More recently John was most proud of his involvement with the award winning project of creating 16 new units within the Margaret Laurence Housing Coop - the first such initiative in Canada. Of Saint Thomas passed away at the Copper Ridge Place, Whitehorse, Yukon on Saturday, October 15, 2005, in her 85th year. Beloved wife of John W. McNEIL. Loving mother of John (Toronto) and his wife Jean, Doug (Whitehorse) and Jean (Whitehorse) and husband Lorne. Grandmother of nine grandchildren, Ceara, Courtney, and Andrew (Toronto), Robyn, Hayley and Brittany (Whitehorse) and Holly, Jackie and Kelsey (Whitehorse). She will sadly be missed by sister Merle JACKSON and husband Bill and the generations of people to whom she taught French. With her husband and children at her side and surrounded by the love of her family, Katherine passed away at her home on Friday, May 20, 2005 at the age of 36. Katherine leaves behind her loving and faithful husband Marco VOETS and their three little ones, Cassandra, Mikayla and Joey. Katherine is survived by her mother Marlene JOHNSON and her husband Fred of Windsor and by her father Cecil KEATING and his wife Lovette of Dresden. Also surviving is her grandmother Sylvia WRIGHT of Blenheim. Also surviving is a sister Sherry HARDACRE and her husband John of Redford, Michigan as well as brothers Mark KEATING of Windsor and Michael KEATING and his wife Bonnie of Winnipeg. Katherine's extended family includes her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Nellie and Harry VOETS of Blenheim, as well as sisters-in-law, Jo-Ann and Rick WIGHTMAN of Blenheim, Marion SMITH and Steve CUTLER of Blenheim, Ellie VOETS- STERLING and Steve of Blenheim and Angeline, Troy Humber of Belle River as well as several nieces and nephews. Katherine's family received Friends at the Blenheim Community Funeral Home for visitation on Sunday and Monday, May 22 and 23. Katherine's funeral service was conducted from Glad Tidings Community Church, Blenheim on Tuesday, May 24 at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Bruce COOK of the Blenheim United Church officiating. During the Funeral Service Kelly BUCHANANA offered special words of remembrance. Douglas JOHN played and sang, "The Dance," written by Garth Brooks. Acting as pallbearers were Rick WIGHTMAN, Steve CUTLER, Chris VANDEWIELE, Steve STERLING, Troy HUMBER and Marnie BUCHANANA. Dead teen will be missed

He was a good son, brother and boyfriend. Brian DUNCAN, an 18-year-old Eastview Secondary School student, died Tuesday following a bicycling accident in Barrie earlier this week.
“He was really funny,” said his younger sister Stephanie, eyes red, a tissue box positioned between her and Brian's girlfriend, Laura HANNA. “He was really thoughtful and caring.&rdquo
Laura and Brian had been dating for about a year. Wearing a red dress and a flower in her hair, Laura attended the prom with Brian by her side. He wore a black suit, tie and vest with a white shirt.
“There was nobody that didn't like him,” Laura said, tears running down her face.
“He was a good man like his dad. He always wanted peace -- he was so happy.&rdquo
It's that sense of happiness Brian's Friends will miss.
“We did everything together,” said pal Shawn HUMBLE, noting he played basketball and hockey with Brian.
“He's down to earth with you. It was unexpected for all of us. I didn't think it was true. (Brian) was the guy you could always count on. If you needed something, he would always be there.
“Anyone who didn't know him... it's unfortunate because they missed out on what could have been a great Friendship.&rdquo
Brian's relationship with his mother and father was a strong one, his sister said. Brian lent a hand whenever he could at his father's store.
“He was always really good with my parents,” she said.
Brian and Laura were planning on attending the University of Waterloo together in September.
He enjoyed history and politics.
But Brian also played sports.
He loved bicycling.
“He played hockey pretty much his whole life,” said Stephanie.
Brian lived in Barrie, in the same house, his entire life. However, the family used to visit a cousin's cottage.
“He liked the cottage,” said Laura, whispering many of her words, between sips from her glass.
Duncan was riding his bike a short distance from his home on private property.
He hit a retaining wall, was thrown from the bike and landed a short distance away.
His head hit a concrete walkway. However, he was not wearing a helmet and sustained severe head trauma. A passerby called for an ambulance.
Barrie Police Sgt. David GOODBRAND said Duncan was taken off life support, after being listed in critical condition at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto June 21. He was airlifted from Royal Victoria Hospital to St. Michael's.
“Basically, it was a result of severe head trauma,” he said.
Eastview's exam schedule has been lengthened to accommodate grieving students.
“They were of the opinion that they should just soldier on with exams, and then deal with family matters,” said Bruce BOYES, Eastview vice-principal.
Grief counsellors were at the school Wednesday and a “fellowship room” was set up to assist students dealing with the tragedy.
