Father of two dies in blaze
Funeral services were held Wednesday or a Dunedin-area man who died in a house fire last Friday.
Scott HAMMILL, 38, was found dead in his Nottawasaga 6/7 Sideroad home after firefighters doused flames.
HAMMILL was the fiancee of Julie SMITH and father of two young children, Zachary and Danielle.
SMITH and the children were not home at the time of the fire. A post mortem determined that the man died as a result of the blaze. There is no word yet about what caused the fire.
HAMMILL, a Dunedin native, worked as a plumber. Growing up he attended Nottawasaga-Creemore Public School and Collingwood Collegiate Institute.

Age 76, of Jonesboro, Georgia died Monday February 7, 2005. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian N. GAMBLE. He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Kathy and Bill GORYCA, Laurie and Mark HATALLA, Lisa and Ed RICE; sons, Brian GAMBLE, Bruce GAMBLE and his fiance Becky TYSON. 7 grandchildren; Gaitlyn and James GORYCA, Whitney and Erin PERRY, Jared RICE, David and Daniel HATALLA, and Shelby GAMBLE; brother, James GAMBLE, sisters Isabell DRESSLER, Lois BALLARD, Ouida HAMMOND, Frances QUIRIE. Mr. GAMBLE served in the Canadian Navy from 1944-1946, in the Canadian Army from 1951-1954, and during the Korean Conflict with the Canadian Army. Peacefully surrounded by his family Cecil HICKS passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at London Health Sciences Centre-Victoria Hospital. He leaves behind his loving wife and best friend of 60 years Margaret (née HALL) along with his children James HICKS (Marjolein) of Kitchener, Larry HICKS (Patricia), Deborah COWELL (Ron) and Wendy McMURRAY (Brad) all of London. He will be sadly missed by his 10 grandchildren and 2 greatgrandchildren. Cecil was the oldest of 9 children which included Betty HAMMOND (Dean,▲) Gerald HICKS (Lois), Lyle COURTIS (Rose), Doug COURTIS (Elaine), Lonnie SMITH and Maxwell COURTIS (Wanda.) Predeceased by his mother Muriel COURTIS, father Ernest HICKS and brother Robert HICKS (Ethel.) Also loved by several nieces and nephews.
Cecil served for 4 years in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War 2. He was also a Staff Sergeant in the Canadian Corps of Signals for 7 years. He worked at Labatt Breweries of London for 38 years before retiring in 1984. Loving mother of Ann and Mary and son-in-law David KEYS. Dear Nanny of Ann's children Bronwyn, Signy and Eric and Mary and David's children Christina and Alexandra. Dear aunt of the Livingstone family; Sue McRUER, Joan LIVINGSTONE and Julie HAMMOND and of the Bythell family; Bonnie BYTHELL, Margo▲ KREH, David BYTHELL and Sara SPRAQUE. Daughter of the late Elsie Leatherdale LIVINGSTONE and Herbert LIVINGSTONE. Bette was raised in Shelburne, Ontario with her brother Hugh LIVINGSTONE. After graduation from the Ontario College of Art in 1937, she married Don in 1940. They lived and raised their children in Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto. Bette was a keen athlete throughout her life, enjoying curling and tennis as well as summers at the cottage on Gloucester Pool. With▼ sadness, we announce the passing of David BOWLES on Friday, December 9, 2005, aged 69. Beloved husband of Shirley. Devoted son of Elizabeth (and the late William R. BOWLES) and loving brother of William (Lynne). David leaves behind to celebrate his life his children: Karen (Bill) HAMMOND, Lori▲▼ (Paul▼) RIVEST, Shirley (Michael DARBY;) and cherished grandchildren Derek, Paul Michael, John, Martha and Michael.
David was president of Carton Trade Services for 20 years, and a respected business leader in the paper box industry. In his youth, he was a fierce defenseman for the Junior A Barrie Flyers. He continued to play hockey for many years afterward, enjoying the camaraderie of his teammates in old-timers' hockey leagues. He was a man of great strength, pride and generosity. He was happiest sharing a laugh with his family and Friends, especially when playing jokes on them. His sense of humour had become legendary in his neighbourhood.
Although David had wished to be floated down the Don River in a cardboard box wrapped in blazing Christmas lights, instead the family has arranged for visitation at Ogden Funeral Home, 4164 Sheppard Ave. East, Agincourt, (416) 293-5211 on Monday from 7-9 and Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral will be held in the Ogden Chapel on Wednesday at 2 p.m.

