Suddenly and unexpectedly at Versa Care, St. Catharines on Friday, May 6, 2005. He is at peace with his beloved wife Dona (1998). Dearest father of Stevan and his wife Lynn. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Andrew and Stephanie. He will be greatly missed by his sister Donna (John) SWINTON and their children Mary Anne (Mac) BISHOP, Elizabeth (Lloyd) DE GROW and their son Johnathon, David (Laurie) SWINTON and their daughter Grace and brother-in-law of Robert (Wendy) JURY, Joanne (the late Jim) GORMLEY, and Sandra DARTE and their families. Laird will be sadly missed by his special friend Pat in North Carolina. He is predeceased by his sister Shirley Anne (1937) and sister-in-law Sharon (1985).
Laird should be remembered for his kind and caring service as a funeral director in both St. Catharines and in London, Ontario, and for his community involvement with the Lions Club, Royal Canadian Legion, Fort Erie Young Men's Christian Association, The Wheelmen Bicycle Club, the Historical Automobile Society of Canada and the Port Dalhousie Yacht Club. Cremation has taken place. Memorial visitation will be held at the Niagara St. Chapel of Butler Funeral Home, 424 Niagara Street, (south of Scott) on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2: 30 until Service time at 3: 30 p.m. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Alzheimers Society would be appreciated. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Angela Frances COOPER of London, on Friday, May 13, 2005, after a long illness which she faced with great courage, dignity and humour. She is survived by her mother Susan COOPER, her sister Susan Elizabeth, her brother Thomas COOPER and her niece Marika WOLFERT, her Oma and Opa Susan and Rudi HENNING, her great-grandmother Susan McNAUGHTON, her father Tom COOPER, her grandparents Jean HENRY, Robert and Marnie COOPER, her aunts and uncles Norman and Cindy HENNING, Jim and Maureen McNAUGHTON, Doug and Char GORRIE, Deb and Rick CARPENTER, Guenther and Ellen HENNING, as well as her cousins Jennifer, Tabbitha, Sabbrina and Marriah HENNING, Becky CARPENTER, Mikey, Taige, Julie, Graeme and Laura. Fred was a member of the Grey and Simcoe Foresters, the Governor General's Footguards and the Lord Strathcona's Horse Regiments and served in both World War 2 and the Korean War, rising to the rank of Major. Following his army career, Fred joined the staff of George Brown Community College in Toronto, and retired as Dean of the Graphic Arts Department. Following his retirement, Fred and Adele moved to St. Petersburg, Florida and subsequently to Kelowna, British Columbia. A Memorial Service will be held at the R.D. Peacefully on July 6, 2005 surrounded by his family at the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital, in his 71st year. Frank leaves behind his beloved wife Audrey and daughter Joanne of Uxbridge. He will be sadly missed by his daughter Linda (Craig WICKENS) and grand_son Carter of Newmarket. He will also be sadly missed by his son Colin (Paddy) and granddaughter Blythe of Toronto. Mr. GAMBLE served in the Canadian Navy from 1944-1946, in the Canadian Army from 1951-1954, and during the Korean Conflict with the Canadian Army. Mr. GAMBLE was a member of the Korean Veterans Association. Donations can be made to The American Cancer Society. Passed away peacefully at Sunnybrook and Women's College Health Sciences Centre on Friday, November 25, 2005 at the age of 64. Beloved son of Grace and the late Yoshinori. Much loved brother of Louise and her husband Robert HASHIMOTO, Lorraine GORYO, and the late Harvey GORYO. Cremation has taken place. A Service of Remembrance for family and Friends will be held at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W. at Windermere, east of the Jane subway on Wednesday, November 30, 2005 at 3 p.m. Private interment to be held at Park Lawn Cemetery, Toronto at a later date. With deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all. Anna passed away surrounded by her family in her home on March 19, 2005 at the age of 72. Born in Pisterzo, Italy, daughter of the late Michele and Angela CAPPADOCIA (née RICCI.) She was predeceased by her husband Peter and was a loving mother to Julius (Teresa), Paul (Linda), Victor (Rossana); devoted grandmother to Andrea (Marco), Anthony (Adele), Peter, Mark, Jonathan, Vanessa, Anna, Samantha, Christopher, Olivia, and Nicholas; and cherished sister to Santa and her late husband Fioro, and Aldino and his wife Graziella CAPPADOCIA. Anna will be remembered by all as a beautiful spirit who encompassed courage, fortitude and grace. Loved by all she will be sorely missed and forever in our hearts. MAHER, Edward Gerard " Gerry"
