I've had many
times I can tell you, Times when loneliness I'd trade for your
company, And children saw me crying, I'd thought I'd had my share
of that. Midnight diamonds stud the heavens, Southward burning
lie the jewels that eye your place, And warm winds that embrace
me, Just as surely kissed your face, Oh, these miss you nights
are the longest. How I miss you, I'm not likely to tell, I'm
a man, And cold daylight buys the pride I'd rather sell. All
my secrets and dreams are wasted now, You know them well. Play
down all dreams and themes once remembered, It's just the same,
this miss you game, Yes, these miss you nights are the longest.
I'll always love and remember you. You're loving husband Rob.
Quietly in our thoughts and prayers every day Mom, You were so
very special and devoted to us, Your boundless love and teachings,
Will forever be remembered with thanks. We love you so much.

Leo LABINE
By A. Lawrence
HEALEY,
Wednesday,
March 2, 2005 - Page S9
A. Lawrence
HEALEY of Lachine, Quebec, writes about Leo
LABINE,
whose obituary appeared yesterday.
Reading about Leo "The Lion"
LABINE yesterday brought back powerful
memories of a 10-year-old Montreal Canadiens hockey fan lying
motionless in a dark bedroom, straining to hear the family radio
in the living room of our four-and-a-half room, third-floor,
coldwater flat on Boyer Street in northeastern Montreal. The
radio was broadcasting the seventh game of the 1951-52 Stanley
Cup semifinals. The deal was, the radio, the only one in our
home, would be tuned just loud enough so that I could hear it
if I didn't make a sound during or after the game.
My heart sank after Mr.
LABINE knocked my hero Maurice Richard
unconscious and out of the game in the first period, only to
overflow with joy when "The Rocket" came back late in the third
period to score the winning goal against Sugar Jim Henry.
Looking back, the hockey game I imagined in my mind's eye that
night was more exciting, by far, than any I have seen since on
television or in person.
