Proud grandfather of Jeff (Jane,) Bill and Matthew JOHNSON, Craig and Lauren HANNA, Laura▲ and Michael PODSTAWKA, Nicholas and Jack PODSTAWKA and Leah EDWARDS. Predeceased by his parents Mary and John PODSTAWKA of Toronto and brother Walter of Buffalo, New York. Survived by his sisters Anne STACEY of Collingwood and Bernice PIETZAK of Buffalo, New York. Mike will be sadly missed by his nieces and nephews and fondly remembered by his Friends, especially his coffee group. As a veteran of World War 2, Mike proudly served his country with the R.H.L.I. Regiment from 1942-1946. He was well known for being one of the co-founders of Hagger's Men's Wear, Blind River in 1956. In Tillsonburg, she was past president of the Catholic Women's League and of the Tillsonburg Duplicate Bridge Club and "contributed much of her considerable energy to various community organizations. She was a lively, friendly and outgoing person, whose enjoyment of singing, dancing, stories and fun went with her everywhere. Her love of people, especially of children and young people and animals was appreciated by all who knew her. Her secret acts of kindness were many. We love you, Mum."

GETTAS, George Peter
George Peter was born in Kitchener-Waterloo on June 27, 1913 and passed away peacefully on June 4, 2005 in London, Ontario. His early years were spent in Simcoe before attending London Central Collegiate Institute, and then the University of Western Ontario, graduating in 1938 from the Faculty of Medicine. He specialized as a surgeon, in Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat at Columbia University / St. Luke's, New York City, then served as Captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during the Second World War. Afterwards, he returned to London where he both was in private practice and instructed at the University of Western Ontario.
He is survived by his children, George and his wife, Marsha of Toronto; Philip of New York City; Diane HAGGIS of London and Gregg of New York City. Grandfather of Marisa and Griffin GETTAS of Toronto; Alissa and Katie HAGGIS of Los Angeles; Lauren HAGGIS of New York City. He leaves behind his beloved sister, Irene GETTAS of Antigonish, Nova Scotia; and his former wife, Theo GETTAS of London. The family would like to express their appreciation to Virginia FRANK and Terry COTTRILL, both of London, for their kind support for the past many years.
Peter loved sports and at 14 years of age, played on a men's baseball team while attending highschool. During the 1930's while playing basketball for Western in the inter-university league against McGill, Queens, and University of Toronto, he was the tallest player in the league. He was also interested in photography, fishing and a past member of Sunningdale Golf and Country Club, and the London Curling Club. A service will be held in Peter's honour, conducted by Father Elias at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 133 Southdale Road, West (3 lights east of Wonderland Road), on Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, tributes may be made to the University Hospital. The family thanks the doctors and nurses for their care and concern.

After a brief illness at her home on Monday, August 29, 2005, Nancy BIEKX- TALBOT was called home to be with her Lord in the arms of her proud and loving family at the age of 64. Survived by her loving husband, best friend and sparring partner Ray TALBOT. Loved absolutely equally by her children Brenda C. BIEKX- HAGGITH and her husband Darcy of LaSalle, Ontario and Ron BIEKX and his wife Chris of Saint Thomas, Ontario. Awesome step-mom to James TALBOT and his wife Sandra of Cambridge and Leanne TALBOT of Cambridge. Fantastic grandmother to Mathew and Stephanie. Predeceased by her beloved mother and father Verne and Molly SOPER, and her brother Little Lee. Survived by her sister Mary WARD and her husband Ken, her brothers Alan SOPER and his wife Diane, and Brian SOPER and his wife Linda. Nancy was a pillar of strength for her community, her family and her Friends. Thank-you Nancy for making the world a better place. The family will receive Friends and family at Ostrander's Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell St. Tillsonburg (842-5221) on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The memorial service for Nancy will commence at St. Luke's Anglican Church, Vienna, Ontario on Thursday, September 1, 2005 at 2: 00 p.m. Reverend David FULLER officiating.