Retired Reinsurance Executive. Devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, beloved brother, uncle and friend, passed away suddenly November 26, 2005 at Lee Memorial Hospital, Fort Myers, Florida as a result of injuries sustained from a fall. Gerry was a model of faith, fortitude and love of family. He was a respected business executive, having graduated from Fordham in 1958, and worked for Guy Carpenter Reinsurance for over 35 years. In his later years, he was responsible for opening branches in many countries all over the world. Eighteen of his years with Guy Carpenter were spent in Toronto, Canada, where he raised his children. He forged many Friendships among his colleagues, here at home and internationally. Gerry was known to be a model of good stewardship in all aspects of his professional endeavours. When he retired, he offered his knowledge through volunteer efforts with Service Corps of Retired Executives, and parish finance administration for the parishes he attended. Gerry was a wondeful family man. He was born to John and Anne (DURCAN) MAHER, October 16, 1927, in the shadows of Mt. Nephin in Co. Mayo, Ireland. In his youth he participated in many athletic and scholastic adventures including boxing and drama. Gerry came to America in 1947, and worked for his Uncle Jack DURCAN while putting himself through college. He stayed very close to his 14 siblings in Ireland, England and New York. In 1952 he met the love of his life, Eileen STEEL, who survives him. They were married June 2, 1956. Together they raised seven children. Through perseverance and sacrifice, Gerry assured that each of his children could go to college. He often reminded his children of the value and importance of a liberal arts education. Gerry's greatest delight came from watching his grown children start their own families; he was very proud of his 19 grandchildren. He hoped to positively impact the next generation through family gatherings where many humorous stories were shared along with an appreciation of the family history and heritage. He was, above all else, a man of faith, devoted to daily reception of the Eucharist and recitation of the rosary. He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Cape Coral, Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Chatham, New Jersey, and St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Oakville, Ontario. He actively offered his time, talent and treasure to the church, especially through his volunteer work with the Corpus Christi Parish; as the mediator of the parish pastoral council at St. Andrew in Cape Coral; the St. Vincent de Paul Society, A.F.C.A.A.M. (African Caribbean American Ministry) and as a lector and Eucharistic Minister. He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. The best lessons of faith were taught by his lived example. In 2002, his son Brian died tragically, and this left a hole in Gerry's heart that never mended. We are comforted to know that father and son are now united in the presence of Christ, and that Gerry's heart no longer aches. We have lost our husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Our consolation is our faith in the day we will see him again, in his eternal happiness. In his 78 years Gerry touched the minds, hearts and souls of many. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Seamus MAHER of Manchester, England, and his son Brian MAHER of Charlotte, North Carolina. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Eileen; children Kevin (Lucy) MAHER of Chatham, New Jersey Phyllis (David J.) FLORIAN of Kalamazoo, Michigan; Diane (Philip) SARIKAS of Beaverton, Oregon; Clare (David) EMERY of Calgary, Canada; Carol (William) MURRAY of Chatham, New Jersey; Patrick (Kim) MAHER of Beaverton, Oregon; his daughter-in-law Barbara (Davren) MAHER; nineteen grandchildren; and thirteen of his siblings, Noreen GAVIN, Anthony MAHER, Kathleen MAHER, Muiradack MAHER, all of Ireland; Grace COCK, Julia GORZKIEWICZ of England; Anne DINNEGAN of Cape Coral; Patrick MAHER, John MAHER, Frank MAHER, Theresa COY
