Mr. Yameen (Ben) KHAN passed away peacefully at the Milton General Hospital on Sunday, October 23, 2005. He is mourned by his children Farida (Jacques PLANTE,) of St. Dorothee, Quebec, Ishra, of Limehouse, Ontario, Shariffa (Horst GROSSER,) of Mississauga, Ontario, Haniffa (Jim GALLANT) of Limehouse, Ontario, Yameena, Abdel and Ayesha, of Aurora, Ontario. He is also survived by his ex-wife Yasmeen YVETTE of Aurora. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Olivier, Marc-Andre, Benjamin, Samantha, Melanie and Marcus, as well as his feline friend Lulu. Ben lived life to the fullest, with no regrets. Coming to Canada with his wife and seven children in 1970, from Trinidad. He worked various jobs in Toronto, always finding time to entertain people with his beautiful, powerful Baritone voice. He enjoyed 24 years working at the Athletic Field House at Glendon Campus, and made many laugh. In his later years, you could always find him tending to his tomatoes, or telling a tale of his many adventures in the West Indies, and England. She will be deeply missed by her sister Andrea and brothers Michael and Jeremy. Much loved granddaughter of June ENGEL and the late Daisy and Maury KESSLER. Greatniece of James and Joyce GUTMANN, of Phyllis and Ken ANDREWS, John and Pat DYKE, Colin and Rita DYKE. Anna will be sadly missed by her cousins Kathryn and Earl and Michelle, Ayella, Zahara, Keely GROSSMAN, Gail and Bob and Chris, Olivia DUCK, Jeff DYKE, and Judy, Colin, Susan (DYKE) and Seven, Cedar and Dylan WELSH, and her extended family in Europe. A private funeral was held in Toronto. Anna finished high school in Toronto, graduated with Honours in Philosophy from University of Toronto, went on to post graduate studies on a scholarship at Cornell University, and was currently finishing her Ph.D. in Philosophy at University of Alberta in Edmonton. She will be granted a posthumous Doctorate this year from the University of Alberta. Anna was a highly sensitive, gifted, courageous and caring person. She loved dogs, horses and hockey. Anna will be remembered with great affection by her many Friends and colleagues around the world. Peacefully, on August 15, 2005, our wonderful mother passed away at the age of 82. Tula was predeceased in January by her beloved husband, Samuel. She is deeply loved and sadly missed by her children, Anita DAHLIN of Brechin, Ontario, Michael LEVINE and his wife Rosie of Toronto, and by her grandchildren, Corinna DAHLIN of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and Matt LEVINE of Chicago, Illinois
Tula was the second daughter of George MARLIN, an immigrant from Pirgos, Greece and Nora BONANG, an Acadian from Chezzetcook, Nova Scotia. Tula grew up in Montreal and Ottawa, moving to Toronto upon her marriage to Sam, a loving partnership of 59 years. Our mother created a happy, vibrant and supportive home for her family, welcoming Friends, Dad's colleagues and extended family with warm hospitality.
Tula is dearly loved and missed by her brothers, Lew (Margaret) and George (Josie) MARLIN of Hamilton, her sister Toni SAUVE (Leo) of Ottawa, her brother-in-law Gerry BARNABY and their families. She was predeceased by her sisters Athena GRIFFIN of Vancouver and Jacqueline BARNABY of Ottawa. Tula is remembered with great affection by her sister-in-law, Laura EDELL of Syracuse, New York and her family, Sam's cousins in Toronto and California, dear friend Marilyn MEYER of Toronto and many Friends and neighbours.
In accordance with her wishes, Tula was privately cremated. Politician born in Toronto in 1911.
He first entered politics in 1951, winning a seat in the Ontario Legislature by a slim margin. Four years later, he defeated Communist incumbent Joseph SALSBERG in the St. Andrew riding, which he represented for 20 years until his retirement in 1975. As the first Jewish Conservative cabinet minister in Ontario, Mr. GROSSMAN held a number of portfolios, including trade, housing and revenue, under premiers Leslie FROST, John ROBARTS and William DAVIS. He was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Ottawa for his work as the minister of what is now called Correctional Services, but fought his greatest battle against his own government by vigorously resisting the Spadina expressway. The highway was slated to run through his riding and he fought hard against it. He was the father of Larry GROSSMAN, leader of the Ontario Tories from 1985 to 1987.

December 21, 2005 in his 87th year, after dealing with cancer with his usual strength and stubbornness, Laurie passed away peacefully at Scarborough Grace Hospital. Predeceased by his wife Audrey and brothers Aldwyn and David. An avid sportsman since his youth, Laurie was a winning school, club and provincial miler. He participated in football, hockey, golf and until recently, baseball and curling. At the age of 60 he learned to windsurf and at 80 he joined the computer generation. At 85 he was Toronto's oldest first baseman and still winning bonspiels. Laurie enjoyed his long and successful career and many Friends at Canada Metal Co. The last few years he took great pleasure in being one of a group of veterans who listened to young readers. Laurie will be missed by daughters Lynda and husband Wayne, Rene and husband Ted, grandchildren Terri (Kerry), Jacqui (Rick), Jordin and Lindsay (Adam) and great-grandchildren Tom, Chris, Max and Sabrina. His passing is a great loss to dear friend Pearl. On December 21, 2005, in his 87th year, after dealing with cancer with his usual strength and stubbornness, Laurie passed away peacefully at Scarborough Grace Hospital. Predeceased by his wife Audrey, and brothers Aldwyn and David. An avid sportsman since his youth, Laurie was a winning school, club and provincial miler. He participated in football, hockey, golf and until recently, baseball and curling. At age 60 he learned to windsurf and at 80 he joined the computer generation. At 85 he was Toronto's oldest first baseman and still winning bonspiels. Laurie enjoyed his long and successful career and many Friends at Canada Metal Co. The last few years he took great pleasure in being one of a group of veterans who listened to young readers. Laurie will be missed by daughters Lynda and husband Wayne, Rene and husband Ted, grandchildren Terri (Kerry), Jacqui (Rick), Jordin and Lindsay (Adam) and great grandchildren Tom, Chris, Max and Sabrina. His passing is a great loss to dear friend Pearl. Our family thanks Friends, Courcelette School, Dr. PERL and Dr. SELBY at Sunnybrook and Dr. GROSSMAN and the nurses of 3B at Scarborough Grace for their care and concern. Visitation at Jerrett Funeral Home, 660 Kennedy Rd. Scarborough, Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service Wednesday 11 a.m. Interment Highland Memory Gardens. BERNARD, Edward George (October 6, 1939-December 26, 2005)
Passed away peacefully on December 26th, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer. Loving and caring husband of Lorraine. Fond brother-in-law of Paul PIKE and his wife Joan. Caring uncle to Ron (Lisa) PIKE, and Tricia (Al) ALDERSON. Great-uncle to Matthew, Kaitlyn, Jessica and Ben. Ed was a long-time educator with the East York Board of Education and a Financial Planner in retirement. Special thanks to the many family and Friends who gave their time, love and support. Thanks also to Doctors TEPLINSKY, GROSSMAN and TEPPERMAN, to the staff of Centenary Health Centre's Chemotherapy Clinic and to the Nursing Staff of 3B for their compassionate care.