“I think a lot of the senior students who knew him are numbed,&rdquo BOYES said. “It doesn't hit them until later. That's what I have seen in my experience with teens.&rdquo
“I'd say the atmosphere here is very sombre,” he said. “We are just trying to be as supportive as we can be.&rdquo
The funeral service will take place at Grace United Church on Saturday at 2 p.m. Friends may attend the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home on Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On her last road trip Mum died on March 27, 2005 with her husband Bill by her side. Born September 25, 1928, at Prince Rupert, British Columbia, she was the daughter of Walter and Helen CARTER) HUME. She was an R.N. at Saint John General Hospital, in Plaster Rock, New Brunswick, and Montreal at Saint Mary's Hospital. She raised her children with love, incredible baking and an appetite for life. She completed her B.N. at McGill in 1976 and was Infection Control Nurse at Saint John General Hospital. Retiring to Hampton, New Brunswick, she was an active community volunteer and member of the Curling and Golf Clubs.
Her unstoppable spirit will live in the memories of her family: husband Bill, Hampton, children Debbie (Herb) Winnipeg, Pat (Andrew) England, Billy (Galina) Montreal, and Bruce (Karen) Australia, stepchildren Gregory (Josephine) Mississippi, and Jane (Robert) Wolfville, Nova Scotia, and nine grandchildren.
It was never the destination that mattered to Mum; it was the winding road and people along the way that she cared about. Travel on Mum, the road is wide open now.
A memorial service will be held in Hampton at a later date.

Audrey peacefully departed this life at Ottawa Hospital - General Campus, surrounded by the love and support of her family. She was the great love, best friend and soul-mate of husband Bill for over 61 years. Lovingly remembered and missed by her children Helen (Dave McWHIRTER), Laura (Erich HABER), Fran (Gary PRIESTMAN), Bill (Lou-Ann) and Mary (Humberto LOISELLE.) Cherished grandmother of Scott, Stephen, Ian, Aaron (Kristin), Allison, Katherine, David, Ashley and Carey-Anne and great-grandmother to Ooma. She was predeceased by daughter Shirley and grandchildren Andy, Sarah and David. Audrey was born in Toronto as were her parents Francis PASSMORE and Helen KENNEDY. She leaves behind her dear sister Shirley STEWARD/STEWART/STUART and brothers Jim and Frank and sister-in-law, Hilda HUMENIUK. She is fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Audrey spent her life in Toronto until January 2000, when she and Bill moved to Ottawa where Laura and Erich, and Mary and Bert and their families were able to assist Dad in caring for Audrey in her declining health. She especially enjoyed the celebration of her 60th wedding anniversary last July that brought together so many family and Friends. Audrey became physically disabled which necessitated a move to Starwood-Extendicare shortly after the anniversary celebration. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff and care providers of Starwood who cared for Audrey with affection and respect and ensured her stay there was comfortable. Family will receive Friends on Friday, April 29, 2005 at the Pine Hills Cemetery (625 Birchmount Road, Toronto, Ontario) from 1: 30 p.m. until the time of the funeral service in the Chapel at 2: 30 p.m. Interment to follow. In her 71st year, Hannah peacefully passed away in her sleep on the night of September 7, 2005. Hannah emigrated from her native Stuttgart (Germany) first to England, and then to Canada over 50 years ago. Through hard work she excelled and was well respected for her long years running the Clinic at the Hospital for Sick Children. Hannah was a grand lady, caring friend to many, always smiling and had the best outlook on life. Hannah was predeceased by her soulmate Bob earlier this year, and we believe she has gone to find him. Hannah was dearly loved and will be sadly missed by her mother Clara REHLÉ of Germany, her sister Magaret (Bernard) SAILE of Australia, her nieces and nephews, Holger, Suzanne, Bettina, Christina, Ingrid, Doris and their families, dear cousin Herta, and her son Thèo and his family, and her many relatives in Germany, her very close Friends John and Marcel, Margaret, and Eleanor, her adopted Canadian family Sandra, Garrett and Chris, Carol and Roberta, and her pampered cats Sam and Teddy. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Richard SHAEFFER; proud, loving and committed life partner of Alexander DUNCAN for close to 50 years. Jim passed away peacefully on Friday, April 15th, 2005 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Jim was survived for two short weeks by his loving life partner Alexander DUNCAN. The loss of Jim was more than Alex could bear. Jim was predeceased by his parents Howard and Gladys SHAEFFER, his brothers Robert H. SHAEFFER, Donald D. SHAEFFER, Dale F. SHAEFFER, and brother-in-law George CHRISMER. Jim is survived by sister Barbara HUMMELL (Kermit) of Miamisburg, Ohio and brother Theodore SHAEFFER (Jo Ann,) sister Betty M. BELL (Harold,) and sister-in-law Wanda R. SHAEFFER, all of Lancaster, Ohio. As well, sister Virginia CHRISMER of Columbus, Ohio, and many devoted and loving nieces and nephews. Jim will be affectionately remembered and deeply missed by the Duncan family who were proud to call him brother-in-law and uncle. He was one of the most generous people we ever knew. Rarely did anyone leave Uncle Jim's empty handed. Sincere thanks to the staff of the Greater Niagara General Hospital and to special friend Paul BARBER for their compassion, love, and support.