We are deeply saddened to announce the death of our wonderful father, Victor, in his 81st year, at the Mississauga Trillium Health Centre. Vic gallantly represented Canada and served in the Canadian Tank Corps during the World War 2 conflict from 1942-1946. Victor spent 38 productive and rewarding years employed as an engineer by the Canadian Pacific Railway. Vic is predeceased by his wife Dorothy (NEWMAN,) parents Stanley and Alice (BRENNAN) and sister Ruth PARTRIDGE. Victor will be affectionately remembered and genuinely missed by his sons Gary and his wife Kathy, Jeff, and Steven and his wife Cheryl. "Grandpa Vic" will be fondly remembered and sincerely missed by his grandchildren Cale, Carissa, Peter, Brent, Whitney-Elyse, Taryn, Kaitlyn, Lindsay and Ryan. FROST, George MacMillan
Surrounded by people who love him, Mac passed away on March 30th, 2005. Born in Toronto on February 24, 1922, George MacMillan FROST, graduated from St. Andrew's College in Aurora in 1939 and attended McGill University in Montreal before signing up to become a pilot with the Royal Canadian Air Force Coastal Command in World War 2. Mac, or "Monk" as his young comrades liked to call him, flew Sunderlands over the English Channel, returning to Toronto at the end of 1945. After a few years in other business endeavours, Mac became involved in the golf business by purchasing, along with his father George V. FROST, and a cousin, Art BAMFORD, the Cedar Brae Golf and Country Club, located South of Lawrence and Markham Rd. in Scarborough. He went on to build and operate, a "new" Cedar Brae on Steeles Ave. E., Parkview G.C., and Brookwood G.C. Mac and his wife Beth, then independent from his former partners, carried on to build and operate Spring Lakes G.C. in Stouffville. Mac went on to build yet another course, Vespra Hills G.C. near Barrie on Beth's family farm. Over the years, Mac has served as the President of the Ontario Branch of the Club Managers Association in 1966; Lt. Governor of the Ontario-Quebec-Maritime region of Kiwanis International in 1968. He has been a charter member of Markham Men of Harmony (Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America Inc.) since 1966 and was inducted into the Harmony Hall of Fame in 1988. Mac enjoyed curling at the Unionville Curling Club for a number of years, becoming a Life Member of the Decaders Club of the Quebec International Bonspiel. He became a member of the Confrerie de la Chaine des Rotisseur in 1965 and became Commandeur in 1997. Mac was a member of the Ontario Golf Course Superintendents Association; the Canadian Golf Course Superintendents Association, from whom he received the John B. Steel Distinguished Service Award in 1993; and the American Golf Course Operators Association. He was the First President of the National Golf Course Owners Association, Central Ontario Chapter. Mac served the Royal Canadian Golf Association as a Governor, an Honorary Governor, and then an Associate Governor. In 1998 he received an award for long, meritorious service to golf awarded by the R.C.G.A. Mac enjoyed playing in the Canadian Open ProAm for many years since 1984, and had his daughter join him on the team for the last 7 ProAms he played in. Mac was a member of the Turfgrass Research Foundation, and a founding sponsor of the "G.M. Frost Building" for Turfgrass Research at Guelph University in Ontario. Mac, along with his wife Beth, has been an ardent supporter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation since its inception and was honoured at the International Conference of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in Washington, D.C. He supported and sat on the board of the Markham-Stouffville Hospital Foundation for more than ten years. He has served on the Board of the Management Institute of Canada, and in 1972, as well as more recently, has served on committees to negotiate for tax reform for the golf industry. Last but not least, he is to be inducted into the Ontario Golf Hall of Fame in May this year in the "builder" category, to honour his contributions to the game of golf in Ontario. Mac FROST brought his generosity, integrity, intelligence and his sense of humour into so many lives in a great variety of endeavours. He will be remembered with respect and affection. Mac leaves his beloved wife and loyal partner in life of the last 54 years, Beth FROST, his daughter, Cinder WARREN and her husband Martyn, and his grand_son Jason HAMMOND, as well as other dear Friends and relations. Mr. Mátyás " Matthew" FERENCZ of Maich Crescent, Brantford, a man who loved life as much as he loved his family, passed away suddenly at his home on Tuesday, October 18, 2005, in his 64th year. Member of the Delhi District Hungarian House and the Canadian Auto Workers. son of the late Mátyás and Gizella (KÁNYA) FERENCZ. Matthew was born in Csiksomlyó, Erdély on January 31st, 1942 and immigrated to Canada in 1987. Beloved husband of Olga FERENCZ (née HAJDU.) Dear father of Andrea FERENCZ (George PUTOCZKI,) Oakville and Tünde "Cindy" FERENCZ (Glen HAMMOND,) Milton. Dear brother and brother-in-law of István FERENCZ (Izabella,) Imre FERENCZ (Klára) and János Hajdu (Katalin.) Also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call at the Murphy Funeral Home, Delhi, for visitation on Thursday, October 20th, 2005 from 2: 00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., and for Prayer Service at 7: 30 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at Calvin Presbyterian Church, Delhi on Friday morning at 10: 00 a.m. with Reverend Ferenc SZATMARI officiating. With▲ sadness, we announce the passing of David BOWLES on Friday, December 9, 2005, age 69. Beloved husband of Shirley. Devoted son of Elizabeth (and the late William R. BOWLES) and loving brother of William (Lynne). David leaves behind to celebrate his life his children: Karen (Bill) HAMMOND, Lori▲ (Paul▲) RIVEST, Shirley (Michael DARBY;) and cherished grandchildren Derek, Paul Michael, John, Martha and Michael. David was President of Carton Trade Services for 20 years, and a respected business leader in the paper box industry. In his youth, he was a fierce defenseman for the Junior A Barrie Flyers. He continued to play hockey for many years afterward, enjoying the camaraderie of his teammates in old-timers' hockey leagues. He was a man of great strength, pride and generosity. He was happiest sharing a laugh with his family and Friends, especially when playing jokes on them. His sense of humour had become legendary in his neighbourhood. Although David had wished to be floated down the Don River in a cardboard box wrapped in blazing Christmas lights, instead the family has arranged for visitation at Ogden Funeral Home, 4164 Sheppard Ave. E., Agincourt, (416) 293-5211 on Monday from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral will be held in the Ogden Chapel on Wednesday at 2 p.m. The family would like to convey their deepest gratitude to Dr. SHOGILEV, Durham▲ Access-to-Care, and especially Lara LEMIEUX for their care and kindness throughout David's long illness.
