Peacefully at his home in Brampton, on December 29, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer, Fred passed away in his 71st year. Died peacefully at home with family around him on July 4, 2005, at the age of 85. He will be remembered with love and gratitude by his wife, Fern (née DETTWILER,) daughter, Martha DROUILLARD (Dave), sons, Glen (Patricia) and Roger (Carolyn), and daughter-in-law, Marjorie HORST (Elwood,) twelve grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren, and thirty-two additional grandchildren and great-grandchildren that he embraced in his affections and prayers. He is also mourned by his sister, Lydia Ann BAUMAN/BOWMAN (Howard,) brother, Simeon (Jean,) sisters-in-law, Leeta HORST (Melvin) and Gladys OLLEY (Victor,) and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Annie HORST; sisters, Lovina WRAASE and Annie BAUMAN/BOWMAN brothers, Samuel, Moses, George, Elias, Daniel, Nathaniel, and Aaron; and son, Wayne. Osiah was born in Florida and grew up north of Elmira, Ontario. After Alternative Service assignments, he married Fern in 1945. In 1946 he was ordained at the Mannheim Mennonite Church and began 18 years of ministry there. In 1964 he began a twenty-year Ministry at Danforth Mennonite Church. From 1970-79 he was employed part-time at Dellcrest Children's Centre and in 1977 completed a Social Service course through Seneca College. A highlight of his ministry at Danforth was the development of the St. Clair O'Connor Community and his chaplaincy there from 1984-94 completed a life-time of pastoral service The family wishes to thank the many people who have supported Osiah and Fern in his time of illness, particularly those from the Danforth Mennonite Church and Masarypark Homes. Friends will be received at the Giffen-Mack "Danforth" Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 2570 Danforth Avenue, (at Main St. Subway), Toronto on Wednesday, July 6 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Service at the Danforth Mennonite Church, 2174 Danforth Avenue, at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 7. September 7, 1942 - December 6, 2004. In Loving Memory of Edward Nelson HORTON, born in Mindemoya, September 7, 1942, a resident of London, England, who died suddenly at the University Hospital, in Vilnius, Lithuania, on Monday December 6, 2004. The son of Kathleen HORTON (nee ANGLIN) and James HORTON, both deceased, he grew up in Kingston, Ontario, attending Kingston Collegiate and Queen's University. He was an author, editor, and a member of the London publishing community for 30 years, known throughout British illustrated publishing as an accomplished writer and as one of the finest book and magazine editors of his generation. After his arrival in Vilnius from Britain in July, he was credited with a flowering of magazine publishing in Lithuania, a country whose national cultural aspirations and rich cultural life captured his imagination. He is survived by his wife, Louise, of Auckland, New Zealand, daughter Sylva, of Sydney, Australia, of London, brother John ANGLIN HORTON (Carolyn,) of Toronto and Lake Manitou, nephews Sean, of Kingston, and Kevin, of Toronto, and first cousins Ron ANGLIN, of Arnprior, Mary Ellen ANGLIN, of Toronto, Robert ANGLIN (Barbara,) of Ottawa and Providence Bay, Tom BURRELL, of Kingston, Elizabeth BURRELL, of Ottawa, and Perry ANGLIN (Aimee,) of Mindemoya. Affectionately known as Shonnie, Donnie passed away surrounded by his family in the Palliative Care unit of the Saint John Regional Hospital on November 10th, 2005. He was the beloved husband of Doreen (DOBBIN) and cherished father of Paul SHONAMAN (Sue HORTON,) Mary Lynn MUIR (Tim), Glen SHONAMAN (Jan HARRIS), and Holly SHONAMAN (Lonny ROSEN.) He was the adored Grampy of Jason and Erin MUIR, Anthony and Justin SHONAMAN, and Nathan and Evan ROSEN. Also survived by his cousin Bobby VENIOT, his sister Dorothy DARNLEY and his brother Douglas (Audrey). A painter by trade and an avid woodworking hobbyist, Donnie was a lifelong member of the International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades, Local 1151. His fun-loving ways, quick smile and laughter will be forever treasured by his fishing buddies, card partners and dart pals alike. Visitation will be Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, New Brunswick. Donald LAITIN, Quaker Elder 1927-2004
He travelled the world with a message of peace

Aurora, Ontario -- As a Quaker, Donald LAITIN believed in peace. Once, as a member of a delegation of interfaith peace-builders to Jordan, Israel and Palestine, he presented Yasser Arafat's chief of staff with a copy of the painting The Peaceable Kingdom.
The work by the 19th-century Quaker artist Edward Hicks depicts Isaiah's prophesy of a harmonious world, represented by wild animals lying beside domestic ones. For Mr. LAITIN, the painting represented his fervent desire for world peace.
"He just identified with that picture very, very strongly," said Barbara HORVATH, a member of the Religious Society of Friends, also known as Quakers. "I think he felt it encapsulated the work that he wanted to do in the world. Donald just saw himself as being, or wanting to be, a force for peacefulness and helping reconcile differing people and differing views, as well as diminishing violence."
