On November 6, 2005, Rose Violet FUNG peacefully passed away at home in Richmond Hill, Ontario. She was just a few weeks away from her 107th birthday. Rose was predeceased by her parents, John and Charlotte TEN POW; siblings Loy, James, Edith, Henry, George, Edwin, Edgar, Victor, Aribert and Ivan; daughters Iris and Joan and granddaughter Jerilyn. She leaves to celebrate her life, her youngest brother, Leonard; surviving daughters Ismay CAMPBELL, Lucille LAM, Thelma LAM and Norma FUNG; sons-in-law Lloydie, Walter and Bud; grandchildren Roger and Andrew CAMPBELL, Richard LAM, Jackie FRAITES, Toni LORD, Cathy HARRIS, Jay MANSON- HING, Cheryl LAM, Nancy JARDIM, Penny DUGGIN, Valli and Debbie FUNG, Joanne ARMITAGE, Caryl PEARSON, Richard and Bruce LEE, Diane LEE- SINGH; her thirty great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. At London Health Sciences Centre, University Campus, on Saturday, April 16th, 2005, Margaret Carson "Margie" (MacKENZIE) SCOPES of London in her 83rd year. She was born in Campbellton, New Brunswick on January 7, 1923 to the late Arthur MacKENZIE and the late Anna (MacBEATH) MacKENZIE. She was predeceased by her husband George and her five sisters Muriel LEBANS, Jean GILLIS, Anne KELLER, Lois PRICE, Helen JARDINE and her 1 brother Robert MacKENZIE. She is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. She attended First Baptist Church, London. She had been a child care supervisor with the Children's Aid Society and a loyal member of Y's Menettes Service Club of the Young Men's-Young Women's Christian Association. Cremation has taken place, with interment of cremated remains in Woodland Cemetery, London. It is with great sadness the family announce the passing of Anne Elizabeth (Nancy) O'QUINN, age 69, a resident of Hodder Ave, North Sydney and formerly of London, Ontario. Nancy passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 28, 2005 at the Northside General Hospital. Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late John and Margaret (MacNEIL) MacISAAC. She resided in London, Ontario for over thirty years. returning to North Sydney six year ago. Nancy was an avid skater and reader, she travelled extensively, enjoyed fine dining, music and shopping. She was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney. She is survived by: one son Shawn and daughter-in-law Kim, Toronto, grandchildren: Kevin, Kyle, Karley, Paige, and Brooke. Laura was born on September 26, 1948 in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Oakville man dies in marathon
Two other runners have died in Toronto race in the last four years

For the second year in a row, a runner has died in the Toronto Marathon.
The unidentified 36-year-old Oakville man was running in the half-marathon yesterday morning with thousands of others and collapsed moments after crossing the finish line on Queen's Park Circle, just south of Hoskin Ave.
Three people have died in the event in the last four years.
Medical personnel working with the race rushed to his aid, first trying cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, then a defibrillator. As an ambulance tried to get through the crowd, he was placed on a stretcher while health workers continued trying cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and administering oxygen. He was carried on a stretcher to Wellesley St. and then to Mount Sinai Hospital with no vital signs, Toronto Emergency Medical Services said.
A number of witnesses: said it took too long for the man to be put in an ambulance and taken to hospital.
"It did take a long time," said Janet DOGON of Thornhill. She was at the finish line because her daughter and a friend ran the half-marathon
Race director Jay GLASSMAN said some members of the medical team in place for the race -- 30 registered nurses and about seven doctors -- attended to the man and there was an ambulance on site.
GLASSMAN said he can't comment on the time it took to get the man to hospital because he doesn't have all the details.
Last year 42-year-old Scott LABRON of Guelph, a married father of four, died minutes before crossing the finish line. He was also running in the half-marathon. It's suspected he suffered a heart attack, but no cause of death was revealed after test results.
In 2001, 50-year-old Aurora businessman Bob HARTWELL, who had run the Boston Marathon several times, died of a heart attack running in the full marathon.
"Things like this happen, unfortunately. It's statistically rare when it happens," GLASSMAN said, adding big marathons like those in Boston and New York have had fatalities.
"I went to watch the New York Marathon years ago and two people died," he said.
Before the race, organizers were expecting about 2,500 for the 42.195-kilometre marathon, about 5,000 in the half-marathon, up to 1,500 for the 5-kilometre and around 1,200 for the relay. The marathon and half-marathon begin at Mel Lastman Square in North York.
GLASSMAN said the deaths are "no reflection" on the Toronto Marathon course. "There are marathons at high altitudes, low altitudes, in good weather in bad weather," he said. "We had good conditions. It was windy, which was a hindrance, but that's about it."
Runners must sign a waiver before taking part.
But with thousands of runners in the race "it's not feasible to have them all go to a cardiologist or get a physical before the race," GLASSMAN said.
The Toronto Waterfront Marathon, which staged its fourth annual race last month, has had no fatalities.
David CHERUIYOT of Kenya finished first in the main event for the men with an official time of 2: 17:12.2. Rito Regules JARDON of Toluca, Mexico, was second and Danny KASSAP of Toronto third.
A Canadian came first in the women's marathon. Lioudmila KORTCHAGUINA of Thornhill captured the women's title with a time of 2: 37:17.7, ahead of Kathryn MacNAMARA of Dundas and Isabelle LEDROIT of Montreal.
First place in the men's and women's marathon came with a cheque for $15,000.

Geun Chul LEE, 25, of Huron Street, is charged with manslaughter and is free on $5,000 bail.

A man charged with manslaughter following a fight Thursday that left a London man with fatal injuries was released on bail yesterday.
London police yesterday released the name of the 22-year-old man, Kai ZHENG, who died Thursday in hospital after he was injured outside his apartment building at 1128 Adelaide St. N.
Geun Chul LEE, 25, of Huron Street was held in custody after he was arrested at his home Thursday and charged with manslaughter in Zheng's death.
LEE and ZHENG knew of each other but had never met, police said.
LEE was released yesterday on $5,000 bail during an appearance in the Ontario Court of Justice.
Justice of the peace John CARROLL ordered LEE to surrender his passport before his release.
CARROLL said LEE must continue to live at his Huron Street residence, report to London police every Sunday and is not to go within a block of the Adelaide Street apartment building where the fight occurred.
While out of custody, he is banned from possessing weapons of any kind.
LEE replied with a soft-spoken "yes" when asked if he understood the conditions of his release.
LEE's lawyer, Antin JAREMCHUK, told CARROLL that LEE's family is in Korea and his mother is flying to Canada to be with her son.
LEE was ordered to return to court October 5.
ZHENG and a roommate moved into a sixth-floor apartment at 1128 Adelaide September 1.
Friends brought ZHENG to Victoria Hospital after he was seriously hurt in a fight with another person outside his apartment building.
Hospital staff then called police just before 6 a.m.
ZHENG later died of his injuries, making him the 12th homicide victim in London this year.
Police are still awaiting autopsy results to determine his cause of death.
ZHENG had applied to Fanshawe College, but hadn't completed registration and had not attended classes.
