GARNER, Mary Alice (née GALLANT)
Peacefully at the Wiarton Hospital, Wednesday, August 10th, 2005, due to complications of a stroke earlier this year. Alice was born March 2nd, 1916 on the Gaspe Peninsula. She was predeceased by four brothers and four sisters, grand_son Dean GARNER and her husband Hugh GARNER (1913-1979) who was a noted Canadian writer and recipient of the Governor General's Award for Fiction in 1963. Hugh's works included novels, short stories, screenplays, television plays, newspaper and magazine articles that were published world wide and some of his short stories are required reading in many high school courses. Alice is survived by her sisters Alma GALLANT of the Gaspe and Irene PARKER of Richmond Hill, daughter Barbara WONG of Wiarton, son Hugh GARNER Jr. of Brampton, companion of 22 years Art OUELLETTE of Campbellton, New Brunswick, grandchildren John GROVE, Lana GROVE, Carrie HURST, and Robbie GARNER and great-grandchildren Chance MILLER, Ashley HALLAHAN, Josh HALLAHAN and Dalton HURST. She will be sadly missed by many. Her remains have been cremated and will be scattered on the Gaspe next summer. The family is grateful to the staff at the Wiarton Hospital for their companionate care.

Bobbie as she was affectionately known to her family and Friends passed away at Scarborough General Hospital on February 2nd, 2005 after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Beloved wife of George. The death of B. Marie BURTT of Toronto, occurred on July 6, 2005 at the Scarborough Centenary Health Centre. Born on October 29, 1928 in Burtt's Corner, New Brunswick, she was a daughter of the late Charles E. and Jennie S. (FOSTER) BURTT. Marie was retired from the job she loved, where she had worked as a bookkeeper with a law firm in Toronto for over twenty-five years. She continued as a volunteer bookkeeper with her local church. She is survived by two brothers, Ashley BURTT (Anna) of Fredericton, New Brunswick and Ralph BURTT (Sadie) of Fredericton, New Brunswick; three sisters, Gertrude REID of Royal Road, New Brunswick, Inez GORMAN of Quispamsis, New Brunswick and Kathleen HALLAM of Toronto and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by four brothers, Edwin, Cecil, Alton and Raymond; and three sisters, Annie BURTT, Hazel DUNPHY and Shirley CRANDALL.
