John came into the world with one name and left with another. Adopted soon after birth in 1920 by C. Victor HODDER, O.B.E. and Kathleen Telford HODDER, John, or Jack to many Friends, was raised in Toronto and distinguished himself as a fine athlete at Ridley and Upper Canada Colleges and North Toronto Collegiate. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1940 and earned his wings in 1941. After coastal defence duties during the war, surviving several crashes in peacetime and duty as a test pilot, John left the Royal Canadian Air Force to enter private business in 1956. A lifelong stamp collector, he retired in the late 1980's to work on his collection and to pursue his interests in needlepoint and painting. Special thanks are extended to Dr. Mary JACKSON, Dr. Eric HENTSCHEL and the nursing staff in the Chest Unit at Saint Mary's Hospital. His cremains will be interred in the family plot, Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto.