About 1,200 are active in the Canadian Quaker community, forming in local groups called monthly meetings. Like Mrs. HORVATH, Mr. LAITIN was a long-time member of historic Yonge Street Monthly Meeting in Newmarket, Ontario
Not only did Mr. LAITIN give Mr. Arafat's chief of staff a copy of The Peaceable Kingdom, but also those he met while on international volunteer missions and locally while making interfaith visitations. Mr. LAITIN hoped, as he described it, to "cross barriers" and bring about "unity through diversity." The visits began from his desire to end anti-Semitism and became one that wished to diminish differences between all faiths.
Still, he held the utmost respect for the beliefs of those he visited and had no desire to change them. One such occasion occurred several years ago when he showed up at the Solel Synagogue in Mississauga, Ontario He attended services and developed a Friendship with rabbi Lawrence ENGLANDER. "He was just the gentlest person you would ever want to meet," Rabbi ENGLANDER said. "You would see his face, very peaceful, beaming, friendly, certainly an inviting expression."
Quakers worship without appointed clergy, sitting in silence unless someone is led to speak. During meetings, Mr. LAITIN often spoke passionately about his hope for peace in the Middle East. Afterward, he greeted others with a warm, engulfing handshake and "Hello friend."
Born on Long Island, New York Mr. LAITIN was one of two children born to a Jewish couple, a dentist and a lawyer. When Mr. LAITIN was young, his mother adopted Quakerism and sent him to Quaker schools.
At 18, in 1945, and a student at the New York State College of Agriculture at Cornell University, Mr. LAITIN was drafted. Wrestling with his pacifist faith, Mr. LAITIN chose to serve in the army as a non-combatant, upsetting his mother and many of his Quaker Friends.
Returning to Cornell, he graduated and found a job with a food-processing companies, signing crop contracts with farmers and advising them when to plant. While on the job in rural Illinois, he fell in love with Barbara CRAWFORD, a farmer's daughter. They married in 1954. Mr. LAITIN later found a job with Continental Can and, in 1958, the company decided to move him to Toronto. Mr. LAITIN remained there until his retirement, becoming the director of research.
During the 1960s, he joined Yonge Street Monthly Meeting. He served on many committees and as its clerk during the '70s. According to Quaker practice, clerks, aided by spiritual guidance, facilitate meetings. While clerk, Mr. LAITIN oversaw refurbishment of the Yonge Street Meeting House, a structure built in 1912 by American Quakers.
Mr. LAITIN also served as clerk of Canadian Yearly Meeting, the national body of the Society of Friends. In 1986, he was one of 17 Canadian church leaders who condemned president Ronald Reagan's bid for congressional aid to the contras in Nicaragua. Mr. LAITIN also participated in many humanitarian initiatives. He spent two weeks volunteering in a hospital in the troubled Chiapas state of Mexico, rolling bandages and sorting clothes. In 1988, Mr. LAITIN was part of a delegation that took food and medical supplies to El Salvador.
Closer to home, Mr. LAITIN established the Orangeville Worship Group and served as a lay chaplain to the area's hospital. He and his wife supported a family claiming refugee status, obtaining their release from detention.
During the winter of 2003, with war in Iraq dominating the news, Mr. LAITIN organized several peace vigils in front of the Orangeville Town Hall, sometimes marching alone. Perhaps he was acting on words he had previously spoken during a meeting: "Tyranny thrives on the silence of good people."
Donald Robert LAITIN was born on July 3, 1927, on Long Island, New York He died at home in Mono Township, Ontario, on December 10, 2004, at 77. He leaves his wife, Barbara, children Ann, John and Suzanne, and sister Tobey Register.

BELLIS, Margaret Farrell
It is with great sadness that her family announces the passing at home of Margaret Farrell BELLIS on January 4, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer. She will always be remembered and forever loved by her best friend and husband Kelvin. She was a loving and devoted mother and will be forever missed by her children, Stephen Phillip and Carolyn Margaret (and fiancé Tim STACEY.) Dear sister of Angela WILLIAMS and her husband Peter and their children, Vanessa, Rebecca, Jeffrey, and Michael. Loved daughter of the late Violet Barrett DICKINSON and sister of the late Cindy KENT. She will be lovingly remembered by her sister-in-law Lynn CROWTHER and her husband Gary. Margaret was especially close to Brenda and Bob LEARMONTH, and their children, her "treasures," Carolann, Christine, and Jamie who brought so much joy to her life. Special thanks to all her wonderful Friends whose continued support and encouragement was greatly appreciated. The family is very grateful and would like to thank the many people who provided kindness and thoughtful care and support from the Community Care Access Centre and the Etobicoke Victorian Order of Nurses and the Toronto Sunnybrook Regional Cancer Centre, including Dr. Kathleen PRITCHARD, Dr. Andrew SMITH, and Dr. Nina HORVATH. A special thank you to The Grace Hospital and Dr. David SCHWARTZ. Margaret will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her outgoing and energetic spirit, kindness, generosity, wonderful sense of humor, and her courage. Friends are invited to share their memories of Margaret with her family at Turner and Porter Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas St. W., Etobicoke (between Islington and Kipling Aves.) on Thursday, January 6, 2005, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A service will be held in the chapel on Friday, January 7, 2005, at 3 p.m. followed by a reception at the Islington Golf Club. As an expression of sympathy, donations in memory of Margaret to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation or the Toronto Grace Foundation, Palliative Care Unit of Toronto Grace Hospital at 416-925-2251 would be appreciated.
