comedy."
His Drayton roles included major parts in Hurray for Hollywood,
Show Stoppers, The Sunshine Boys and Over the River and Through
the Woods.
DOYLE's early career was in community theatre in Guelph, Kitchener
and Waterloo where he appeared in musical productions, said
MUSTAKAS.
"He was widely known in the theatre community. I've already received
e-mails and phone calls about his passing from as far away as
England, France and New York City."
His television career included various sitcom roles, appearances
on E.N.G., Maniac Mansion, War of the Worlds, Night Heat and
many others.
KARCHER said two Saturday productions, a matinee and evening
show, were cancelled after the curtain fell prematurely Friday.
No performances were scheduled for yesterday.
"They were all sold-out productions," he said, adding every ticket
holder has been offered an alternative date.
MUSTAKAS said there was no understudy for
DOYLE.
"It's not generally done because summer theatres run a show for
only five or six weeks."
By coincidence, the performer who understudied
DOYLE in the original
Toronto production, Sandy
WINSBY, has a small part in the Drayton
production.
"He's quickly reacquainting himself with the role of Maurice,"
said MUSTAKAS, adding the show will go on with student matinees
this week.
DOYLE is survived by his wife, Joyce, sons David and Michael
and five grandchildren.
The family plans a memorial service in about a week,
MUSTAKAS
said. "When the dust settles, we'll be honouring his memory,
too," he said of the theatre community.

Loving aunt

(Stuart, Florida). Elizabeth will be sadly missed by her sister-in-law

Eva
(Lauderdale by the Sea, Florida), their son Gabor and his family,
and by her lifelong friend Ibi

Predeceased by her husband Stephen

KARDOS (Olean, New

KARDOS
(Olean,
New
York) and Henriette
KARDOS (née
FISCH) (Budapest, Hungary). Elizabeth was born in
Budapest in 1919 and brought up in a happy Jewish home. When
Nazi Law was declared in Hungary, Elizabeth and her family were
forced to wear a yellow star and live in a house marked with
a Mogen David in the Jewish Ghetto. Prior to the liberation of
Budapest, her sweetheart, Stephen
KATO, arranged for false identification
papers for Elizabeth and her family, enabling the entire family
(except brother Miklos) to escape just hours before the residents
were gathered and deported to Nazi extermination camps. After
the war, Elizabeth and Stephen got married and lived, with their
daughter Eva, in Soviet-occupied Budapest. During the Hungarian
Uprising of 1956, the family escaped to Vienna, and later, with
the help of her brother George (who lived in the United States),
immigrated to Niagara Falls, Canada. For survival in the new
country it was necessary for Elizabeth to learn English and a
new trade. She studied and graduated as a beautician and opened
a small hairdressing salon. After her husband Stephen's death,
Elizabeth bought two houses to run as rooming houses in addition
to her beauty business. With granite strength, courage, and good
humour, she forged a new life for herself and her daughter in
a strange culture under trying circumstances. Private cremation.

JANITIS,
Lidia
In the early hours of Thursday, April 14, 2005, a life of nearly
90 years ended at St. Joseph's Health Centre in Guelph. Lidia
JANITIS leaves behind her daughter, Austra
KARDOSH and family,
and son Henry and his family in London, Ontario. Lidia and her
late husband Adolfs lived through a tumultuous century. Displaced
from their Latvian homeland by World War 2, as were millions
of people across the globe, they found temporary homes in Germany
and in Venezuela, where Lidia's charm and linguistic gift supported
her husband's photographic skill to create a studio. In the 1950's
they happily immigrated to Toronto, where their studio portraits
commemorated many events for the Latvian community. Lidia loved
her adopted country - its nature, its art, and its freedom. Cremation
has taken place, and a family service will follow. Her family
asks only that you remember the human costs of war and live the
knowledge: "The Works of Love are the Works of Peace."
