LYONS, Lorna Jean Elderkin
Passed away on December 21st as a result of an unfortunate accident. She was predeceased by her parents Dr. and Mrs. O.O. LYONS and siblings Ormond, Joan, Nancy Lou, and Virginia. Jean will be lovingly remembered by a host of Friends, especially Susan and Robert LIM, Annette and Michael ALTMAN, May and Chang LIM, and Angela BARBOUR and her family. Jean is survived and much missed by cousins Myrleen ANDERSON, Sinclair and Rachael HEALY; sister-in-law Hazel LYONS, nieces Anne SEAL, Barbara HUDSON, Diana SPECHT, and nephew Richard LYONS in California; brother-in-law Richard BROADBENT and niece Lucy BROADBENT in New Zealand. She will be especially and lovingly remembered by her many students, past and present.
Jean LYONS was born in 1921 in Vancouver, grew up in Powell River and received her A.T.C.M., L.R.S.M. in Toronto, where she studied with Healey WILLAN, Sir Ernest MacMILLAN and Alberto GUERRERO. Miss LYONS established the Jean Lyons School of Music in Vancouver in 1963, which now has a faculty of 14 teachers and 300 students. Her graduate students have achieved success in Canada and abroad, including Alexina Louie, a foremost Canadian composer, who was the composer-in-residence at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. Miss LYONS has published eight books on Rudiments, Harmony, History and Analysis of Music. Her impressive biography appears in the International Who's Who in Music.

A gentle giant has been taken too soon! Rick died suddenly, yet peacefully, in Toronto, Wednesday, February 16, 2005, at the age of 46. A beloved nephew of Herb, and Jacquline; dear cousin of Jodi-Lyn and Jeff GOUGEON. He was a special uncle to Kyle, Zachary, and Rebecca GUERRERO. Rick will be sadly missed by many Friends, and especially remembered by Lino and Tracey GUERRERO, Chris SIMMS, and special friend Carolyn of Grimsby. Cherished, and devoted godfather to Rebecca GUERRERO, and David SIMMS. Rick was also a longtime, loyal employee of P.G.M. Caulking Company. A celebration of his life will take place, Sunday, March 6th, at 1 p.m., at the Jerrett Funeral Home, 660 Kennedy Road, south of Eglinton, in Scarborough. Devoted grandfather to Christopher (Robyn GUEST), Peter, Paule, Nicholas, Jennifer and Andrea. Great-grandpa to Devyn and Quinnlan. Dr. SWAIL retired as a researcher at the National Research Council in 1985 after 38 years. During his tenure at National Research Council he developed many aids for the visually impaired. He spent years assisting the Canadian National Institute for the Blind in the delivery of aids for the handicapped. Chambers, partner in the firm of Jolliff Lewis and Osler, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, September Beloved▼ husband of Betty GUEST, much loved father of Ann (Samuel MALCOLMSON,) the late Janet, (George McDONALD) and Hugh (Ann.) He was the beloved Granddad of Sheila, Eric (Allison) and Claire MALCOLMSON, Lisa (Peter STEVENS), and Morgan McDONALD, and Andrew (Amy,) Kim (Aaron,) and Megan OSLER. He was just getting to know his three great-grandchildren, Breanna and Rachel MALCOLMSON and Graeme John STEVENS.
Born in Winnipeg in 1915, son of Colonel Hugh OSLER and Kathleen HARTY. He leaves his brothers Gordon (Nancy RILEY) and Alan. Pre-deceased by brothers Bill, Hugh, John and E.B. John was educated at Appleby College, Trinity College University of Toronto, and Osgood Law School. Private Family service.

Died in her sleep after a brief illness in her 95th year. Valerie GUEST (née JONES) was devoted to her family. She was the much loved wife of the late David G. GUEST, mother of Christopher, Gillian (Stuart MARWICK) and John (Helen,) and grandmother of Jennifer and Michael GUEST and Robin MARWICK. She▲▼ was very close to her late siblings Barbara ELDRIDGE of New York, Marjorie BRUCE of Montreal and Ralph JONES of Ottawa and their families. She was also very close to her husband's extended family, particularly through the many summers spent at DeGrassi Point on Lake Simcoe. She leaves three dear sisters-in-law: Elizabeth OSLER, Katherine STEVENS and Andrea JONES. Through her life, Valerie actively contributed to many charitable and artistic causes in Toronto. In her early years, she was a champion figure skater and later choreographed ice carnivals for the Toronto Skating Club. Until age 82 she was an active tennis player at the Badminton and Racquet Club. She was also for 67 years a member of the Women's Musical Club of Toronto. A celebration of Valerie's life will be held at The Badminton and Racquet Club on Monday, November 14, at 3: 00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations would be much appreciated. Community Living Brant and The Children's Aid Foundation (The Janet McDonald Scholarship) were close to Valerie's heart.

It is with great sadness that Eileen's family announce her peaceful passing on Wednesday, July 20th, 2005 at the Ajax-Pickering Health Centre, at the age of 85. Dearest mother of Carol GUEST (Barry) and Shirley REID (David.) She will be missed by her grandchildren Chris, Randy, Lesley and Brad, and her great-grandchildren Daisy, Cailie and Tyler. Predeceased by her brother Reg and sister Olive. At Eileen's request there will be no funeral. Arrangements entrusted to the "Scarborough Chapel" of McDougall and Brown, 416-267-4656.
